It's crazy how a talented producer with a home studio can smash the professionals to bits. Even though this is a demonstration, this sounds better than any metal recordings I've ever heard.
I can´t agree with you, because Line 6 HD Pro sounds like a sh*t against normal tube amps. I bought copy of marshall 2204 for $200, and difference is HUGE!
Wow! Jesus must be a metal hater. I think this was a good demonstration of the PODs ability to achieve a usable metal tone. Granted it isn't an AxeFX, but it doesn't cost a left testicle either.
@kaiowatribe One is a floor unit, the other is a rack unit with extra I/O options... The major components and firmware are the same so they will produce the same sounds.
Good question. If you purchase a DI box with a parallel output, meaning that it has 2 outputs of the same signal, you plug your guitar into the input, and plug the 1st output to your interface (to add post distortion and other effects later. Try out the TSE X40 with god's cab impulses it sounds awesome) then plug the 2nd output into the input of an amp so that you can record the amp and clean guitar at the same time in case you don't like your amp sound that was recorded.
@fearedse dude, stfu! there is no way anyone would be disapointed by meeting you, you are an amazing dude, helping all of us achive something greater! and to shred better!
Very nice job. Thanks for doing these demo's and sharing patches. You have a skill for getting great tones, and are a fine guitar player. This demo shows that the pod is certainly a capable unit for metal. I have the HD bean and so far have been satisfied.
From what I understand the Pro and 500 are pretty much equivalent. The only difference is that the you have more options on the Pro if you want to hook it up to a mixer or soundboard.
you can use any of the pods as a preamp live i'm not sure about the footswitches, but if you're worried about live playing just go with the HD500, it's a floorboard it's the exact same thing as the HD Pro with a few different input/output options
Awesome demo. I am thinking of picking one of these up. Everyone goes towards the newer toys but these are pretty cheap in the aftermarket and you can still get some amazing tones out of them.
@ouija93 cant tell if you're serious or not, but FYI everyone in periphery is self taught, djent is a 4 note powerchord which they occasionally use and they are NOT overrated
who would complain about this tone??? its seriously one of the best patches ive ever heard....in fact i downloaded it and made a fackin heavy song with it :)
Just ordered the Pod HD Pro and should get it tomorrow. Any pointers on set up. It will go directly into a Mac and studio monitors, at least that is the plan. Could use as many helpful hints as possible, I have the attention span of a gnat!
Great video! Great playing, great sound, great comedy. I'd like to hear what you can do with a POD HD working together with Line 6's new DT25 tube amp to see how much difference the tubes make.
Hah! Ola, you're high up on my top 5 TH-cam channels. PS, this song is great, man! It's also one of the best tones I've heard from the POD HD. Good job on that, for sure!
The Bean is strictly for recording. I believe you need a computer to use it. The Pro is meant to be able to do that but also has live capabilities. You can run it into a mixer or a power amplifier.
you hear the pod as if it was used in a professional recording. all guitars you hear are recorded with the pod. and also check the pod vs axe fx vid in the video responses for raw tracks with both units.
I'm kind of in the same boat right now. I am waiting to see if the POD HD tones will come to podfarm. If they do I will buy pod farm 2 and stick with my old USB interface. If not, I will get one of these beasts. Another thing to consider is how good your computer is. If you want to record on a crappy laptop, getting the POD HD hardware would take a lot of strain off your computer.
@fearedse If like my unfortunate self, you are using low output pickups, drop the threshhold on the noisegate to about 55%, add a graphic EQ, cut the bass to taste (0.5 -1.0 db) and boost the 1.1 Khz by 1.0 and the 2.2 Khz 0.5. I prefer a little more gain on the amp but not much more. POD HD does not like 100%. For anything other than thick Djenting/chugging the gate needs to be changed. That wasn't at Ola, just for anyone who had the same issues I had.
I'll go ahead and recommend the Line 6 POD Studio series (formerly Toneport). Had an UX1 for a few years and it pretty much kickstarted my mixing/audio interest. I still use it. Can record bass, guitar, mic, whatever! And if you can't work it you need to get help haha.
nope, for recording or use over a PA there's a direct out. you only need an amp if you want to run it over a regular passive guitar cab. active monitors, headphones, recording software and similar dont need a poweramp.
