Car shows are my favorite events to shoot. The people are so willing and often very happy to be included in the photos (I love the classic and antique autos as well.) A kind word to someone about their car or their style goes a very long way. On the street I'm far too uncomfortable to shoot random people but at events like car shows or historical reenactments people are there to be a part of the show and are far more willing to be engaged in conversations and photographs. We can always count on you to bring the good content to us.
Another joy to watch!!! As a Yank, I am always amazed how many US Cars are in Europe!!!
Not many mate😂 a specially when UK is not in Europe and to be honest it never really was😂 I never seen US car in my life.
Plenty here in Scandinavia, expc. in Sweden.
But also vice versa.
US collectors have bought a lot of fancy stuf.
@@oskarmieczkowski6023 Well, over here in the US, the UK and Ireland are considered Europe.
You don't see many American classic cars here Brine. Now and again you'll see one driving about. Most of them are tucked away waiting for the shows and then there appears to be loads!. I saw more as a kid in the 70s and 80s in London than I do now.
@@oskarmieczkowski6023the UK is in Europe(the continent) but it's not in the European union or I'm wrong?
Your videos are motivating me mate for over 3 years now 👍🏻
That's awesome!
Nice work as always. I really like Ortho and Pan, they have that classic 1940's look. It works well with the classic cars.
I'm surprised at how easy it was to get an American police car into the UK.
Although I'm sure that it's not cheap for any vehicle, by the time you add up the shipping, taxes, customs, etc.
I appreciate your work so much! The fact that you shoot the absolute underdogs like the chinnon is such a refreshing alternative to all other youtubers giving you instant GAS! Good photographs and work isn't about gear :) cheers from Berlin
Thankyou! I like shooting all my cameras.
Love the cars & images 👏👏👍
Cheers John!
I love it. I’ve been shooting car events for decades and only recently started focusing on the people and cool details on the vehicles
Me too!
Great job and wonderful music.
Thanks Rick
The E30 bmw picture is awesome 👍
I love your compositions well done!
Thank you very much!
Wow, this one was great fun, well done!
Thanks!
Great work Roger, that shot with the 3 series convertible and the couple sitting on the wall is just perfect!
I loved that one.
I might have said it on here before, but I didn't really "get" 28mm until I started using it to get close to stuff. For some reason I thought 28mm was for landscapes (you just end up with a picture full of sky), but getting a subject in up close, nice and big, with everything else forced "far away" into the background does help isolate the subject in a different way.
yes I love a 28mm when you're close up
Very great pictures, i love it !
Thankyou
Thanks Roger for sharing this video
Great stuff, Roger. I especially liked the shot of the Merc 280SL (9:39) where you could see people walking in the reflections on the car. The rebates also look really neat, perhaps you can tell us a little more about how you frame them so accurately and get the rebate exposure right when making prints.
Thanks. I just covered the rebate during the print exposure using the blades inside the carrier and then at the end covered the print area with card and exposed the rebate for a few seconds.
Brilliant Rog!
Thanks Tad
Great prints! I've been struggling with getting the rebate on prints to look good. Your prints with just the top bit makes it interesting without being distracting or making the image too small, so I'll have to give that a go
Great video once again 😊 I also really liked the “Learn English style” opening. That gave me a little chuckle.
Thanks! 😃
Here in the US, we call them "Fanny packs" but in the UK, the word "fanny" has an entirely different meaning.
I'm sure that has led to some comedy skit level of hilarity with American tourists.
Loved the video
Always a great vid.
Superb image set. Loved em. 😎📷👊👍
Cheers Steve
That sure looked like a lot of fun! I wanted to shoot a car show in the town about 20km away but being without a vehicle, and my ride cancelled, it dashed my hopes of getting a couple 'Roger Approved' shots. Hopefully there will be one more farmer's market day here on Saturday, and although it's only a half of a block in size it usually draws a decent small crowd. I'll bring out the M645 and a 35mm and look for compositions with the patrons milling about. Just for fun. And who knows, maybe I will get off my lazy ass this winter and get some decent snow scenes this year. (I usually do not like shooting in the cold, but this winter I'm gonna Man Up and get out there.) Give your lovely wife and daughter a big Minnesota hug for me! Once I have scanned in my negatives from shoots this year I'll email you a few for critique if you do not mind. And if you see one you really like I'll pop off a print for you! Did you use a carrier for 6x45 to get the rebate in there? Or did you just position the negative off center?
Good to see you again great video and photos.
Thank you Katharine
Good background music on this video
I have an original Fuji instax wide from when they first released it and they are great fun! A company called NONS make a Fuji instax back for the Hasselblad 500 series for around $279 !
I always like to take my pinhole cameras to car shows. The combination of a fine grain b&w film like Delta 100 with the extreme wide angle is perfect for cars. I like to get in close and exaggerate the wild chrome details on 60s cars.
