    Wow. Thank you so much for sharing your extensive research and experience. This is exactly what I was looking for lol, my first baby has been sitting for a few days waiting for me to varnish her but I was hesitant to proceed just yet because of the mixed differing reviews I have seen out there on how people have varnished!

    This video is golden information to us, thankyou for filtering out frustrations for us plus saving us money on trial and error of products and saving us from ruining dolls which we not only spent money on supplies for, but more importantly youve helped us not to muck up all the time and hard work we put into our doll. Years ago, i couldnt get matte varnish to cooperate and it would turn chalky white i even baked longer but still lookd crusty on doll i paniced and tried to magic eraser it off, And couldnt fix it so i gave the doll to a little girl rather than adopt out to an adult. Thankyou for this video. All of youre videos are appreciated, and i watch frequently your videos and lok forward on a daily basis to see your wip dolls. Thankyou for sharing. And btw your dolls are beautifully, realisticly done. P.s. those reading this comment: watch her video of scarlett sculpt by bonnie brown, where she replenishes dolls varnish as a re-do. Its helful in coordination to hi lite the skilled technique as mentioned in this video.

    Awesome video Emily, thank you so much....As a beginner reborner, I find it's very hard to find information on how to use these products. Very informative, precise, straight forward and easy to understand detailed video. Thank you so much for going over this and being so helpful, it was very generous of you.

    Wow thank you for this! Yes I also have had trouble with Thick Medium being a bit hard on the previously cured(?) paint, very confusing and frustrating! I so appreciate your suggestions and I'll put them to use immediately.

    I have been reborning for over 10 years. I was more with air dry paints until this year. I switched to heat set and I have been having issues with one of my kits. The head came out looking powdery. Glad I saw your video. Will give this a try.

    I’m a brand new beginner to reborning, and I can’t thank you enough for unselfishly sharing this information. Quick question... Have you ever tried mixing the Glaze medium with the Matte medium to create a dewy finish? I may have to experiment with that to see how it turns out.

    Thank you so much for this video! I've been having the same problems as you... Thick pulling out the paint, that powdery touch... Will try the matte straight out of the jar to see what happens.

    Thanks so much, probably saved lots of ladies wasting their money on stuff that doesn't work to well. Been reborning for yrs and never really found a good matt and sealer, will try this on next doll.

    Good morning🌹 how are you I just wanted to come on and thank you so much for the demonstration of the different varnish I was so frustrated using the other Varnish it left a smooth finishing but in some spots it took off some of the paint 😪 I was taking the paint off using the Mona Lisa thinner I truly thank you for this video I tried it on my Reborn last 🌃 night after watching your 🎥 video👏🏼👏🏼 I did the process leaving it on overnight with the satin varnish when I woke up I noticed it was chalky looking I was wondering did it suppose to look like that but I trust the process put it in the NEU Wave oven 😀👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 I am so happy😀 it turned out so beautiful💞💞 God bless you for sharing your demonstration it was needed👍🏼

    When I use the GHS permanent matte varnish I also experience lifting of paint that has been well cured. I would get color on my wedge when pouncing it on. I've heard a few other artists admit to having this, also. When I mix the matte varnish 50:50 with satin varnish, I see barely any paint lift off. Adding thinner or thinning medium to the varnishes weakens their bond, which can lead to easier cracking, shine coming through in thinner areas, and spots of chalkiness (all of which I've experienced on different dolls). They are intended to use straight out of the jar and can be mixed straight with other heat-set varnishes.

    The thick medium is paint without pigment so maybe that’s why it was problematic. Great informational video. 🙏

    Thanks for the informative video. I've had issues with varnish on almost every doll. In some cases I have applied an air dry sealer on top of the heat set varnish. Seems to be a quick fix to the shine issues that often arise after numerous clothing changes with the dolls. TY again. ☺️💗

      The brand is Folk Art and it's called Glass and Tile Medium. Not sure if it's an ideal solution but it definitely reduces and/or removes shine issues on my dolls that I change frequently. ☺️☺️

      @doeadeernursery5659  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome, thank you! I've heard from some people that it can flake off over time. Have you encountered that at all?

    • @WishesNWonder
      @WishesNWonder 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, so far it hasn't flaked off that I've noticed. But I think it's more of a "quick fix" thing, rather than a go-to method of sealing. However, it could potentially be more, with time and some further experimentation.

    Great video! Some time ago I found that the Satin straight out of the jar gave the results I was looking for. However, I've since purchased a smaller 1/2 ounce jar from a well known vendor, and I swear it is completely different. The baby turned out looking very shiny. I decided to try it on some test limbs thinking maybe it was the vinyl, but the results were the same. I was so disappointed thinking maybe the formula had changed or something. I decided to purchase a sealed jar of Satin from Genesis again...and it worked like a charm. I'm not sure what happened, but it makes me wonder... these varnishes are very similar looking to each other and can easily be mixed/matched without anyone noticing. I just know I will only be purchasing my varnishes sealed from now on :/

      Makes you wonder if some dealers are purposely thinning out the product for more yield.

    I used a matte varnish and it turned out sticky. It is something from Joannes fabrics It's an acrylic air dry and I painted it right onto clean vinyl before painting and it was sticky after two months and two rounds of baking

    Hi! I own a reborn doll that was painted with Genesis heat set paints. However, there was a layer of RebornFX Air Dry 2 in 1 sealer put on at the end. I don't like the shine that the skin has and was wondering if you think that it would work if I were to put a layer of the Genesis Satin Varnish on top of what is there to try and get a matte finish instead of the shine that is there?

    Hello
    I use Gensis Matte Varnisch. But I want to know what ist the difference between Thining medium and Thinner. And how to use it and how to use Thicking medium properly, If I use it it always looks somehow not neat. ANd If I use it on the hair painting to create structure no structure will come out, it seems it is to thick. I am in Germany and I do not find any good instruction for this.

    I had a doll made for me which I hated the rough matte finish. I am very sensitive to textures and it just wasn't my thing. Then I found satin finish which I loved but hated the shine to it. Now I know how to get a perfect medium.