I do a LOT of producing man but hate the processing strain with using pod farm platinum. This unit looks FANTASTIC and an amazing alternative to the axe fx. Opinion? Should I pick this up? I produce metal metalcore etc. What do you think>
Ola, you should do a video where you run this POD into poweramp or through some amps powersection. it would be really cool to see how the POD would act in a live situation.
@gianniswildchild dude periphery has a super dry guitar sound, what maybe makes it wet for you is that misha uses quite a lot bass in his mix which is good , because bass is really important and a lot of times people don't seem to notice. but back on track with the guitar sound. I believe periphery uses the Diezel VH4 sim on the axe fx and the pod only has an Engl, Mesa Recti and the Bogner Überschall for metal sounds and none of these really sound like a Diezel, the Engl might be the closest
@Nihil1ty Unfortunately, the HD patches are incompatible with XT or X3 units. Line 6 completely redesigned the modeling processes and programs they use within the HD units, which won't work with their older technologies. Sorry bud. :/
i think you could if the PA system is connected to a preamp, for example to a mixtable with preamps n stuff, the thing is you need something to supply the power feeding the signal, i havent used pods but i dont think they have a preamp
I had one of these and the direct recordings sound COMPLETELY different than the actual going through an amp. I couldn't achieve a high gain setting with it. Sold it, got me a REAL triple rectifier.
Great Composition man, but i would have really loved to hear MORE of those beautiful solo ideas. A longer solo perhaps. Also a great example of the Line 6 HD Pro. I am actually thinking about getting a HD500, hopefully i could bust out some amazing tone like you did in this video with a HD500
To everyone who thinks the patch sounds weak just adjust the in gain. Pickups, guitar, strings, picks will also make a huge difference... Thanks!
7 years later...this unit still sounds badass!! \m/
@Sam Gowman for sure
eleven f**in years later, this baby still sounds badass! \m/
This just proves that if you know what you're doing you can EASILY get a good tone out of the POD.
Bought one a few months ago and I love it
@TheDemeaning total win, thanks for supporting!
Goddammit your elbow is pointy!
@yuvalshnik this is through the USB connection!
It's crazy how a talented producer with a home studio can smash the professionals to bits. Even though this is a demonstration, this sounds better than any metal recordings I've ever heard.
@Umaiketsu apparently you can just rename the file extension of the patch and it will work with the HD500
I like how Eduard Khil is on the monitor. Trolololo on man
@Dimitribujiashvili it's a great unit so yes! :)
For the price, it's hard to beat the HD Pro
I can´t agree with you, because Line 6 HD Pro sounds like a sh*t against normal tube amps. I bought copy of marshall 2204 for $200, and difference is HUGE!
xxMARSHALLOWsxx -videos too much hate
xxMARSHALLOWsxx -videos $200... yeah right
Yeah I owned this and could never get it to sound decent at all. I think it was broken when it arrived brand new in the box hahaha
@yuvalshnik No post processing... what you hear is the patch and nothing else...
Didn't know the trololol guy liked metal until I saw this video xD
What is this "trololol" thing I keep hearing about in the comments? I can't seem to find what it is.
I think they're referring to the guy he's watching on his laptop.
@TheDemeaning haven't tried it, that is definitely something to consider for live use.
Watching the troll song....
Honestly, this is the BEST amp/gear channel in the world... Helped me Out SO much!
Wow! Jesus must be a metal hater. I think this was a good demonstration of the PODs ability to achieve a usable metal tone. Granted it isn't an AxeFX, but it doesn't cost a left testicle either.
Spot on. I would give my left testi for an Axe fx 2, no hesitation.
@JuzJok it says in the description ;)
can i use the patch in a line6 hd500?
Yes, just be sure to rename it to .h5e
jmeezle diablos, funciono, grax bro,
@Umaiketsu better check with Line 6 directly...
