January '25, Mark Carney is the most qualified political candidate to come along in two generations. On fighting Trump's tariffs, managing and diversifying Canada's economy, fighting climate change and real life experience he eats Conservative leader Poilievre's breakfast, lunch and supper. Poilievre will capitulate to Trump early and currently delivers only rage sprinkled with slogans. We need an economist who's dealt with two international crises before at the helm. Go Mark go!

For anyone of Canadians who wish to see Mr. Carney to be the candidate representing Liberal Party in our upcoming election, please register to be a member of Liberal party. This will be my first time to join any party in Canada, but it’s special time we are living in.
Now that he announced his candidacy, we shall start seeing Pierre’s full smugness in display. There’s was an online debate between the two of them during the pandemic where P thought he was cute and not let Carney as the witness to even respond to his questions. If you think P is different and actually knows what he’s doing, well, he’s been in politics for 20 years and accomplished what?
You do realize that MPs are only given a short amount of time to question and receive answers? Pierre was asking straight forward yes or no questions, and Carney, as Liberals tend to do, continually proceeded to talk in circles to purposely runout the clock.
@ then ask simplistic questions like is 1 + 1 = 2, yes or no? Maybe then you’ll have enough time for questions. In a question and answer environment, more time should be given to the person being asked, same as when you’re in a job interview. Then make your conclusions after, or if he really talked in circles then say that in the end.

Great interview. It gives some good perspective. In Canada, we like to promote educated people internally. He's from Edmonton. He has a PHD in Economics. He has International Experience to base his actions off comparable economies of scale. He has relevant industry experience to ensure his actions fit effectively within the framework. He willingly stepped into public service. He seems like a good man.
You’re either a friend of Marks or a robot. Why the hell would you assume he’s a good man just because he was born a rich kid, got a PHD in economics and used it to wield political influence? Canada is in shambles in case you haven’t noticed, which you likely haven’t. You’ve lost the youth, every 17,18, 19 year old in my social circle intend to vote conservative 😊

