I wonder if getting a couple of reverse threaded nuts the proper size from McMaster-Carr would be worth it? This way you could use a socket or even an impact wrench to get them out. Also I imagine some “gentle” heat wouldn’t hurt. Thanks for the informative video, I wished you’d come back and make more. Peace.

Now it's the good time to have type 17 steel knobs.

Can you use a frog from a Stanley no 4 type 11 on a Stanley no 6 type 11 plane as a replacement frog?

^They are different widths, so no. The 4 and 5 are interchangeable, though.

Great tutorial Keith, thanks. BTW, the best penetrating oil I ever found was called AeroKroil. I believe they still sell it.

Kroil, and PB blaster are two of my best colognes also. Yes, I agree, Kroil is the best.

Just a note NH planes has been in the hospital for a while. He is home now recovering. I dont know what the problem was but his wife told me he will be a while responding to people.

Nice simple common sense technique. Just have to have two nuts that fit the stud. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks, I recently chewed up a bolt trying to extract it.
Your modified floor plane got me thinking of other ways to "hot rod" good but not rare planes.
Ever thought of adding steel plates for added knot busting weight?
I have a plain jane no 7 that I am thinking about specializing in to a slab and workbench flattener. Like a beefed up scrub plane.

the most important is to know what direction to unscrew that .
i have 3 planes, where all of them have different thread pattern
1 have left hand threads for the know, and right hand threads for the casting
    2 all left hand thread
    3 all right hand thread
some newer planes also have torx or philips screwdriver slot on the dome end of the screw
then again, none of my planes is vintage stanley

I've had a couple of the screws come loose accidentally because the adjusting nut was stuck. I thought about using thread locker to keep them from loosening again.

do you know what the thread pitch is on that bolt i might be able to make some left hand thread nuts for you to have in your tool kit.

Major diameter is 0.281 - 24 TPI Left Hand Refer as 9/32-24 LH Old Whitworth thread. Let me know if you find a supplier for this one in the US. As to be on the shelf so the price is decent. I know a place where the can produce it, but for tap and die the cost is over $250.00 for the set. Of course if I order 5 pcs of each the price per unit is less (set up time). Good luck

9/32 -24 LH whitworth ill look in to it that's a ridiculous price . i sure i could single point it on the lathe but perhaps i should make a die then we can mass produce them our selves. hey on a side note im making reproduction depth stops for the stanley 78 would you be needing any heres a link to my video showing my pattern . i just got my samples in from the foundry so i will be showing them soon also th-cam.com/video/cX2IKPAKLYs/w-d-xo.html

If I mailed you a Bedrock 605 frog (with a broken lateral adjuster) for free would you teach us to repair lateral adjusters? [1] tightening existing ones (this gives me fits) and [2] repairing broken ones. Please! :)
