  • In the second installment of “NLU Special Projects,” Kevin Van Valkenburg takes us through a universal nightmare for any golfer: having a case of the shanks. He gets insights from pros like Tiger, Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler, as well as amateurs, coaches, and even a hypnotist, all in an effort to unravel one of golf’s most universally dreaded experiences.

KVV - you're the man. Enjoy everything you do on the pod and especially your writing. Thanks for this incredible episode and for mentioning Rum Pointe out near OCMD a while back, really enjoyed a fun 18 there recently.

Listening to this after one of the best rounds I’ve played in a long, long time. I am now terrified to play again. I might just retire now.

From now on I’ll be describing myself as “one of the not top amateurs in the game” to my friends and family

There is a fix to the shanks. Start trying to cut across it out to in and hit a cut/slice. Most of the time amateurs start trying to slow down and hit a draw. The issue with that is you start swinging in to out while closing the club face which leads to the hossel leading into the ball and producing shanks.

I totally typed this up before kvv went into how to normally fix it. I'll keep listening.

This is great. KVV has been a great presence on team NLU. He's what JImmy Roberts always tried to be only to be doomed to pretention, sickening deference, and country club schmaltz.

Also what Fore Play probably hoped DRap would be. But unlike that (failed, imo) experiment, KVV fits in perfectly with the vibe of the NLU pod.

KVV sucks. Soly carries this entire brand on his back. Cody is a cornball, Neil is a clown, Randy is woke and Dj giggles like a little girl

Surely the diversity is what gives the product balance and is grounded. Insights in all aspects of the game. I have my faves, but enjoy the conversation