When I read Mr. Carney's Values, I thought "This is the man we need in Canada to reorient our economic mishaps", and I gave the book for my students to read. I have been following Mr Carney in the news ever since then. His macro economics point of view (which includes the environmental stance) combined with the experience he has as governor of the Bank of Canada and of the Bank of England, makes him the perfect candidate not only to advice the Prime Minister but eventually to run for Prime Minister himself. Just now now . With the disenchantment of many Canadians about the Liberal Party, the moment is not propitious for Mr. Carney to run for number one. As a Political Scientist I would advice for Mr. Carney to participate as advisor but not to run for the Liberal leadership until the next general elections. All the best to him, anyway.
I thought the same thing. Very excited when I found out he moved back to Canada. I don't know if he can convince the Canadian people to stay with the Liberal party. Unfortunately ten years seems to be the max until the pendulum swings the other way for any one party. If he becomes the leader of the Liberals I hope he can stop the Conservatives or at least prevent them from becoming a majority.
@Diane8348I will join Liberal party to vote for the leadership race. If he win & represent Liberal party, I will donate to the campaign. Canada needs a steady & experienced leader, not a whinny baby. Mr. Carny will have my vote.
The wisest thought that is in everyone's minds today is to invest in different income flows that do not depend on the government, especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in gold, silver and digital currencies (BTC, ETH.... stock, silver and gold)
Individuals are still holding crypto coin and stocks? I didn’t know that , I guess a few know about integrating into the micro economy to help substitute FIAT or usdt for a more tangible exchange Experience, it more like capitalization with about 43.307% profits/ ROI weekly though.. ps.. >During the Second World War, there were roughly 840,000 aircraft built by all combatants. Of that total, the US manufactured 340,000 aircraft of all types. There is no way that such an astonishing achievement could be realized today. Manufacturing is now less than 18% of the total economy. The bulk of the economy is in the social services sector and the financial sector. >The proponents of tariffs are painting a bullseye on the wrong target. So, we might ask, what is the right target? Productivity per person is too low and this causes the ratio between debt and GDP to rise leading to more money being pumped into the system as debt. This in turn is the real source of inflation which really should be termed as devaluation of the dollar. This started when the then President Nixon severed (in August 1971) the link between gold and the dollar. Since then, the overall debt has climbed faster than the output of the economy. A dollar today is worth about three cents compared with a US dollar in 1971, a factor of thirty. Clearly, we trying to buy anything with a devalued dollar, so, it takes more of these devalued dollars to buy something, anything. >So, there are two routes to a healthy economy, one is to increase productivity to lower the ratio between debt and GDP while the other is to cut spending to achieve the same objective. The government now thinks that tariffs will accomplish correction. The real challenge will be to trim spending while at the same time increasing productivity. That will not be accomplished in four years; more likely, it will take forty years. It took forty years to create the problem in the first place. How anyone can expect to correct this in four years is not reasonable.
“On behalf of the Government of Canada I would like to offer my congratulations to Mark Carney on his appointment as Governor of the Bank of England. In this time of global economic uncertainty, Governor Carney has done an admirable job in fulfilling the Bank of Canada’s mandate and has been a valued partner as the Government has worked to steer Canada away from the worst impacts of the global economic recession. As a result, Canada remains an example to the world with its strong banks, effective regulatory environment and sound economic policy.”-Stephen Harper.
Well done David for challenging Mark on several different areas (particulalry around green energy) - makes for a really entertaining/informative interview
He has invested in oil pipelines in Brazil and the EU but will not back oil pipeline in Alberta, Oh yeah he should be Prime Minister, NOT in my lifetime. He has vested interest in only himself!!
Hell NO. I will take my cue from the people of the UK, who were extremely glad to see the end of Mr. Carney as head of the Bank of England. He can leave Canada alone and go play with his Davos friends elsewhere.
Brookfield, where Mark Carney serves as Chair of Brookfield Asset Management, plays a significant role in pipeline construction and oil-related activities. How does this align with Carney's enforcement of carbon taxes in Canada? It can certainly be seen as a double standard. He is smart, but his actions don't seem to be in Canada's favour.
Brookfield also has another ERF, they are an investment company, not an environmental agency. As a share holder of Brookfield, they have been performing very well.
@Interesting answer. Dances around what I said without refuting it. Interesting that you felt the need to pull the conservatives into it. Do you always play deflect and accuse?
All corruption involved people run away from our country, this isn’t main issue for us, how do this guy resolve our carbon tax problem and paid 1/3 of gas bill
The year is almost over and very glad about the decisions I have made so far. Investing in the market earlier this year regardless of the market conditions has saved my life. I made over 70k USD with a start of 25k in the last 7 months. I know it's nothing compared to what others make but I'm glad I'm changing my finances.
You're right, the best time to buy in the market is when there's fear. A huge part of my growth has also come during this bear market. This year alone, I have scaled from 180k to over 354k.
I diversify my portfolio into real estate crowdfunding, stocks, and cryptomarket. Although I'm able to achieve this with the guidance of *Growing with Rebecca Martin Watson*.
Yes! I found Growing with Rebecca Martin Watson on the CBNC market interview, looked her up and we began our awesome partnership. Her services are exceptional.
This conversation doesn’t work for current Canadian problems that how can this guy help us? Both country (Canada and England) was a economically problematic for last decade, so his performance is doubtful for Canadian people current situation and his advice did we pay more carbon tax now, HE ISN’T qualified to our P M
His resume is impressive. As a critical thinker, not so much. His brain seems to be a solid block of “conventional wisdom”. I don’t see much in the way of leadership skills here.
Trump will eat Canadas lunch if you elect that loser. I am a Yankee but want Canada to do well. I know how Trump works so if you elect that bum Canada is toast.

Mr. Carney declares in Europe that he is European and in Canada a Canadian but he's still clinging to an outdated WEF notion that a carbon tax will fix everything. Just ask England's PM what she thinks of him. She views him as the single reason England is doing so poorly econmically. Get lost Mark, go back to Europe.
Book smarts only too, idealist and out of touch with the common people and lacking empathy. Very bad for Canadian people to prosper as he is business and Globalist focused IMO. For anyone of Canadians who wish to see Mr. Carney to be the candidate representing Liberal Party in our upcoming election, please register to be a member of Liberal party. This will be my first time to join any party in Canada, but it’s special time we are living in.
No need to register. Once you’re 18 you’re automatically registered to vote, as long as the govt has your correct address.
@ The questions were simple.
This guy gets my vote the moment he walks in the room. We in Canada need him as one can need allergy medication.

He willingly stepped into public service. He seems like a good man.

No the Trump of Canada is Carney. I will never vote for him.

Why did you cut it out at the end?
