What is _your_ favorite benefit of minimalism?

the meaning of things I possess. I went into minimalism by accident. Had some bad years and needed to got rid of most of my stuff (and was almost not able to even get new stuff).
Which in the end improved my mental health by a lot. Although I was fine.
Now things are pretty good on my side and I still won't get more stuff which makes things I have even more quality. I added "repair instead of substitute things" to my minimalism concept and I'm pretty glad to that extension. It also gives you the functional understandings of things and devices you own. I know how my blender in the kitchen looks like from the inside and how it really works. It always gets into my mind while using it. Same as with the iron or my washing machine. And even better, I don't need to buy new stuff and can repair the most of it with a few bucks. It is very common that just a low cost part broke down the whole machine. And with low cost I mean below 1€ ^^. Change it with a new part and the machine is happy to work again. :)
Pro Tipp: Don't buy cheap devices since they aren't meant to be repaired and are literally waste of resources and money. Better buy the vacuum for 50 bucks more and have it 20 years instead of getting a cheap one every two years. ^^

@@BruceCarbonLakeriver I agree with buying quality, even if that means paying a premium. It's more cost-effective in the long-term and also prevents a lot of frustration!

Mental clarity. As someone who struggles with mental health, this is of utmost importance to me and the reason why I started! Even better, minimalism was the catalyst for streamlining my school life in addition to my personal life and physical space : D

*When you're reflecting on your life in old age, what do you hope to see?*
This hits extremely hard. Well done.

It's such a good way of gaining perspective in what matters, right?

Point 3 - mental clarity - is important to me: Visual clutter is unhelpful to this. Point 5 is indeed a fundamental point about not chasing the hedonic treadmill, but living with intention.

I feel like that the term minimalism is a funny name for “do not accumulate shite” 😅 It is easy to think that minimalism is about owing nothing.
I’m glad I found you, Peter! Love your content.

I agree, Arthur. How I understand it is that minimalism and slow living came up as a counter movements. As a reaction to the pendulum swinging too far to one side. For minimalism, that is (over-)consumerism. For slow living, that's doing everything at a fast pace.
These movements aim to brink back balance. It's important to understand this context. Otherwise, it's easy to misunderstand them and think that minimalism is about owning nothing and slow living about doing everything at a snail's pace.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the channel! 🙌🏻

@@IAmPeterCook - I couldn't agree more! Everything is about balance and finding our pace.
I was talking about slowing down to a friend the other day. We didn't speak about minimalism specifically, but he told me about his decision to slow down things in life; he used to own a café and work as a personal trainer on the side.
He mentioned feeling guilty for having so much "free" time. Now, however, he feels great! He started many good routines and felt the best he had ever felt!
