This is a really fantastic demo! Thanks a lot for taking the time to be so thorough. Answered tons of my questions concerning the quality of the sounds. I've been gigging with an HD500 and am really considering taking the plunge on one of these.
Well I thought I was going to get a bedroom video of somebody struggling thru Smoke on the Water with 20 different sounds....but got some really great playing and learnt something. Thanks!
Excellent display of what the Variax is capable of. I have a 600 and play it more than my Gibson Les Paul now. It's a fun guitar to play (action, setup, etc...) and it sounds great.
What a good demo on the Variax 700! And wonderful playing man! Thanks for posting this video. It's a pretty thorough one featuring some of the "flavors" the guitar comes with. Cheers! I wish I could play like you do. :)
@ricomajestic yes, it will. actually the circuit on this guitar was "transplanted" to another one, build buy a luthier, and that guitar also has regular pickups, you can switch between variax and regular coils.
Freaking awesome! Wonderful playing! bravo! I've been shopping for "the right guitar" but I have to say, after seeing this, I'm buying one of these!! Thanks! :) Loved the "To Be With You" solo. Great demonstration.
Great stuff... I must say I was interested in this guitar before, but after seeing you demo it, I want one NOW!!! Serious ly great playing and taste.. Loved the Metheny and Johnson too ;)
I've really gotta get a Variax and a POD. The purists may balk, but I'm pretty impressed with this setup. I'm also even MORE impressed with your playing! You are a stylistic chameleon, which is so hard to find these days.
thanks for your comment! the neck on the 700 is kinda similar to a strat i guess, pretty fat. i had my trusty ibanez rg 470 for ten years now, and that is the most confortable guitar for me, but the variax is ok... diferent feel, not so good for shredding, but cool. the pod xt live was connected directly to the input on the soundcard. recording software is cakewalk sonar 7 producer edition. cheers mate
You are very talented. I have 4 of these, but you made me appreciate the guitars even more. Line6 is lucky to have you as an unpaid Rep. Best to you and your life choices.
the pod xt live have a special input for the variax, when they are connected with a digital cable you can control the guitar models from the pod. the software for the guitar tuning is called "line 6 workbench". if you have the pod xt live or other pod with special variax input, the software is for free. if you don't have it you have to purchase it and it comes with a special adaptor. the guitar has to be in standard tuning.
@Nerka131 there actualy are pickups. individual ones right at the bridge of the guitar, atached to the bridge to be exact. they're very small and only get the sound from which particular note your hitting. the electronics in the guitars pre-built and customized system change that note to different effects to sound like a ex: banjo, 12 string, stratocaster, acoustic, classical, citar, etc.
VARIAX RULES my friend. IT'S THE MOST AMAZING PIECE OF GEAR I EVER HAD. CAN'T STOP PLAYING WITH IT.... the tuning is within the variax... you can tune each string up or down up to 1 octave without touching the tuning machines.... amazing! check it out, you'll be blown away
the thing around the neck by the headstock, is to be put farther down the neck to mute out open notes especially with heavy destortion and sweep picking :)
it's a hair band. sometimes when you tap with more than 1 finger on the right hand, you can locate the hair band over the strings to mute unwanted noises
@denis724 thanks denis.. hey, i don't remember exactly. i think it was the jazzclean(roland jazz chorus emulation), with some reverb. the tone control on the variax was at 50% i would say. hope you get it!!! cheers
yes, i think it will do good in metal. and the tuning features are great if you want to go down in some songs without having to touch the tuning machines.... will try to do some metal
sounds great! I was going to try one of the older variax models out a couple years back but all the ones they had at guitar center were broken! None of them worked. I really liked the different tunings and the acoustic. Great playing bro.
yes if you buy the software it comes with a special connect. if you have pod xt live, or x3 live or a line 6 amp with special connection for variax, the software is free for you to download
Are the different tunings, acoustic guitar sound, banjo sound, 12 string sound etc. features of the Variax or features of the Live XT? I'm planning to get a Live XT, but I can't afford a Variax right now. Awsome vid man!
Great playing! I have the 300. I only use it for 12-string, acoustic, and exotic models any more because my Ibanez RG 4__ blows it out of the water as a standard electric guitar.
@mojoefly yes you can with the variax workbench app you can create your own guitar, even a guitar with an acoustic guitar's body and electric guitar's pick ups...
thanks a lot!!! actually i don't recall the exact amp models for each sound... i remember i was changing a trying different sounds. the acoustic and banjo sounds don't use any amps modulation at all....
Te felicito Andres, tocas increible, Tengo tu mismo set up El pod xt live mas la Variax 600.
@andyvicius You definitely should, because your demo video is better than any of the ones they've put out themselves, imo. I just got mine today, and am loving exploring all these new sounds. The only thing that troubles me is that I can't seem to dial in a nice, thick distorted sound for metal. Maybe with a bit more fiddling, but I haven't found it yet. I'm in love with the 12 string models, though!
hey denis,i did reply your question. i don't remember exactly. i think it was the jazzclean(roland jazz chorus emulation), with some reverb. the tone control on the variax was at 50% i would say. hope you get it!!! cheers
@giometaxas thanks mate. i think you need a guitar with a humbucker on the neck position to get that sound. so... get a les paul... or, yes with variax you can do it all
Awesome vid, amazing playing man. I've owned a Variax for nearly a year now, but I'm only just about to get my hands on a PodXT. Does all the software I need for the different tunings etc. come with the XT?
very nice! i am buying a variax 700 very soon. I own a POD x3live. just wondering what amps and effects you modeled for each guitar? again, awesome playing!
Great playing! Are you using stock Vax patches? I have a 300 & 700 and they sound flat compared to the sounds your getting. Especially the strat tones, which I'm assuming is what you opened with. Maybe it's a question of technique, but you seem to be getting alot more string nuance, attack and detail (almost to the level of normal magnetic pups) than I get.
Wow sick job/sound man, love the tuning feature, now i can play low tuning with my floyd rose on demand :P. i also love the 12 string mode, sounds good, how much would this cost in CAD or USD?
Do you find the trem annoying when you're trying to play a fixed bridge sound (les Paul for example) when bending strings (and other strings going out of tune). Could you easily block it or use a tremol-no device? Also, if you had a fixed bridge version would you miss the trem option with the strat sound? Great vid by the way!
Aite kool...tnx man! Was just wondering, wud having a line6 pod xt live, or some other line6 multi effects pedal, and the workbench software be enuff. thanks.
Different, nice bebop and acoustic models, I didn't even know they were included. It has a tuning modeler on it? ..or did you just tune it and re-record (I didn't notice it)? Oh, and I was digging the Manhattan part there too. :D
Definitely the best video about variax on youtube.
Congratulations.
Excellent! Both your demonstration of the unit and your proficiency as a guitarist. Goes to show you, its all in the fingers. Great Job!
This is a really fantastic demo! Thanks a lot for taking the time to be so thorough. Answered tons of my questions concerning the quality of the sounds. I've been gigging with an HD500 and am really considering taking the plunge on one of these.
LOVE the 2-string bass setting. You put out some great lines and fill there. Good playing all around. Love those Variax's
The accoustic setting sounds beautiful! Thanks for posting!
Well I thought I was going to get a bedroom video of somebody struggling thru Smoke on the Water with 20 different sounds....but got some really great playing and learnt something. Thanks!
Truly great video. Your variety of tones and styles show the Variax to its best and persuaded me to buy...Thanks!
The acoustic settings sounded awesome! I really want that PodXT Live now. :D Great job!
Excellent display of what the Variax is capable of. I have a 600 and play it more than my Gibson Les Paul now. It's a fun guitar to play (action, setup, etc...) and it sounds great.

