The Chromecast Ultra is the newest Chromecast device, and has a few new features that separates it from the regular Chromecast 2. Specifically, it supports 4K Ultra-HD resolution, as well as high dynamic range (HDR). Also, it has an ethernet port, so it can connect either wirelessly or wired, to be able to handle higher bandwidth content. But there's not much else, so unless you have a TV that can take advantage of these features, it would probably make sense to just get a regular Chromecast, which does all the same stuff, except at 1080p. You can still stream movies, TH-cam, and music to your TV from your phone or other devices.

the crhomecast 2 has a noticeable delay and frame drop when streaming desktop content, is the chromecast ultra does the same or actually gets better?
what about buffering speed between the two versions?
Ok, so these Chromecast things are only designed to work with certain apps. I can't, for example, connect my gaming laptop to my TV via Chromecast and then play NBA2K without using any HDMI cable. Or would that work?
Chromecast has been my favorite Google product since the first one. This one really hits a niche though.
And yes they discontinue when we love their products. Like RIP Chromecast Audio.

Hi ThioJoe please answer these questions :) I use Videostream to chromecast downloaded video content to my TV. Chromecast 2 offers better casting then Chromecast 1 but seems to still suffer and buffer often when videostream casting anything that is 720P or higher. Will chromecast ultra help with this? Also I like to screen-cast my chrome browser and although chromecast 2 is much better at this the 1 will the Chromecast ultra help with this? I would consider upgrading to ultra if it can screen-cast and videocast more efficiently. I should mention that I only have a 1080P compatible TV.

Great summation and comparison Thio, still relevant today. There is more 4k content out now though so the ultra is an even better choice.
Question: Is there a way to change the resolution on casted TH-cam videos? As far as I can tell the Chromecast just finds the optimal res automatically and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it. Cheers.
Is it mandatory to use the power brick to run chromecast? I mean can't we plug it into the usb slot provided by the tv or monitor?
you forgot to mention that when you open the chromecast app you can cast your phone to your tv. so your entire phones content is streamable. I don't use the stream buttons. even right now I'm watching youtube and commenting while my phone is on my tv. and can easily go to my gallery or music player and stream that too.
Many don't know this. if you cast your phones media player to chromecast the sound quality is equal. when you play audio on the chromecast without casting your entire phone you lose audio quality. tons of it.

I mean my dad just got a 4k smart tv but i have a 1080p tv and i want to mirror my cheap lg metro phone on both tvs cuz i have a app that streams movies for free. I think it's worth getting the ultra if it works on 1080p, loads better, better quality when i mirror my phone.

I'm thinking of getting one or the other to use with a Nest Hello doorbell. I'm wondering if the Ultra would pull up the doorbell stream any faster or for this purpose alone it wouldn't make a difference...?

the Ethernet cable can be used with the other Chromecast too if you use that Ethernet wall adapter. The adapter was available before Ultras were even a thing.

Yes you can just use TH-cam it has plenty of 4k content and even some 8k
how about if i wanna just use it for google movies app and would that have space limit on the chromecast ultra? i think tv has storage not sure but would be nice to have digital movies if i cant find physical copy.

YT just stopped supporting their casting APP on my Sharp AQUOS TV, is there anything I can do in terms of software to get this function back or do I need to buy a CCU?

Is it 1Gb/s or only 100Mb/s?
Do any of these services, IE TH-cam, Amazon, Netflix etc. let you download 4k content, or are they all just streaming?
I have a 4k HDR Samsung but I only have 10Mbps download speed which is shy of the recommended speeds of 15 -20Mbps.

I have a smart TV, which has the built-in cast application. works great on TH-cam, netflix, but not all the apps on the phone allow me to cast. for example, hbo go does not allow the cast function on my phone, although netflix allows me the cast function. I mention that the smartphone is Samsung. I would like to ask you, if the purchase of such a device supplements the applications that do not allow the cast function, embedded in the TV? Also, such a device allows me to run some applications, such as Horizon go (this application is a TV operator that once installed on smartpine allows you to watch many TV channels)? Thanks!

1) How does the AC Adapter get the signal from the ethernet cable to the Chromecast? Does it go through the usb cable? Or does it send a Wifi signal to the Chromecast?

I have the original version of the chromecast, my question is.. does the new chromecast better at streaming from my computer? I stream my google chrome browser from my PC to my TV because I watch streaming websites and it skips sometimes due to bandwidth issues I guess?

Hey there, Doubt. My TV has no HDMI port, but my A/V receiver does, is it possible to make it work through the receiver?
My LG OLED can be cast to by my phone but the chromecast can turn my amp and TV on and cast using phone or google home, I can now listen to music across my wifi network to my 7.2 surround system and synchronize with my google home speakers in the rest of my home and also adjust the audio delay too. I was struggling to find a whole home audio solution that would incorporate my wired Atmos setup with wireless smart speakers but this is it. Speaker groups in the google home app make it so easy.

Is there a way to toggle HDMI ports with Chrome Cast Ultra? I can't think of how that would be possible. But i use my monitor for my PC. Perhaps I should search a video on casting computer to my TV via ChromeCast, although i can already imagine that may not be a good idea.
What's wrong with my ultra chromecast always vanishing the icon i already do all just to view the icon but nothing happenned is it something to do with my wifi but i have strong connnection what would i do i tried removing in the plug but sometime will and aometimes will not pls help
wow ur Chromecast seems to be faster than mine. when I press cast in the yt app, it takes a few sec for mine to show the yt logo and a few more to even start streaming. And sometimes it even glitches out. is it just my luck as usual or is this normal for the 2nd gen normal Chromecast?

it's worth noting that that Wired ethernet power adapter will work with the 1080P Chromecast. and is only 10/100 ethernet port.

I have a Samsung UN 65 KS 8500 TV with WiFi built in but don't know why the WiFi drop alot . I like to watch TH-cam 4k videos but streaming suffer WiFi drop make me want to Smash the TV .So, does Chromecast Ultra do any better if it is the case to solve TV WiFi built in problems ? G Henrickson no. my chromecast died. I purchased 2nd gen. it's starting to not connect. I need a new one asap. I'm getting the ultra because 4k tv is here. I wouldn't buy a non 4k tv. in a few months I'll be buying the hdr 4k samsung tv for 2500.00. BTW my chromecasts die because I use it for TV so it's on whenever my TV is on because I plug the USB into the TV right next to the hdmi no ac outlet necessary. so they burn out like all wifi devices.
NY Jay I connect my Chromecast to the TV over USB for power too. Never had an issue with it. First gen Chromecase still working fine. :)
Victor Tran my issue is being off work from an injury and using my chromecast like a set top box. it can only be too hot to touch for so many hours before it burns out. it took a few months but it eventually stopped working. my 2nd Gen is started to glitch too. I'm over using. for 35 bucks I'm getting 200$ per month on it with showbox.
NY Jay Well, my Chromecast heats up like crazy too. I don't use it as often as you, but even when I'm not using it the Chromecast heats up. ;)