Thanks for sharing! I have too in the past with crazy wide photos
Great video, fantastic shots, Love the cars, they look great in B&W. Do you use a filter on your setup??
Nice!
I have some harsh rules I've set for myself. If I am going to take pictures of people I want it head on. There's no way I dare that, so I use a Nikon F with waist level finder, zone focus and hope for the best. I try to look at my phone while snapping.
I don't allow design or architecture unless there is some accidental factor, but I think I might make an exception and hit a car fair with some PanF.
Been looking to pickup a couple of 24-28mm lens for my cameras. Especially for my Minoltas. We don't get many shows like that happening here, but I keep my ears to the ground for when they do turn up. When the next one turns up in town, I should have a good, fast 24-28mm lens in the bag!!😊
That was one of my first slr's back in 1991?, I think... Came with the Chinon motor drive and flash and cost me £25. Like you, I had great times with that camera, taking photos similar to what you did here too :)
Very nicely done
Thanks mate
Great video as always Roger. The Chinon C5 is a great value camera, and very capable. Chinon lenses are always worth a look. All those I've used have been knocking on the door of the equivalent Asahi Pentax lenses in terms of the image produced.
🤫BTW, parking suspension means that parking restrictions are lifted while the sign is in place.
Great video, i love street photography too but sometimes suffer from shyness. I see you have a copy of the 35mm handbook in the background, I've an original copy too!
It's a good read and reference.
Great vid!
Thanks Mark
Nice vid, great photos to. At 3.30 into it you've put photo up and there's a faint line or a lens flare running down the middle of it.
I wonder if that's the same one that he had trouble with in another video?
I'll have to see if I can find it.
Yes I had leaks on the first few frames. I don't know why Anthony. Maybe light got into the can as I was loading.
That was the Nikon FM3a camera I think.
Great fun. What photography, film Pbotography should be. I have had this idea of blurring peoples movement for a while. Perhaps next summer, Manchester summer that is Rog.
Nice to try different things Lensman. Cheers mate
Id love to buy one of those prints. Are they going on etsy?
I have to make more Nicholas. Soon they will be, thanks
Hi Roger another very interesting video. I did notice you used two pre-rolled films. Do you still use your bulk loader, I’ve almost given up as Fomapan bulk film always seems scratched to me. How do you find it? Regards Anthony
Yes they were rerolled from Ilford. I still use the Bulk loader, very carefully Especialy with Fomapan! That emulsion scratches so easily.
I would be worried about the horrendous CONTRAST on a day like that - I would try to use Fill-in Flash for many photos ! the pics with ONE or only TWO people in are the best as far as I think -
Thanks Pete.
Great video, I've recently bought a Canon EF I see people using red or other colour filters on, please could you tell me why they do this?
My go to are Yellow, Orange and Red. Adding a colour filter to your lens on black and white will have an effect on the colours in your scene. Usually a filter will lighten its own colour such as Red on a Tomato will make the Tomato look pale grey or almost white! But anything Blue it will render dark! Such as sky. So on landscapes the filters can add more contrast and separation of clouds and sky. Some shoot with a yellow all the time for a tad bit extra contrast.
I add... Yellow is weakest, orange in the middle and red is strong. (For sky)
Thank you @@ShootFilmLikeaBoss
Good morning, I have a question if there is a way to crop with cameras whose viewfinder is not connected to the lens, e.g. RICOH 35 ZF, to avoid parallax errors, there is no good information about it anywhere ..pozdrawiam z Polski Jarek
I have a lot of view cameras. I am not sure if there is a specific way to avoid parallax errors apart from getting used to the camera and composing.
Thank you, best regards :-) Jarek@@ShootFilmLikeaBoss
Did your shoot at box speed? All with orange filter?
I did.
The truck is an early 80s ford f150.
Do you scan and then print?
Often yes. Doesn't take me long using my DSLR to photograph the negatives. Handy for sharing.
In America 'fanny' is a polite word for bottom. Bum means tramp!
I am not too confident shooting people, but at events, there are often many people and many other than me with cameras. I feel you are not noticed as much.
Today I went to a half marathon run. I could take lots of photos without getting attention.
I’ve been a press photographer and a theatre photographer and I still don’t like photographing people, but maybe now it’s because I don’t have to give a damn.
Nice vid….Instax is not Polaroid and Polaroid is not instax. Either way i hope you shoot some black and white instant pictures soon.
Waiting for that comment ha ha. Whenever I see instant cameras like that to me it's a polaroid. Even my daughter corrected me on her Instax when she got it.
Don't tell me you're becoming a yank! It's a bum-bag not a fanny-pack......
Anyway, it was a great Automobile show with most VeHicles being on the sidewalk. LOL
