omggg y'all not smart. we've literally seen how important visuals are in kpop since the pandemic. joy's hello teaser which made every kpop stan recreate it with their fav idol. h1-key's viral butterfly teasers literally had them charting higher than nmixx at one point. aespa's next level teasers + the karina one during savage. newjeans playing into the y2k concept. and once again, xg undergoing a creative revamp that literally shot them up.
babymonster's debut was so unserious... it sounds like they filled an ai with the discographies of every yg artist and then asked it to make a song for a girlgroup
LITERALLY! it sounded like all yg artist put together. the beat was bp, vocals/mixing was def 2ne1 and bigbang, that ending was straight up treasure. like i heard every one in that song

The funny thing is that kpop became popular because it was different from pop, and now labels want to create songs that are as "American" as possible, but still want it to be kpop and they are failing miserably. Decide on a style. Almost all of the songs from 2023 are just bland

it's annoying how the only time kpop stans acknowledge the fact that kpop was rooted in Black culture/music is when they want to push back on "westernization" allegations. Like obviously kpop isn't authentic korean culture, but it does have an identity and a distinct sound that you usually don't find in mainstream western music. Compare the songs like I am the best, fantastic baby, I need u, boombayah etc to songs like seven, boys like you, the feels, butter and such. If I’m being honest a lot of K-pop choreography relies heavily on camerawork nowadays… I get that its trying to make it more appealing but I really miss the time where we had choreography that we can all dance to without making look awkward

It says something that YG's biggest hit this year came from AKMU (and not even a GOOD AKMU song either). I was honestly shocked by how much of a nothing Babymonster's debut was. Like I wasn't expecting the song to be good but the debut itself felt really rushed (despite being delayed which is CRAZY). Like it did not feel like the big epic thing that I would expect from a Big 3 gg debut. It felt like they barely even promoted it, tbh. If they had debuted like this shortly after their show that would have been different because the momentum was there but because of the delays they really needed to do way more to hype the group back up.
At least Loona had a really good year. Odd Eye Circle's comeback was good. Loossemble's debut was good. Chuu's debut...well it was kind of meh but it was cute. Heejin's debut was good.

Unfortunately its obvious companies are pushing out songs with hopes they go viral on the clock app. I am very anti short song. I need an intro, bridge, pre chorus etc. i need those for a good song personally.

I absolutely love boy groups but I feel like some of them have to realize that you can’t make only noise music. I know that you can’t please everyone especially in the music industry but the point is to make money by getting new fans and having them buy your albums so you have to at least try something new once in a while. I personally think that all groups should stick to creative concepts as long as it’s working for them like there’s no reason everyone should hate one of your songs besides what 10 people

I feel like we always say this but it’s true, 2023 was boring. Companies focus too much on breaking through in the west, having a viral moment or stealing other companies ideas that everything being released just comes and goes, nothing is memorable. We’re really ending 4th gen on a low note.

Jungkook charted the best because of the type of promotion he had, and because his music was mainstream pop with countless collaborations and remixes. Jimin comes second in charting, who easily had the worst promotion that lasted for 9 days.

I think that about the Kpop westernization thing, although the industry was always inspired by it, Kpop was still unique and different from Pop music and that's what made fans all around the world like it (including the Korean lyrics) thus, making it be the whole point of its fame. But you hit the nail on the spot right there. People mention the fact that people don't see a problem with Kpop trying to promote itself in Japan and China as seemingly hypocritical but imo, it doesn't make sense to put this over the context of westernization because just as you said, they don't really need to change themselves and their "Asianess/Koreaness" to appeal to them because let's face it, even if they don't have exactly the same cultures, it can be said that Asian culture as a whole might be very similar to one another (correct me if I'm wrong). Especially the K.J.C ones which there was (and even still has) a lot of feud between them for "appropriating" their cultures to one another. Not to mention that idol culture is a lot more known and familiar to SEA. Now if we were to mention westernization in Kpop, it makes more sense to see a problem in that. Because they have to change themselves and be more "American" to be liked and respected by the general American public because let's be honest, Kpop isn't taken seriously in the west by non-fans and probably, it will never even be the case.
And true, if it keeps going this way, Kpop probably will turn into another normal and boring Pop industry that we all know about. Not that releasing a song or two that sounds like mainstream Pop or English versions/songs are a bad thing, but still, if you wanted to hear them singing in English and with generic pop sounds, then you might as well just listen to normal Pop lol. And that brings me to the question, why are companies afraid of letting Kpop be a niche? (not in the way of not being known but focusing more on who is already a fan of the industry whether than trying to appeal to locals/general public that clearly doesn't care for them.) since it doesn't mean that they will make less money because of the loyal fans (especially the Korean and Japanese that spend a lot on them) so what is the worry behind it? And also can't they focus more on the domestic public/market? I'm sure that no one outside of Korea will dislike that and in fact, they would love for Kpop to embrace their uniqueness more. In short, please, want your faves to be popular in Korea.

The last time I listened to Wallflower and Killing me good was like literally two days ago. I really enjoy these two. But Ready to be was just an okayish album. Wallflower and Got the thrill(talk that talks little sister) carried.

I really love limelight's debut with honestly! I heard it once but I was in a hurry so I forgot to save it to watch it later and I thought of it and really wanted to listen to it, I had to go on so many social media apps and Kpop groupchats to ask about that song
