Any particular reason you didn't upgrade the guts and bearings while that far in? From what I've seen the seal leaks, let's trash in and ruins the bearings. I know you said you didn't see any foul play, just curious. My magnet is intermitten and I'm debating on doing the HD extreme rebuild while it's out
I deleted my original response on this, lol I’m an idiot I thought this was a comment on the gear reduction video. Now that’s it’s all said and done I do wish I would’ve swapped the bearings in the diff. You’re definitely right on that. It was a last minute project that I wasn’t expecting.
@@fbik2009 Same thing, just wasn't expecting the project and didn't really put enough thought into it. I think was getting some diff noise this last trip, so I'm regretting not putting more thought into it lol.
@Somewhat Haggard yea tackett can be rough. I've got mine torn apart right now doing front diff and low only reduction with other upgrades. Finished up the trans today. Hoping to have the diff done by the end of the week. Still waiting on the cover/magnet and rebuild kit
It’s odd that this is the only video on TH-cam with rs1 diff leaking. Mine is also leaking but there’s pretty much zero online about these diffs leaking like the old ones. Wondering what caused mine to leak.
Hmm yeah that is odd. I had a few people tell me that if the seal is leaking it’s because the bearing is bad. I never changed the bearing though and it still seems to be ok.
@@SomewhatHaggard ive always heard the same. I’ve checked my bearing and it’s good. Mine started leaking after a trip riding through a lot of water. Wondering if the sand might have chewed up the seal enough to cause a leak.
It is the tusk lift. It’s seems to be holding up fine. It’s a little slow lifting, but we both have crappy compressors. Not sure if it’s the lift or the compressor, guessing compressor.
Can you just replace the pinion seal without doing the rest of the rebuild?
I wasn’t able to find just the pinion seal for sale that wasn’t a package deal

Bearing heat, bent pinion, snap ring deflection.. and kinds of stuff
