    This has been my favourite thing marvel has published in the last couple of years. It's incredibly well written, the art works perfectly with the writing, it's brilliant. Vision is my favourite character, always has been, and this did the character justice.

      Alpertron CP Yeah this Vision run is incredible. In awe of it every month.

    Was wondering how long until you did an episode on the Vision. It's definitely my favorite series right now. When I read issue #1, I was just completely blown away by how every little detail added so much to the overall themes.

      That first issue is just stunning, isn't it?

    The idea of Vision and Virginia trapped by the house raises the value of the ending of issue 10 (my favorite one).

    • @StripPanelNaked
      @StripPanelNaked  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes!
      I'm so intrigued to see how this thing ends, man.

      Just reread Omega Men trade yesterday, and really noticed the paneling in issue 10, particularly the duality between Kyle's actions/weaponry and the Omega Men's actions/Weaponry.
      That book has so much to analyze textually and artistically.

    This is the first time I have considered supporting a patreon site. It is actually competing with Rise of the Tomb Raider which is on sale.
    Also, I was thinking about why The Vision displays humanity so well. I think it is because the Visions are trying to imitate humanity. Which gives it that separation that makes it easier to see.
    Keep it up Strip Panel Naked. I will be sharing in my comic book FB group.

    I'm so glad you finally got to this series! I love this series mostly because of the brilliant (so brilliant) writing, and while I appreciate Walta's art and Bellaire's collaboration immensely (the muted palette she uses on this book is phenomenal) I never really give it much thought, so this was an excellent episode. I particularly liked your analysis of the two panels in the second issue, with Vision looking out, and Virginia looking in, something I would have completely missed otherwise.
    Which is all to say that one of the reasons I'm loving these essays you are doing is because they remind me that story in comics encompasses much more than just the words. It's ALL story. It's such an obvious thing but also so easy to forget. Glad this is around to remind me.

    • @ricktimus73
      @ricktimus73 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was very happy to hear that the book was going to be revisited in future episodes as well! If there's a book that deserves it, it's this one.

    • @StripPanelNaked

      On the flip side, if there's one thing I could be accused of not showcasing enough, it's the writers :P
      It's a collaborative medium though, and if we use a film analogy, the writer is the screenwriter (and editor, in a sense), and the artist is the director and cinematographer, the colourist the lighting and art direction, and letterist the sound person.
      Maybe that's a terrible analogy, but they're all working together to build it all. You've got to utilise all those creators!

    • @ricktimus73
      @ricktimus73 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That'd be a fair criticism of your work, thus far! But to be honest there are plenty of other people who focus mainly on the writing side. Myself included, obviously.
      It IS a collaborative medium, but I think we're so used to the auteur/sole creator narrative that we tend to focus on one aspect of things. (Wes Anderson isn't only what makes Wes Anderson movies great, etc.) It's why things like this are important!

  • @reedthesteed
    @reedthesteed 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fantastic, as always, Has! Fascinating how much depth King, Walta, and the rest of the team are able to pull out of a concept that can seem so simple on the surface. Can't get enough.

    4:46 I think there is also hopeful foreshadowing because the house is trashed and dark but the vision is brightly lit and may be the way out of their struggle.

    • @StripPanelNaked
      @StripPanelNaked  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For sure. I think he's brightly lit because he's trying to be more optimistic about everything.

    It always shocks me how much I miss reading these books, I guess it speaks to the talent of the team that i'm getting the context without realising the ways that they're putting the information in my brain. Great video as always Has!

    • @StripPanelNaked
      @StripPanelNaked  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The thing is, it's kind of good you're missing it! I was always taught with film, say, that the moment you go, "Wow, that's a beautiful shot" for example, they film is ruined, because you remember you're watching a film. It should all be subtle, so it re-enforces story without taking you out of it.

    Hey Has, I'd love for you to do an episode about how Alan Moore establishes the main themes of the whole chapter of a comic in the first page of multiple chapters of Swamp Thing (particularly issues 55, 56 and 41). I don't know if you take requests but those comics are very dear to me and I think they're important to study both in terms of narrative introduction and art.

    • @StripPanelNaked
      @StripPanelNaked  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do love Moore's Swamp Thing. That whole 'British Invasion' time was a really interesting place for comics.
      Requests I add to the ever-expanding list (that I tackle in no particular order!) - but I'm trying to do a 'classic' comic a month going forward :)

    Video suggestion: Kingdom Come and how Alex Ross's über detailed art not only foreshadows events in the background, but informs characters, and subtly helps to develop them. The Spectre is the best example imo

    • @StripPanelNaked
      @StripPanelNaked  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I was never the _biggest_ fan of Kingdom Come, but whenever I pick it up I get reminded of how utterly sublime Alex Ross is.
      I guess you've read Marvels? The thing that always struck me from that was how Spider-Man always looked like a kid wearing a costume. It just made everything feel so real, and grounded.

      The only spoiler is that Vision turns out to be gay in the last issue. Vision's repression of his homosexuality is the reason why he continually beats the living shit out of his wife and kids.

      Blocking a scene is just where you position actors in a scene, essentially.