Anybody notice that he is watching the troll guy on the laptop
thats outstanding sherlock
I cant see it where?
@kaiowatribe One is a floor unit, the other is a rack unit with extra I/O options... The major components and firmware are the same so they will produce the same sounds.
trolololololo
What is this "trololol" thing I keep hearing about in the comments? I can't seem to find what it is.
Got my HD Pro today. Ive been looking through videos to get an idea of some of the tones I can get, so excited right now!
Good question. If you purchase a DI box with a parallel output, meaning that it has 2 outputs of the same signal, you plug your guitar into the input, and plug the 1st output to your interface (to add post distortion and other effects later. @Uhmsters sorry for that, did you get it to work?
@Raksada yes. Like said below. It sounds fantastic. And when recorded, its sounds pretty great as well. Its very rich.
@fearedse dude, stfu! there is no way anyone would be disapointed by meeting you, you are an amazing dude, helping all of us achive something greater! and to shred better!
I saw your Strictly 7 Solar guitar in a magazine! HOW FAMOUS ARE YOU GETTING MAN?!!
Very nice job. Thanks for doing these demo's and sharing patches. You have a skill for getting great tones, and are a fine guitar player. This demo shows that the pod is certainly a capable unit for metal. I have the HD bean and so far have been satisfied.
@FRtoufu No, nobody noticed the trololo guy. I'm glad you pointed that out, or else everyone would have missed it.
I've watched this video like 20 times now, definitely getting this unit when summer comes around. Thanks again, Ola!
Just bought one of these! Thank you mate! This video was all I needed to feel confident picking one up.
@reticle36 so you bought one? ;)
trololo win. honestly this might be one of the best tones ive heard in your vids.
dude your probaly the only guy on youtube that got the POD HD to sound like that i mean probs to you it sounds fantastic...!!!
@anjoesatriani yes!
@RobbieReekes strange since it's a 3 year old song :D
Check the Framus Cobra video
This guitar quality is CRYSTAL CLEAR! Are you saying you used a Line 6 Pod HD Pro to record this????
From what I understand the Pro and 500 are pretty much equivalent. The only difference is that the you have more options on the Pro if you want to hook it up to a mixer or soundboard.
Ola, you and I used the same mouse pad. Everyone except me usually hates it. We are truly metal brothers.
you can use any of the pods as a preamp live
i'm not sure about the footswitches, but if you're worried about live playing just go with the HD500, it's a floorboard
it's the exact same thing as the HD Pro with a few different input/output options
Best vid yet! Skyrim metal with sock cam?! Dude. Epic win.
Awesome demo. I am thinking of picking one of these up. Everyone goes towards the newer toys but these are pretty cheap in the aftermarket and you can still get some amazing tones out of them.
Love this unit! I'm definitely going to keep it for live gigs when I upgrade to the Fractal :)
@yoimer06 I highly doubt you'll be disappointed by this. It's a cheap man's Axe Fx and it does the its job very well.
i actually read the hi gain models of the hd declined in quality compared to the x3. but this sounds incredible.
@fazbotguitarguy I know ! OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH OH MY GOSH!!!!!
@ouija93 cant tell if you're serious or not, but FYI everyone in periphery is self taught, djent is a 4 note powerchord which they occasionally use and they are NOT overrated
@MrMisunderstandable hell yeah shafizzl that's why I wrote all these angry ass songs dawg!
who would complain about this tone??? its seriously one of the best patches ive ever heard....in fact i downloaded it and made a fackin heavy song with it :)
@Uhmsters right click then save!
Just ordered the Pod HD Pro and should get it tomorrow. Any pointers on set up. It will go directly into a Mac and studio monitors, at least that is the plan. Could use as many helpful hints as possible, I have the attention span of a gnat!

The Bean is strictly for recording. I believe you need a computer to use it. The Pro is meant to be able to do that but also has live capabilities. You can run it into a mixer or a power amplifier.
The HD pro is for a rack. The HD500 is for the floor. They have the exact same amp models and effects as far as i know.
