@@Scotty_J. I worked for TrimLine Design for a few months back in the early 80s using 3M plastic stripes. But back in the 70s I did a lot of hand striping (swordtail) and tinting to match stripe color at Williams Cadillac. The old lacquer days.
@@FishersOffRoad thank you! I do decals all the time and order sets because I am terrible at putting them on. I wonder if that is what the tint guys do too.
@qetuoification true story. My local tint shop has a tank of water and baby shampoo mixture hooked up to a pump with hose and spray nozzle. They swear by it and my tint is always perfect
Thank you very much for that demonstration, sir. I will try this out next time I place a sticker on anything, because I have been running into serious problems doing this the "normal" way. 👏
I worked for a company at one time and I had to apply large and small decals to various pieces of equipment. I found that any type of "Non-Ammonia", liquid window cleaner, worked great.
@dickfitswell3437 I only use on stickers with adhesive on them, it works on all of our stickers. We need a heat gun to take them off when we get new units every six months.
The vinyl will not stick as well to any oil or waxy surface. Use a little rubbing alcohol to clean the area where the decal will be applied. If you're applying the decal to glass, DO NOT use Windex or other ammonia-based cleaners; the ammonia interferes with the adhesive.
Use this method only if the back of the decal is white. If the back is gray, use only the dry method. The gray afhesive indicates that the decal is cast vinyl with air channels that prevent bubbles when installing. If you use a wet methid on a decal with a gray backing, the decal will fail.
Thank you for the great description! The one I’m using is white on the back. We put these decals on 25 side-by-sides, we rotate them out every six months so we don’t invest a lot of money in them. The decals hold up through mud, water & power washing every day so they do the job. 👍🏼
L I B what ye know. I never dreamed you could do that. I’m the guy that is so picky about decals having to be perfect too. Thank you for this tid bit. Hopefully it really works lol
Can someone explain how the decal adhesive isn't effected by the soapy water? My guestimate would be this would definitely weaken the bond to some degree.
I’ve seen folks use water & baby shampoo for tint and decals. I think it’s so it doesn’t cry. Great video, I’ve got a ton of stickers and decals that are in a big container because I’m too shickenchit to stick em on my garage fridge. 😂
That works with nearly any decal. It's how we put the huge Screaming Chicken decals on the hoods of Trans Ams back in the 80s. 😂
I was gonna say, I learned this working in a body shop in the 70s. Works wonders for pin striping
@@Scotty_J. I worked for TrimLine Design for a few months back in the early 80s using 3M plastic stripes. But back in the 70s I did a lot of hand striping (swordtail) and tinting to match stripe color at Williams Cadillac. The old lacquer days.
“screaminh chicken”
I use axel greese
I forgot about screaming chicken lady lmao
I've been flipping through these things for 2 hours and I finally found something that might be useful
Thanks for watching!
Thanks. This really helps
Literally looking this up at work putting stickers on a dually 😂
Okay it worked like a charm and you can see which decal went on first and which one went on AFTER watching this video
Glad it worked out for ya! 👍🏼
What's the soapy water mix?
2 drops of Dawn in the bottle of water.
@@FishersOffRoad thank you! I do decals all the time and order sets because I am terrible at putting them on. I wonder if that is what the tint guys do too.
Use glass cleaner it leaves less residue behind the sticker. This also works with vinyl transfer decals. Good tip, keep them coming.
Same for tint. Baby shampoo works really good. Like a capful for a gallon of water.
Baby shampoo is residue-free
@qetuoification true story. My local tint shop has a tank of water and baby shampoo mixture hooked up to a pump with hose and spray nozzle. They swear by it and my tint is always perfect
@@ridge69baby shampoo is what I’ve always used to tint. Never fails
Could you please recommend any trade printers who offer vinyl transfer decals?

Haven’t seen much from y’all since we met at East Coast sxs event! Where bad weather shut the event down early! Glad to see y’all
OMG This takes me back to the 90's when everyone knew how to do this.
Thank you. This is super instructive info. I wish I had seen this video months ago.

I guess I take things for granted . This is how we've done it forever, but if you know, you know .

I would have never guessed you'd do that. Crazy

Johnsons baby shampoo works the best, and all you need is a 3-5 drops. 15 years of doing signage, you learn a thing or two. Lol
This video is getting ready to hit 10Million views on Facebook Reels, and 2K comments on how to do it from pro’s, and they’re all different. 😂
@FishersOffRoad great! Now you're an absolute pro at it. After reading everyone's experience 🤣😂
Now it’s just trying to figure out which way to do it! 😆
Does it work with sticky stickers or just decals? I'm thinking the soap would break down the 'stick' of the sticky backing
@dickfitswell3437 I only use on stickers with adhesive on them, it works on all of our stickers. We need a heat gun to take them off when we get new units every six months.

never thought of this man thanks

So treat it like tint. 👍🏼 good shit

That sticker also added 10hp to the ATV. 😅

It will leave your tint with a haze on it too
LOL! Check out the C13... Looks good!

That’s a great idea thanks

Baby ‘No Tears’ shampoo works best for wet-mounting decals! Our signshop does a lot of these
Baby shampoo works great! Put only like 2 good drops into warm water in a spry bottle, shake, and ready to go.
It seems counterintuitive but as you demonstrate here it is effective, tried and true.
Awesome thank you 😊
You bet, thanks for watching! 👍🏼
Amazing
I’ve been doing this for 80 years. I taught my grandpa this technique when he was in diapers.
Ha ha, got your joke! Clever.
Use blue colored soap (dawn, etc) so it won't turn orange tint. If sticker has clear background.
Slightly soapy water, barely soapy. Like 8 drops of dawn dishwasher soap in the spray bottle. Don't use to much soap.
So you're saying 50/50 ratio?
I’ve seen so many different ratios, the experts have commented and said 2-3 drops of Dawn, or baby shampoo is perfect.
100% works. Every time.
Felt tipped squeegee works great. No chance of making marks or scratches
Good job 👍
Thank you! 👍🏼
Men are great. Thanks 😊
Won't the soapy water screw up the glue?
No it doesn’t, as a matter of fact it will dry so good you’ll probably need a hair dryer or heat gun to get it off.
@@FishersOffRoadI read that in your southern accent
If u use windex less residue & it evaporates faster for the final product
Very nice

NEVER HAVE I EVER had ANY luck with this method. Tried all different soaps and recommended mixture ratios
Did you ever try windex? We use that as well.
do you use warm water or cold water? also what type of soap is needed?
Brilliant
Thank you! 👍🏼
Does this work on plastics too??
Can someone explain how the decal adhesive isn't effected by the soapy water? My guestimate would be this would definitely weaken the bond to some degree.
Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo is what my local tint shop recommends. Tint is just a really good sticker after all.
I would think that the soapy water would affect the integrity of the adhesive on the sticker- I guess not 👍👍👍
ive only been doing this for 40 years or so.
Does the dry soap that's stuck underneath mess up the paint?
I’ve seen folks use water & baby shampoo for tint and decals. I think it’s so it doesn’t cry.
Great video, I’ve got a ton of stickers and decals that are in a big container because I’m too shickenchit to stick em on my garage fridge. 😂
The last time i applied a sticker to a 'vehicle', I was nine yrs old and it was my bike.
Have been putting stickers on semi trucks like that for 25 years
Now, this is how shorts are supposed to be like.
Thanks for watching! 👍🏼
I’m not sure if the vinyl sticker will still be sticky
Is that the same as tinting windows?
