- Steve Vai and the String Theories band perform the opening track "Now We Run" from the new DVD "Live In Minneapolis - Where The WIld Things Are".
The show was recorded and filmed at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN before a sold-out audience as part of Vais successful Sound Theories world tour.
Vai is widely known for both his unprecedented guitar playing techniques and the unique design of his signature series Ibanez Jem guitar. But his fans have become inextricably drawn to his melodic depth, and dynamic stage performance. The continued evolution of his craft is made apparent in the astonishing musicianship presented in "Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are". The 2 hour and 40 minute set contains several new tracks and re-orchestrated pieces culled from his rich catalog. His guitar-wielding extravaganza in 'The Murder' is an artistic performance piece that must be seen to be believed.
The addition of virtuoso violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun add a dazzling dimension to Vai's compositions and stage show, delivering fans the unexpected edge they always expect. Other world-class musicians chosen for Vai's band are: Bryan Beller (bass), Jeremy Colson (drums), Dave Weiner (guitar and sitar) and Zack Wiesinger (lap steel).
"Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are" is available on DVD, and audio CD on September 29th. Blu-ray on November 10.
The talent of this band is absolutely off the charts.
which charts?
@@calcwithfab1192 That's a good question. I always took it for granted other people knew lol
Abso-fuckin-lutely
@@calcwithfab1192 ... Obviously not any that you have
FZ is beaming his presence. I can feel it. Bless wonderful music. Bless wonderful musicians. Bless STEVIE VAI!!!
Kudos to the bass player and drummer for keeping it all together while Steve orbits Pluto!!!
Hearing this reminds me of Stevie's roots playing with Frank Zappa. Stevie has been playing with magnificent musicians since he was a teen. FZ would love this.
Haha. So true. Hilarious comment.
This was before Bezos went into space
So true though
Kudos the candy bar?
The duet he does with the violinists is the coolest thing ever
it is amazingly cool but if there are two violinists and one stave vai is it really a duet? definitely something for us all to think about here
@@Bigman69-69 But he's playing with them separately, essentially duetting with each of them (except the parts when they all are playing together but by themselves, in that case it's a trio of course)
That rug really ties the room together
Haha! Dilly dilly.
Shut the fuck up Donnie
Nicholas S You know what? It really does now that you mention it.
i was high and read this comment and instantly smiled
I'm staying. I'm finishing my coffee.
Just absolutely insane, every note sounds like Steve Vai's band every time - what a mind blowing level of musicianship
Intensity squared. Amazing!!
yes. something like that.
I am STRONGLY convinced that Steve Vai is an alien
A little green man is pulling all the levers inside his head. just like in men in black, but green.
+MrJhonlane I am strongly convinced you are either deluded or a joker ;)
+MrJhonlane I am STRONGLY convinced that Steve Vai is GAY
and I Strongly don't care lol..... it's his musical talent that impresses me,I personally don't try and visualize ones sexual preferences when it comes to their musical skills
Mesmo? Agora que vc conseguiu minha atenção, diga pra mamãe que a terapia esta dando certo, Felipe Matos esconde C0BR4
2021 - lockdown, drunk, apriciating this song even more. Going to sleep, will replay tomorrow. Thanks Vai and everyone.
The rhythm guitar, drums and bass are absolutely killing it.
Steve Vai's schedule:
7am - 7pm guitar practice
7pm - 11pm facial expression practice
11pm - 7am sleep
hehehe, i liked your comment xD
there is a button for that
no food
No distracting bitch that wants all your time...and passions, I'll be nice and not mention Teresa or Katajoon...
Spinefine...... 7-11pm facial expression practice the is one of the funniest lines ever!!! I would probably make the same faces if I could play like that! He is amazing and Shreds this song
Holy crap!! Now that's a friggin performance!!!!
Steve's a Beast!
Most definitely, The most talented guitarist of rock music today!!! 🔥🔥🔥💯
One of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. These people sure got their money's worth....WOW!!!!!
Deep pool of talent...Steve is off the charts...Jeremy holding the beat...and freakin' Bryan Beller layin' down the LAW.....Flippin' off the spectrum....Darn good stuff...History has spoken...
Yep this is insane ✌️
Thank you.
Nobody can sit here and watch this and tell me that he isn't the greatest guitarist ever.
Not even close, but he's pretty good ;)
@@vincentmoon9187 I mean, he really is though.
@ he'd be the first to disagree. But hey each to their own
@@vincentmoon9187 just because he is humble doesn't mean he isnt the greatest lol.
@@kylesmith261 for you, and that's fine. For me I don't think he'd crack my top 50.
What a brilliant assembly of musicians, led by Vai. You can tell they were all running at full throttle on that one.
THE MOST GRACIOUS, KIND, FREE HEARTED, CALM PERSON,
A GUITARIST CAN GET ALOT OF INSPIRATION IF HEAR WHAT
STEVE IS PLAYING, NOT JUST LISTENING.
Incredible, magical, masterful... it just shows what real musicians at the top of their game can do.
