Dude's a stud, looks and sounds more like a D1 second baseman than golfer. Tobacco Road is a wild course, tons of sand and tiered greens. If you come thinking you'll hack your way through, you'll walk away with 100+. It rewards the prepared, disciplined golfer who has got their numbers dialed in and knows how to plan each hole back from the green.
@@christopherseymour5210I’ve played with erik. He is a easily a solid TRAVELLING 4 handicap the way he strikes all his shots. Travelling 4 handicap is like a home course 0-1 handicap.
I played it in 2019; such a difficult track. Those pine needle beds are something you pretty much never get to practice with if you aren't in North Carolina. I went out with a really conservative approach, sacrificed distance and hit almost every fairway which is huge on any course in Pinehurst or Southern Pines. Laid up a lot and didn't worry about greens in regulation. I set myself up for 30-50yd wedges into the greens, so I could stick 'em where they needed to be for a two putt and not be chasing all over. It wasn't sexy but for a mid-handicap hacker, it was a course management strategy that worked. Pine Needles is another course in that area that is awesome and not as expensive as #2, also designed by Donald Ross.
@@troyoobrien A "casual rules" 88 - didn't hit from terrible lies, a little relief allowed to keep it fun, and two mulligans if I recall correctly. If I was playing it strict USGA rules, would have probably been mid 90s. And we played from the whites which was just over 6000yd.

I was lucky enough to play Torrey South about 7 weeks before the last Open...They let you know the grounds crew are going to be busy, some areas roped off etc. It's part of the deal.

Number 8 was my only birdie all day. It was a par 5 that day. Approach shot right of green, putt to the flag from the bottom of the turtle shell for eagle, and the putt comes all the way back to my feet. Hit the putt just a tiny bit harder and drain it from 60 feet for a 4. It was fun playing No 2.
Videos like this are perfect. Showing what an above average golfer would do on these pro courses at their distance. Hope I get to be apart of one of these videos one day
That caddie was cool, the course fantastic, but the real MVPs were the squirrels. I get the ground crew had a job to do but yeesssh, was that some bs with the mowing and sprinklers at times.
What happened to this guy? I started watching youtube golf because of his content when he was a fun guy with a fun attitude, fun mismatched clubs, and fun clothes going to fun locations and not even keeping score. Now he's another mediocre golfer who takes himself way too seriously, is sponsored by arccos, and gets angry at the grounds crew and everyone else for disturbing his concentration as they are trying to prepare for the US Open. No wonder I haven't checked in on his content for about a year. I doubt I'll be back. Sad to see.
Ive been fortunate to play #2. Its freaking hard. The cameras don't capture how hard those greens are and the fear off tight lies of coming up short and the ball rolling back or hitting it too hard and rolling off the back. From those yardages hitting long irons and woods into those greens is a nightmare. If you play there, Id recommend moving up a tee box.
What is amazing to me is that a 4 handy cap (Erik) who hits the ball pure and long shoots 95 because this PGA US open tour level course is so difficult with lightning fast greens so how skilled these tour players are to shoot in the 60s , They just are from another planet , Thanks .
That was a tough one for our pal EAL. I know he prefers to sit these out a lot of the time, and I don't think this experience would change that. Would be great to have the breaking episode with the 3 or 4 varying handicaps, but I guess for some reason that couldn't be done this time. Keep grinding man, enjoy the process!😜
Great content .... I've played there and that course is so dam humbling . It test your patience and your ego...around the green my caddie kept just handing me my putter. He removed the temptation and I enjoyed the round far more than some of my more talented playing partners :)

And then you precede to sh$t the bed? I feel EAL forgot to have fun on this one and it really shows in post production.
To me it seems like they had planned to do the video, got the permission to play the course, but when they showed up to a closed course the maintenance staff became perturbed. Kinda loke he was trying to get loose and have a good time, but had to walk on eggshells, and deal with a course that was closed that day.
I kept hoping Eric would eventually learn to aim further left. Nah. Awesome course. Looks a lot like a Melbourne sand belt course, but with different trees. I can’t see the US Open winning score being more than 8 under.

You switched two weeks ago to a fade, aim at the left side of each fairway! And fade back in. First 3 holes your aiming down the middle fading outside the fairway!
Great video as always RGC!! I have to say though, I'm not a fan of Arccos' advertisement strategy though. It's little things, like showing that graphic with the ball flying in real time like it is able to track the ball (it's not) and intentionally being vague about the need of sensors for every club or a subscription in addition to the link. The strategy is hoping that people make a relatively small investment at first to then realize it is useless without investing more. Just not my style, that's all

Tough situation when the player goes more on feel/flow and the caddy is very precise and analytical. Makes it hard to gel and get in a groove.

The fox squirls are so bold & fearless...you can't leave any food out in a golf cart. They will climb in and carry it away when you hitting your shot.

You switched two weeks ago to a fade, aim at the left side of each fairway! And fade back in. First 3 holes your aiming down the middle fading outside the fairway!

Great video as always RGC!! I have to say though, I'm not a fan of Arccos' advertisement strategy though. It's little things, like showing that graphic with the ball flying in real time like it is able to track the ball (it's not) and intentionally being vague about the need of sensors for every club or a subscription in addition to the link. The strategy is hoping that people make a relatively small investment at first to then realize it is useless without investing more. Just not my style, that's all
