    Yes, the F100 is a great camera. I have 2, I also have the F5 and the F4 which is my favorite (+ about 20 more Nikon film cameras)

    Gonna shoot my first role of trix here soon with my F2. love the contrasty grain that feels like true classic black and white. Also great choice with Tame Impala 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻

    Great overview, you hit pretty much every point on the camera, especially the frustration with the plastic bits. I'm on my second F100 after the first one had the film latch break off, in addition to the infamous "err" issue popping up after every other photo. If this one breaks I'm saving up for an F5, but so far it's my preferred camera for shoots where I need to be a bit quicker than normal.

    I picked up a new, never used F100 about a year ago. It's an excellent and modern film SLR and very easy to customize for your shooting style. If you use older Nikon glass with manual focus there is a green light that goes on when you nail focus and arrows that even tell you which way to turn the focus barrel on the lens. The viewfinder is small compared to my Nikon F2AS but I love both of these cameras.

    I use the Energizer Lithium Batteries in my F5, to keep the weight down, it helps a lot! But yes the size and weight of the F100 compared to the F5 is a huge benefit for the F100

    Nice job Joe! I am looking forward for to adding a clean F100 to my bag to use my Nikon G glass. #subscribed

    thanks for the vid! the f100 (1999) came after the F5 (1996).

      Thanks for catching that slip of the tongue haha I meant to say "it came out three years later" not "three years older" after mentioning it was the "baby brother". Obviously the baby brother isn't the older model ...whoops!

    ... baby brother of the F6... not the battery soaking, ultra heavy F5. Own one since many years. Thanks for yr video. Own the grip too. Always use Lithium batteries: Sooooo much lighter 😂.
    Metering is perfect.
    Used it in bad weather in SE Asia with weather sealed lenses. Great cam.
    Autofocus points: You're absolute right! Who needs 60 autofokus points? NONE!

    It's a nice copy you have. I have both the F5 and f100. I prefer the f5 but the weight sometimes causes me to take one of the others. Looking forward to seeing your film comp.

      groovesme I agree, but my F5 keeps me safe as it can be used as a weapon😉

    Hello how are you? you look so different without the long hair lol but its good to switch things up sometimes. over the past few months Ive followed your channel I notice you use many different cameras and film and I just uploaded a video reviewing Ultrafine Xtreme BW film on my channel, its like the most inexpensive film out there, feel free to check it out if you havent heard of it before. by the way I noticed you dont need the wrist brace anymore, how did you hurt it?

    • @filmfocused9759
      @filmfocused9759  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awesome, I'll definitely check it out! I'm in the hunt for my "go to" B&W film for 35mm. I haven't shot Ultrafine Xtreme before, maybe I'll have to pick some up. My wrist is a long story haha but to keep it short, I have inflammation problems in my wrist stemming from an old injury. I had surgery in May, and its slowly getting better.

      Thanks man Im glad you didnt feel I was trolling your video, Ive been watching your work for a long time but havent commented before this. I started shooting film in the 80s then got into digital in 2007 and now I have less interest in digital for some reason. I wish there was a digital camera with the tactile heft and feel of a vintage cam with a convincing grain simulatuon built in but I guess thats too much to ask lol.

    My diopter broke too, but I had to stick something in there to keep the glass in place because it would move often when i'm looking through and warp my image.

    Do you only shoot with primes?
    I'm looking at getting rid of just about all of my lenses because they've more or less been abused over the years, and I was thinking of just going with prime lenses. If I were to do that, what focal lengths outside of the standard 50mm would you recommend I get? My current camera is a Sony A65, but I also have a Maxxum 70 that I've started using again since they announced that Ektachrome 100 was coming back.

    • @filmfocused9759
      @filmfocused9759  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, almost exclusively. If I'm shooting a wedding and need more versatility for the ease of shooting, I'll use my 24-70mm 2.8 & 70-200mm 2.8 on my D800's. Other than that I only shoot primes across all my film and digital cameras. The simplicity and image quality of fast primes tumps all benefits of using a zoom, in my opinion. My three favorite focal lengths are 35mm, 50mm, & 85mm. Some people enjoy a slightly tighter telephoto length like 105/135mm but if I were to only own three focal lengths, those would be the three.

    In a future vid could you elaborate on the VR lens limitations? Or other tech that may not work with F100?

      I recently got a F100 and I've no problem using any of my af-s vr lenses.

    Several items:
    This is NOT the "little brother" of the F5. First, it's not "3 years older" than the F5, it's 3 years newer: the F5 was released in 1996, this was released in 1999. This is actually the design base for the F6, released after the F100, and the best SLR ever made.
    As to the diopter comment, no there are NO parts that "tend to break over time," if the camera isn't abused. One of those supposed issues, the rewind fork, is fine if you don't try to slam it down.
    Really need to do more research before you present yourself as someone that knows the camera.
    ..Joe

    Hell fellows you keep buying the F100 and I will keep buying the F90s for peanuts, I paid £2.00 for a fully working F90 body last week.Not much on the F100 that the F90s doesn't have and the 4 AA last much,much longer . And remember folks the F100 will need the lens chip for it to use the Matrix metering system on manual lenses which when I found this out made buying one for me pointless. .......Still all great wonderful Nikon film cameras,

    The F100 does VR! So do the F5 and F6. Those are the only 3 Nikon film bodies which do VR.