A whole childhood marked by this,, I'm thankful ❤
You know the performance will be from another world, when one of the band members plays a damn Flying V Violin -_-
I've never been more impressed by a group of musicians! Steve Vai is on another level. I only listened to him when he was with David Lee Roth, but his talent goes way farther than eat em and smile, and skyscraper.
this song is absolutely ballistic.
That Anne-Marie Calhoun. What an amazing artist and she absolutely LOVES what she does.
That performance was amazing. I'm in awe really.
Took my girfriend to concert in Toronto from that tour; she was completely blown away, as was I and everyone else who had to pick their jaws from off the floor. Unbelievable musicianship. Steve was in top form; no matter how many tecniques he invents - he always sounds like himself - kind of like Jeff Beck that way. Steve's tone is unbellievably greasy - in a good way. My girlfriend is the one now who is alert to Steve's upcoming tours. The violinists and the other members of the band are worl-class. Great concert Steve.
man I've seen & heard so many guitarist through the years but this guy definitely takes the cake in every category what a rad ass guy
Yeah, the most creative of all the shredders. I love Satch et al but Vai is a different level.
what i dont understand is why he doesnt have soooo much fame ! the fame he deserves man! he is awesome!
Gamersparadise Yeah, in reality I don't think he'd go down too well on Britain's/America's Got Talent? They'd be like WTF, where's the repetitive bass line, autotune, jangly gold jewellery and the 57 bitches?
Just like David Bowie. He has his direction and style in music that he rarely understands. That's why he is the best
He is astoundingly popular.
He Is famous and a genius
Cos as much as we love this, it's just not everyone's thing and I get that
People say we will never have a another Eddie Van Halen, but come on , Steve Vai is absolutely an incredible experience with a guitar as well.. will miss Eddie for sure , but Steve is a legend !!! Agreed !!!!
Steve's music was discovered by me at a very happy time in my life. For that reason, his compositions always bring a smile to my face. Thank you, Steve.
I love Steve Vai and his music.
I've seen him several times, and he never fails to blow my f******* mind
he is at a level WAY above a guitarist.... fantastically skilled....
Steva Vai's videos deverve Trillion of views. Noone can create these overall results in this kind of art !
Sounds like art! One of our times greatest artists!
Absolutly, the very highest form of complete artistry, endless passion for this thing we call music.STEVE really is our modern day MOZART, cocky and excellent in every way a gift to the listener . Enjoy it itz the real thing
😷😨😱😵😲👹👅👀💩🔥😀😂😂😂
Blown away and still reeling from the shock! Incredible performance!
Saw Steve live a few years ago, just after lockdown restrictions were lifted on his UK tour and he blew me away. First time seeing him live despite being a fan for years.
This is soooooo good. Every part played perfectly.
I feel so energized after listening to this
That's because MOST rock music has BORING rhythm: FLAT. Boom Bap Boom Boom Bap.
That's a big reason ZEPPELIN is above the rest: Page was a rhythm machine!
@@umpygoodness2369 you got it
@Steve - The shear composition, and especially the arrangement of this song is just out there. Very nice brother!
One of the best performances and songs I have ever heard. Those violinists are bad ass too. Perfect to play off Steve.
Incredible as usual !! great performance Steve is a real show man mixing amazing music and spectacle
steve vai greatest guitar player ever
YJM
I love the composer break in the madness, so playful, and then... back to the madness! ;)
After everything is said and done, Steve will be remembered for enhancing the human perception on what a guitar and it's player is capable of when fused together. He is revered today but will be hailed even higher in 500 years to come. We were just lucky to have been around in his time, seen him grow into the fruit that's Vai. Amen.
It apperead normal going to concerts 10, 5, 2 years ago...now, in Covid-era, I realize how much freedom was special
Freedom is dead. We traded it for smart phones.
6:12 I love that key change at the end of Now We Run, which leads into Steve's little fill before OOOO.
I love you Steve Vai!!!🥰😘😍 More power and God bless😎🙏🏻👍🏻😍
Never been more impressed by a guitarist. Vai and rhe violinist are oit of this world.
This is one of those songs where I don't want to hear the actual recorded version, this is just amazing by itself
absolutely love this, along with many others, but this is a masterpiece
He had the best teacher in the world ... FZ. So cool, so cool
zwwwz12 his teacher was Satriani, not Zappa
Pretty sure Steve would tell you he learned a lot from both of them. And he has said that he's only met two geniuses in his life: Frank Zappa and Devin Townsend.
@@janukasik4393 Didn't he go to Berklee?
Steve wow ! We never get tired of hearing you play . good luck and god bless
4:51 - when you see the “1 Minute Left” sign flash up, but you realise you’ve still got 84 minutes of music left to play.
'Jesse, put your shirt on and stop playing the drums, we have to cook!'
Charlie Barber "Yo Mister White, This is who I am now...........Bitch!
Twatthammer was good an' all, but jamming with Vai means I'm stacking mad cheddar. yo!"