LOL xD The banjo right after the friggin low tuning =D Great vid man,,the acoustic tone just blew me away !
Great demonstration.
very nice, possibly the best demo of the variax+podxt i've seen. thanks for making that vid!
Donna Lee! Great examples for each model, thanks for posting!
amizing right hand tecnique. love it
Great stuff... I must say I was interested in this guitar before, but after seeing you demo it, I want one NOW!!! Serious ly great playing and taste.. Loved the Metheny and Johnson too ;)

the pod xt live was connected directly to the input on the soundcard.
recording software is cakewalk sonar 7 producer edition.
cheers mate
@Felixxxxxxxify hey, it's a 3 note chord(Badd9 in regular tuning). 5th string, 2nd fret - 4th string, 4th fret - 3rd string, 6th fret.
You are very talented. I have 4 of these, but you made me appreciate the guitars even more. Line6 is lucky to have you as an unpaid Rep. Best to you and your life choices.

Потрясающе!!!Шикарный инструмент!!!Великолепная игра))))))))

lol, I spoke too soon. The 175 is amazing as well. 35 years now, and I still can't play as fluid as that. Never give up! ;)
@Kamis5050 in order to get the variax acoustic sound, you just need a variax. it's a preset on that guitar. no pod or anything else needed
@gtrgdss thanks a lot!!! glad you liked it. cheers from argentina
THANKS! the tuning modeler is included with the guitar, you need the workbench software to do that.
it's a hair band. sometimes when you tap with more than 1 finger on the right hand, you can locate the hair band over the strings to mute unwanted noises
@nachoDominguez esos sonidos son de la guitarra line 6 variax. es una guitarra con los sonidos de 25 instrumentos.
thanks a lot! bright size life is one of my favorite albums ever.
This video was the deciding factor on whether or not I bought one of these. I should have it in the mail any day now :)
Wow, that guitar sounds amazing.
Your also very talented.
@denis724 thanks denis.. hey, i don't remember exactly. i think it was the jazzclean(roland jazz chorus emulation), with some reverb. the tone control on the variax was at 50% i would say. hope you get it!!! cheers

acoustic sound is awesome!
That guitar is amazing.