@Eleutherarch starting to!
you hear the pod as if it was used in a professional recording. all guitars you hear are recorded with the pod. and also check the pod vs axe fx vid in the video responses for raw tracks with both units.

Thank you so much for the information. you helped me learn that a Pod HD is better than a Pod HD
@fearedse If you ever try, please let us know! Awesome stuff you're doing man.
@TheMrShiNoDax No this is all Pod
best sound in a while :O and from the pod hd! you made me change my mind about the pod hd
Dude, that is hilarious seeing that guy start swaying his arms to the rhythm change at 0:51. It fits!
Dude, this is seriously beautiful. Thank you
nope, for recording or use over a PA there's a direct out. you only need an amp if you want to run it over a regular passive guitar cab. active monitors, headphones, recording software and similar dont need a poweramp.
Hahahah the videogame part hahahah!!! Ola is not only an excellent guitar player, amp tester, and audio engineer, he's a master of comedy!!
You can really use it for a number of things and in a variety of different settings, but it is most commonly used for recording, yes.
loved the reverse bend.. in the second measure of the solo. very original. nice man.
@unpacifiedResistance there is a bass guitar in the mix as well, you are hearing the guitar and bass together
@GuitarHeroGreece no, you could run it straight into PA system, or use a poweramp to power a cab with it
Way more than good enough for home studio sketches and comping
I do a LOT of producing man but hate the processing strain with using pod farm platinum. This unit looks FANTASTIC and an amazing alternative to the axe fx. Opinion? Should I pick this up? I produce metal metalcore etc. What do you think>
Of course man. The only real differences between the Pro and the HD500 are that the Pro has more Ins and Outs (I/Os) and it's rack mountable!
@fearedse The biggest different for my rig wasn't the Amp block settings but the Noise gate. It opens up instantly when off. (I use a rack noise gate)
Honestly they're almost the same. If you want to primarily record, then go for the Pod HD, if you are mostly playing live, I'd do the HD500.
@Umaiketsu you can drag the file straight into the HD500 edit app. Just set the input/output as needed
Awesome video once again Ola. How about doing a clean tone like your intro to this video on the POD HD? Thanks Erik
But really, this sounds waaaay better than your other POD HD videos. And I cant help but notice your settings are similar to chimpspanner's!!
Ola, you should do a video where you run this POD into poweramp or through some amps powersection. it would be really cool to see how the POD would act in a live situation.
@MrGautscho guitar/guitar
Love your studio setup and your playing dangerous. Also thanks for the studio tips the're much appreciated.
@FRtoufu after 2 hours of searching i finally found it, it was on the laptop screen! thanks so much for making that comment
@gianniswildchild dude periphery has a super dry guitar sound, what maybe makes it wet for you is that misha uses quite a lot bass in his mix which is good , because bass is really important and a lot of times people don't seem to notice.

Dude, not only was the music in this video amazing, but it was very well made! AND it had Skyrim! How much more can a person ask for!?
i think you could if the PA system is connected to a preamp, for example to a mixtable with preamps n stuff, the thing is you need something to supply the power feeding the signal, i havent used pods but i dont think they have a preamp
@xtreme8012
it's the same, just a little bit more options
@ChrisvonChamier I'm pretty sure it's a korg nanokontrol 2. Might have to double check though.
I had one of these and the direct recordings sound COMPLETELY different than the actual going through an amp. I couldn't achieve a high gain setting with it. Sold it, got me a REAL triple rectifier.
no post production stuff? this is pretty solid quality for just being the patch if so.
na defintely , recabbed and mixed
Great Composition man, but i would have really loved to hear MORE of those beautiful solo ideas. A longer solo perhaps. Also a great example of the Line 6 HD Pro. I am actually thinking about getting a HD500, hopefully i could bust out some amazing tone like you did in this video with a HD500
Is there any difference in sound between HD500 and HD PRO???...
Nice song!.... Greetings!
what a tone man!!!! i love it man!!! you viking beast looking slammer!!!
Your tone is amazing dude!
I believe you would still need a power amp to drive it. The Pod HD Pro plus a poweramp could go straight into a cabinet.
Dude. You make everything sound awesome.
