    Glad to see another video of yours. There's lot of comic channels around, but just a few of them actually talk about the craft and syntax of the medium. Thank you for your work.

      Thanks Charly! And thanks for sticking around in between the very long waits for the episodes 😅

    Thank you for this. Im obsessed with structure and just started my re-read of Saga and I think this will help nicely. Structure breakdowns always welcome

    This goddam book is both the reason why I want to write comics and the reason I feel like I'll never make it in the industry because its just too unbelievably good. Thanks for demistifying BKV's process a little 😅

    Love seeing some appreciation for the simple, solid storytelling in a popular book!

      Yes! Truly is just well balanced, solid yet brilliant work being done.

    This is pretty much the way John Byrne did his Fantastic Four run. Usually the open splash would feature brief narration or dialogue as the hook for the issue.

    • @StripPanelNaked
      @StripPanelNaked  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a really, really solid approach, especially if you know that splash is going to be on the right hand side of the comic when opened, too. Just a big, BLAM, and then we're into the comic. Love it.

      I think this is where the quality of writing comes into play. Just following these rules doesn’t mean you’ll write an engaging story, it just gives you the structure for a single issue format (and really, not even that, just some guidelines to what can work). But your emotional beats are what will keep someone reading, even within that structure.

    hope to see more new content. it would be amazing if you could break down some of the older generation of comics like Heavy Metal. a side series dedicated to it would be wonderful. those are the most experimental and unique comics ever put together.

    I’m new to this channel. Are there video essays on how to analyze and dissect comicbooks on your channel?

    • @seanosborn6365
      @seanosborn6365 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This channel doesn't have direct instructions on how to analyze comics, if that's what you're asking. But it has plenty of well-crafted video essays identifying various unique tricks of the medium, which can clue you in on what to look out for in your own comic book analyses. If you're interested in this stuff, I also highly recommend Scott McCloud's "Understanding Comics". I hope this helps!

      @@seanosborn6365 thanks man, I’ll check that book out

    • @StripPanelNaked
      @StripPanelNaked  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah as Sean said, nothing specifically about how to analyze and dissect comics, but I'd hope that in watching a few it'd help you look at comics in a different way yourself (or that's the aim, anyway!). I'd also recommend PanelxPanel magazine (panelxpanel.com) which I edit, as that has lots of analysis and in-depth interviews with creators about their work, too.

    • @gabrielidusogie9189
      @gabrielidusogie9189 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StripPanelNaked I went back and watched your moon knight vid essay about how Ellis uses panels and framing to direct action. I think if I study both how to analyze a comicbook and a film it might become easier. Idk it’s hard. I feel like I miss so much when I read a comic. Stuff everyone sees and it makes me wonder if I was paying attention

      Slowly carving out the time for more episodes-!!!! While putting out PanelxPanel mag (PanelxPanel.com) every month, too! But yes, work and life took over a little bit. Can’t promise new episodes will be on any strict schedule, but they are still coming.

    • @StripPanelNaked

      I don’t! But I’d definitely recommend finding a local comic store and ordering through them, might take a bit longer than online if they don’t have them immediately in stock but will help support their store!