Haha that rockabilly part was sick. Nice tones.
you can place it over the strings to mute them when tapping with several right hand fingers, etc..
Se va directo a mis favoritos! Bravo!
capo, capo, capo!!! jaja vamos esa viola carajo!!! Una masa Andy querido!!! Ojala nos veamos pronto!!! Mu
Are the different tunings, acoustic guitar sound, banjo sound, 12 string sound etc. features of the Variax or features of the Live XT? I'm planning to get a Live XT, but I can't afford a Variax right now. Awsome vid man!
wow dude I love it, all I can say is Line 6 has come a long way :)
Great playing!
I have the 300. I only use it for 12-string, acoustic, and exotic models any more because my Ibanez RG 4__ blows it out of the water as a standard electric guitar.
@mojoefly yes you can with the variax workbench app you can create your own guitar, even a guitar with an acoustic guitar's body and electric guitar's pick ups...
thanks a lot for your kind word tim!
for this vid i plugged the pod straight to the computer's soundcard.
cheers from argentina
Ni idea de que existia esta viola, y mucho menos me imaginaba que la tenia un compatriota! Saludos desde Paraná!
Awesome playing. Id love to see you play live.
thanks a lot!!! actually i don't recall the exact amp models for each sound... i remember i was changing a trying different sounds. the acoustic and banjo sounds don't use any amps modulation at all....
@frozenfarm you don't need to have it plugged to the computer. only to edit tunings and stuff, but you can save it
@uninoculated thanks mate. i was using ernie ball 10's. no amp, just pod xt live.
Sos un capo! Gracias por la demostracion.. muy buena viola!
to connect the variax with digital cable you need pod xt live, x3 live or any pod with special variax input.
Лучшая демонстрация. Спасибо.
yes, workbench is what you need. if you don't have a pod xt live or x3 live you have to purchase the workbench software.
Te felicito Andres, tocas increible, Tengo tu mismo set up El pod xt live mas la Variax 600. Una consulta , que ampli ocupaste en el segundo tono, el de la lespaul con la capsula del neck, al cual le subes el volumen despues y satura un poquito, me encanto el timbre es super sensitivo al touch. thanks for your comment. the pod xt it works with any guitar...
thanks a lot for watching!
@fedec16 si, podes conectar la viola al pod, y el pod al ampli y es lo mismo. para grabar lo hice directo
Nice demonstration man, loved the New Millenium Cyanide Chirst, although its in a lower tuning, but who cares :) Great video!
you welcome! glad you enjoyed it.
Nice demo, nice songs. Damn, i really want Variax now.
Good video. I enjoyed the samples of different models.
@andyvicius You definitely should, because your demo video is better than any of the ones they've put out themselves, imo. I just got mine today, and am loving exploring all these new sounds. chapo excellent jeu a la guitar woooo la classe , bravo tres bon feeling
actually i haven't notice that pick attack thing and the latency you mention i'm really happy with this guitar.. thanks for your comment
thanks for your comment mate. i guess on 0;45 it was a blues scale run, 3 notes per string.
Thanks for posting this vid. I am interested in buying the variax 700. Anyhow, I must say that any guitar would sound perfect in your hands.
hey denis,i did reply your question. i don't remember exactly. i think it was the jazzclean(roland jazz chorus emulation), with some reverb. the tone control on the variax was at 50% i would say. hope you get it!!! cheers
@giometaxas thanks mate. i think you need a guitar with a humbucker on the neck position to get that sound. so... get a les paul... or, yes with variax you can do it all
it actually does have a type of pickups they are in the bridge if i remember right
the variax cable is included. if you have pod xt live, or x3 live, you don't have to buy workbench. else, you do
@XAyubi it's a song by the band Mr big. called "to be with you".
amazing demo, brother.
@meliyalvaro te recomiendo estudiar todas las tecnicas. alternate picking, legato, sweep, son las 3 principales.
@Nerka131 it has a piezo pick up on the bridge, but no magnetic pickpus. check out the line6 website to find out more
Okay...I've been playing for over 40 years(yeah I'm ancient) but I've never seen anything like this! AWESOME! guy plays his ass off!
que buen sonido que tiene la nueva viola!!!
ahh el violero también tiene algo que ver!! jajaja
abrazo!
@buczekjoe thanks for your comment! happy new year
@IndianathePelimies you can get al the variax sounds without the pod xt live.
just ordered transparent blue 700. backordered until aug. 28 though
Awesome vid, amazing playing man. I've owned a Variax for nearly a year now, but I'm only just about to get my hands on a PodXT. Does all the software I need for the different tunings etc. come with the XT?
yes, it has sttings for the acoustic models. thanks mate!
@rsix3 that is a feature of the variax guitar
thanks mate! glad you liked it

yes! variax conected to pod xt live with digital cable included, and straight to the computer. line 6 rules!
Just ordered the same model/color =D Is that a scrunchie I see on the top of the fretboard? I always use one for heavy gain stuff :)
Different, nice bebop and acoustic models, I didn't even know they were included. It has a tuning modeler on it? ..or did you just tune it and re-record (I didn't notice it)? Oh, and I was digging the Manhattan part there too. :D
