      Daddy Dank Thank you! Paint the tub up to the top layer of bulk substrate. So about 2 to 3 inches. It doesn’t have to be exact. The whole process is about 2 months. 1 month to fully colonize the spawn bag, 2 weeks to fully colonize the bulk substrate.. then two weeks of fruiting. 🍄

    If you really don't like side pins, painting the bottom of the tub will not prevent them. Side pins occur in painted-bottom tubs without _liners_ because the space between the colonized cake and the sides of the tub -- which develops as the cake shrinks a bit -- is a very good microenvironment for fruiting. It's not really not so much about light.
    But a reasonably thin liner (like some cheap black garbage bags -- not thick contractor bags), will adhere to the side of the cake as the cake shrinks -- and therefore prevent that pinning microclimate from forming.
    That polyfill stuff is so untidy. You can use micropore-type tape -- or better yet, you can buy pre-cut, circular adhesive micropore filters to neatly place over your holes.
    Additionally, the very popular dung-loving species you're probably considering growing doesn't really need to be cased. Although opinions differ on that a bit.
    Also, the holes in that tub could stand to be placed a little differently. Assume about 3" of substrate, side holes will be about 4 or 4.5" up. The holes on either end should be up higher than is depicted here.

    Great video but I would like to definitely let you know that the reason that side pins happen or because when the substrate colonizes it itself shrinks therefore creating microclimates that happen between the shrunken cake of mycelium and the walls of the tub so even though this happens will be small any light that hits the side of the tub and goes down will still fruit the bodies. A plastic liner will adhere to the side of the mycelium itself creating essentially a seal preventing a microclimate.

    • @JubeProductions
      @JubeProductions ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for this explanation. I've been doing research for a monotub grow and I understood that you need to prevent side pining, and I didn't know if I should use a liner or paint. To me, spray painting just seemed easier than making a liner, but you explained why a liner would be better. You saved me finding that out for myself.

    I have already spray painted the bottom 4 inches of my tub black and have a 3lb spawn bag. Should I use all of my spawn bag in one of my 66qt tubs? It's my first time, and I had to return 2 of the 3 spawn bags I inoculated due to holes in the plastic; after waiting two months I am nervous about putting all of my eggs in one "basket", especially after watching your video about making a liner. Also, how many days/weeks is my bulk substrate still sterile and usable? I put the lid on it 2-3 weeks ago when I made the substrate, but because I was going out of town for holiday I decided to wait before starting this process. The bucket has remained sealed the entire time. Thank you for your time, I love your videos!

      I use a 56qt. or so tub. 2lbs of spawn and 8lb of pasteurized Manure based substrate from Out-Grow. You need between 3-4 inches of spawn/ substrate after laying together. I find that closer to 4in is the best results. I’ve tried many different ratios and the best ones are the ones with 20% spawn grain and 80% pasteurized manure based substrate.

Put the bag on a pizza tray and into oven 205 degrees for 2 and half hours. When done let cool and drop this right into bottom of your tote and its already in its liner. Open oven bag pour in colonized grain mix it up trim liner to how u like and bam 💥. Then put tinfoil over top of substrat. In 10-15 days remove tinfoil and allow to fruit

      No, you don't need to keep it i the dark. I usually keep my house around 70-75F all year long. The tub will keep the correct temp and humidity all you need to do is fan out the Co2 at the bottom when you start to fruit. If it gets dry mist the sides. Don't mist directly. It will bruise the mycelium.

  • @Man-EatingMushroom

    Hey thank you much! One question I haven’t seen anyone else using that last “casting”? layer I think you called it...the layer of coco coir over the fully colonized bulk+already cased substrate.
    What’s the purpose aside from adding more humidity? Doesn’t it also then have to be colonized or the fruits push through? I feel like the fruits will only push through on the edges closest to air exchange OR does this help create the best microclimate across the entire surface?!
    I have 4 more days on two tubs before inducing fruiting so I’m really curious!

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The casing layer basically provides protection for the mycelium and added humidity. My last two tubs I did not add a casing layer and they are doing very well! If you are growing cubes I would recommend NOT using a casing layer. I am not sure what you are growing... But some mushrooms need a casing to grow.

  • @cezcast94
    @cezcast94 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a question. Is there a point in time where you can’t add a casing layer? Is the window for casing only after the tub has colonized? Or can you case down the line like after a 1st flush per say?

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there is time when you can add a casing when it is most beneficial. But could also add it at anytime and the mushrooms would possibly start to colonize it. I have been adding a casing when I first put them in.. So I mix the spawn an bulk together flatten it down and then add a half in later of bulk as the casing and go from there. I do not add a layer later on.

    Why do you add just a little more substrate on top? Everything is theoretically sterile except for the mycelium. Since that’s already colonized wouldn’t it best protect against whatever might float through those holes? Would it dry the mycelium out before it colonized to its fruiting if it wasn’t covered with something?

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, you don’t need to cover them with a casting layer. But you can. When you start to fruit just spray them down and expose tot he air and they will start to pin. I’m growing oysters right now and they need a casing layer but next go around with cubs I’m going to try no casing layer and see how it goes.

    Have you used uncle ben rice packs to spawn mycelium? I dont have a pressure cooker yet so I used a few of those to help stay sterile. It's been about 7 days since inoculation with spore syringe and its getting pretty fluffy. I need to know when to spawn to bulk and I hear people say it should be almost rock hard, but it's not even close to rock hard where it's almost solid mycelium. Any thoughts? Thanks for your videos!

      I have not used those before but yes it should be a pretty solid block where you need to work pretty hard to break it a part for the montoub process. If you send me a few pics on instagram I can take a look and let you know more information. Also it takes about 30 days to fully colonize a spawn bag depending on how big they are. Everything good. The only suggestion I'd make is not to paint the bottom. Instead, use black plastic liner in the tup at the same height of your paint. Cutting up a black plastic bag will do. I don't tape the bag to the inside of the tub because when the mycelium colonizes it sticks to the plastic, preventing less side pins.

      Air is a huge trigger. I do the same with a black trash bag. As the mycelium loses water throughout the flush it’ll stay clinged to the bag and prevent air getting down the sides