Not only is Steve an absolute genius on the guitar he surrounds himself with amazing talent!
I saw all the live dvd performance... one of the most amazing ever seen!
Anyone got the tabs for the dancing at the beginning?
Luke Sparrow try to figure it out by listening....that helps you more :)
The alternate tapping of the feet is really tricky, but his feet tapping is very clean.
haha
Sorry but Steve Vai use sheet music
*Tab-dance*
You'll never find a more expressive and charismatic player with as much stage presence as Steve Vai. Sure there's artist out there that have great stage presence but are lacking the rest in some way.

@RakeRocter what is stage presence then? vai puts on a hell of a show
@@DaveDexterMusic Drats, now they know my secret.
The intro is incredible
After all these years and all the great guitarists we've seen..... they all serve to show how truly amazing Vai is.
In The Japanese release of this video they blur out his fingers and facial expressions.
Jeff Davis,Too much sexual tension for Japanese to handle?
He does remind me of a Japanese Housekeeper.

The Future has Arrived
these noble tonewoods are surely a big part of his giutarsound...
I’ve seen Steve Vai 3 times live and I will go again and again! So gifted technically and an incredible showman! It’s like seeing a world class classical musician perform. What’s funny is I’m a drummer but he’s my favorite musician!!!
funny I love Rush and Steve Vai too. seen them both many many times stretching back to 1985 for Rush and 1993 for Steve Vai.

that violin interlude, I saw beauty there, the contrast is intense. Wish he did more of that.
He must have the pick of destiny

He combines the best of Zappa and the best of Satriani. What more could one ask for?

I think Steve and his band class this as the warm up. Nicely loosened up, now for the rest of the show. :)

Go back listening at Elvis it urges
Wow unbelievable!!! The ambition and dedication you've put it in all your life to become the musician you are is so incredible!!!
that guitar has lights in it...Steve Vai showed that guitar in Rig Rundown
full of himself? steve is such a humble guy, go watch him on interviews and you'll see

Sometimes you forget how great this guy actually is!! Absolutly Amazing band!! One of the original ultra guitar gods!!
Um gênio. Está entre os melhores do mundo. Solo agressivo, porém musicado, ou seja, nem uma nota fora do contesto. É um mago na guitarra, se faltava falar, agora não falta mais. Paro por aki. Nada mais à dizer.

I have no idea why but it literally makes me emotional when the voilin players go ham with steve. Its so powerful it brings tears to me eyes. Musicians at the top of their game
How the friggin' milk do you get synced up pitch bends between a guitar and a violin? holy NUTS
I seen an interview video with all
the band members.
Anna Marie Calhoun said the rehearsed
for six months for this tour.
As for syncing the guitar and violin.
Her and the other violinist had to
rethink the way they played, because
normally you don’t slide into notes
on a violin.
RIP Alec de Pue...
i Want his jacket/coat? . . . .And his guitar . . . very tasteful
My first time hearing this. Wow. Another masterpiece by Steve Vai and his band.👍💪❤️

You not realized yet, that song is about a man who's behind on his client acquisition and is facing tough times ahead unless he finds someone to play for him. He wanted Johnny to lose so he could make Johnny believe he had something to give Johnny.
Johnny did not lose a single thing that day.
dude those string harmonies between electric and violin are mind shattering!
