    Hey Ashley, in the past you built and automated monotub. Do to still use it or did you scrap it? If you still use it have you noticed a difference between your automated monotub method vs the manual monotub?

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +35

      I did use it for awhile but ended up stopping it because of my time lapses. I find it easier to control the humidity by just spraying down the tub. But I haven’t done any comparisons to really know which it better.

      @@BoomerShroomer I've had mine going for a bit now and its a good idea but seems to be to better for a big operation when you have a lab and other mycology stuff to work on or if you're leaving home for a few days but I don't find it as fun. I also agree it's easier to control the humidity by keeping any eye on it and it's really fun to just give them the attention and learn without all the gadgets. Maybe it's just preference but after trying it out I prefer just keeping an eye on them instead of set it and forget it.

      you guys know that tons of oldhead growers prefer to let their flushes create a nice canopy? It seems like a newbie thing to worry about the freaking veils breaking all the time. It's not that big of a deal, certainly not enough to warrant the use of mirrors and whatever. The worst that happens is you get a slight mess on the sides of the tub maybe. I don't understand why I always see these comments about muh veils like it's anything other than a matter of preference.

    • @BoomerShroomer
      @BoomerShroomer  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@rustyshackleford3433 Ive just noticed that if it spores on new pins then they stop growing. Thats why I pick them before the veil breaks. Hopefully next go I can get better genetics and don't have to worry about this as much. Learning as I go.

    • @rustyshackleford3433
      @rustyshackleford3433 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@BoomerShroomer if you have pins growing right next to sporating mature fruits chances are those pins weren't going anywhere anyway. Aborts are to be expected in even the most perfect conditions and with the best genetics. The idea that spores cause the mycelium to revert back to a vegetative state is largely unfounded and in all the time I've grown I've never seen it happen. It doesn't even make sense from an evolutionary perspective. Why would any organism stop trying to reproduce? Relax, you're doing fine.

    • @carsonpluff1388

      @@rustyshackleford3433 Yea I have to agree, actually I know for a fact I've had new pins starting that got sporilated pretty heavily, AND I poured a couple water bottles over it, stuck the whole tub in the dark/cold shelves I have in the corner of my basement for 12-18 hours, poured the water off into a watering can to later be used in my gardens and the tote goes right back on the shelves in my veg room! Usually those ones will be the first to start back up (if they do, obviously all don't) after like 4-5 days (genetics depending) and the full flush comming on by like day 10 at the latest

    The corner on my second spawn bag is still going slow but still steady. The other bag that went into the tub was the one that initially was stalling and needed a second mix. It exploded with growth after that so I think I'll do two mixes going forward. When I put it in the tub I may have partaken in some medical treats and got paranoid about the field capacity but 2 days later its almost completely white on top and I can see tons of these little white crystals starting to poke upwards.
    Also side note on clean rooms, I have a trick I picked up from doing construction a long time ago. Take aspray bottle like the one you have and mist around the room top to bottom. The water helps knock down all the particles or hairs in the air. Then mist the floor and gently sweep it or swiffer it.

Instead of plucking why not use trimming scissors? Also, Awesome info about not letting the veil break and spores dropping, thus preventing pin growth!!!

    great vid. two things i would recommend though is waiting until completely dry before cutting stems. it will cause less bruising, also don't mist unless mycelium is completely dry on top... to much resting water on top can carry bacteria that can turn to trich real quick. The colonized substrate should hold plenty enough water throughout it for the initial first flush, so i wouldn't recommend until you are trying to get a second or third flush before you start misting (unless you live in a dry hot place and substrate gets extremely dry).

    • @bradleyd.thornton5963
      @bradleyd.thornton5963 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You are correct in what you're saying about misting, except that trychoderma is a mold, not bacteria. She should be more worried about perniciosa adding that much water, and fanning is just literally creating a vortex of all the potential contaminants floating about in the room.
      1.) Correct field capacity. 2.Perfect your GE for colonization and consolidation (plugs are fine, if you must. 3.) Dial in your optimum FAE for fruiting (density of polyfil less at the top) so as to maintain proper humidity and allowing CO2 to escape below.

      @@jimmypee8404 lol you didn't get what I said. You harvest by twist and pull method, to have very limited bruising. Then dry with the dirt that is still attached to mushroom at base of stem. Once dry then cut that part off. If you do that it really limits the bruising.

    Hi, Ashley! Question about when you harvest: If you accidentally get a lot of mycelium when you pull a mushroom out, can you separate it from the base/foot of the mushroom and put it back into the tub - maybe even in the hole it was pulled from?

      Not 100% true. They stop producing psilocybin once the veil pops, meaning as they growafter the veil breaks they ar less potent BY WEIGHT. They are actually the most potent pretty much as the veil pops. But, the difference in potency before and after the veil breaking is 100% un-noticeable.

    To reduce the CO2 very drastically, you can use an aquarium pump and an air stone. This is usually done by oxygenating the water in an aquarium so the fish can breathe.
    You can put this stone in bottles filled with water and thus clean the air of microbes and dust as they get stuck in the water. The outflowing air is free of microbes and very humid. This air is fed into the fruit box with a hose. The continuous moist and cleaned air flow blows the CO2 out completely.
    Um das CO2 sehr drastisch zu reduzieren, können Sie eine Aquarienpumpe und einen Luftstein verwenden. Dies geschieht normalerweise durch Sauerstoffanreicherung des Wassers in einen Aquarium, damit die Fische atmen können.
    Sie können diesen Stein in mit Wasser gefüllte Flaschen legen und so die Luft von Mikroben und Staub reinigen, da diese im Wasser stecken bleiben. Die ausströmende Luft ist frei von Mikroben und sehr feucht. Diese Luft wird mit einem Schlauch in die Fruchtbox geleitet. Der kontinuierliche feuchte und gereinigte Luftstrom bläst das CO2 vollständig heraus

I didn’t think it would be this cold this time of year where I live and I was very wrong and they are not growing as fast as they should. Thanks Ashley for the very informative, enlightening demonstration. You mushrooms look really good with nice yiels. Would u ever want to trade spore tips? all your knowledge is immensely appreciated as well as your simple to follow demonstrations, your channel has been my go to as this is my first grow. just finished fanning my mushrooms after I saw they began pinning and were ready for fae. when I opened the tub I noticed there was a lot of condensation on the lid. I carefully removed it and tapped the side of the lid on a towel to get as much off. is there risk of contamination at all if the droplets fall? I know you mentioned it's more sterile at this point and was thinking of wiping it down but wanted to be as cautious as possible.
