  • In this video I restore an odd tool that is seldom seen. This would be a nice addition to your plane collection if you want one nobody else has! Definitely a conversation piece. It was made by the Plane Axe Corporation of Providence Rhode Island.

      Ive been missing this guy also I had feared something bad happened. I had searched for his channel from time to time and couldn't find it. It seemed like he deleted it. Today an old video showed up in recommended and I got very excited. Do you know if he removed his channel for a while or was I just to dumb to find it?

      Dripfree FPV I don’t think you’re too dumb the same thing g happed to me. This channel just showed up in my recommended videos a few days ago and it didn’t dawn on me who it was. I had subscribed to him before and had some of his videos saved to watch later and they disappeared. I thought he was back then realized it’s just old videos ???

      @@corydriver7634 Thats what I thought happened. Ive been going through some of his old videos a second time. The fact that the old videos showed back up gives me hope that he may be planning a return. I just hope everything is ok with him. I have a feeling he ran into some hard times and just had to bail on his channel for a bit. He seems like such a good man and I wish him well. Even if he cant return we are lucky to have his old videos back.

      Dripfree FPV I agree. What doesn’t make sense was he (or someone) took down his channel and his eBay account, everything was gone in the same day I guess. Two years ago when the YT channel went away I didn’t notice it until I realized he hadn’t posted in a while, then when I searched for it I couldn’t find it. At that point I did a few internet searches and found conversion threads on tool forums where a guy said he’d emailed him and was told he was ok and taking a break for a while. Two years was a long break so I kinda forgot about it and was shocked when the old videos reappeared. 🤞 fingers crossed.

    What a cool artifact. For roofing, the only possible use for the plane is easing the fit of a tight shingle, and it doesn't take a lot of time with a hatchet to master that task without the plane. Like a lot of inventions, it was a clever answer to a question that nobody was asking. The blade adjustment was impressively simple and effective though, and you don't really need a fancy lever cap for taking off skinny bits of cedar. Thanks for featuring such an oddball!

    • @cooncum1
      @cooncum1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OldWhitebelly It was probably more commonly used for cedar siding, it looks pretty awkward to use, it probably wasn't a very popular tool cause it would have to replace a block plane which was/is commonly used. It looks poorly designed too, like if the bevel was pointed down towards the handle it would likely be less awkward and easier to use. Cool tool though.

    Interesting combi-tool!
    Part of me wants to say that it would be better if the plane part was set up like a pull plane to keep the handle from knocking into the workpiece/shingle. Like you can hold onto the hammerhead and handle to pull while using the handle as a kind if rudder to steer it

    Honestly it looks like it could make a nice combination tool for reclaiming wood from junked furniture. The addition of the plane to the axe/hammer would save time in inspecting for solid wood vs manmade boards without digging too deep into the surface. Plus it looks like a lot less to have jangling about it in the box/belt.

    Nice to see you use your other tools. As for that funky thing, It looks crude/coarse, don't know I'd wanna use it as as a striking tool if I planned on planing, and the handle affixment is just odd. Thx for sharing even the weird odd things. (my opinion dont mean shit)

    Good find from the pile. It looks neat but you lost me halfway through. As someone who only values usable tools (collectibility means little to me), I lost interest when I saw lacquer go on the handle. You turned it into a blister-maker! My experience with wood handles tells me it needs an OIL or WAX finish. BLO, Danish, Tung, Beeswax or Paste wax, or a combination wax over oil. Lacquer or varnish are no-noes.
