1967 Bear Grizzly versus 2022 Bear Grizzly

- This video is a request from one of my viewers by the name of Matthew. He wanted me to do a comparison review on a vintage Bear Grizzly and a new manufacture Bear Grizzly. So, in this video I do just that.
I compare 2 Bear Grizzly Bows one made in 1967 and one made in 2022.
The review was quite suprising even to me, check it out and let me know what you think.

I shoot a 1968 tiger wood grizzly and love it. I’ve never been able to notice a difference between it and my 2011 single lam grizzly at the same weight. Your results help verify that the “single lam bad “ crowd are wrong. Liked the video, thanks.
That's a great video on both the vintage and new grizzly recurves . I've been wanting to get one for a while now and so I just ordered a 90th anniversary Grizzly 45# from 3Rivers archery. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on these two fine bows, I can't wait to get mine and run some arrows through it.
Looking at the same bow. I need to step down from my 50# Checkmate.
I'd be very happy to own either bow but I really like the older one . Good vid .
Seems like the Newer Super Grizzly is closer to an older bow but with more modern deeper limb tips to take a Fast Flight string as the older Bear Grizzly from late 1970 before the move and tip redesign in 1980 could only take a defunct Dracon B-77 string at the most for some of the later models from 1977 when Dracon B-77 first came out to end of 1979. Now these bows only get Dracon B-55 as the D--97 is still too fast for the bows. Also, for same price as a modern Bear Grizzly maybe a little lower is the German made Bearpaw Creed that can take a Fast Flight string though the major difference is the Bearpaw does not have fiberglass over the front part of handle area.

Awesome review! I miss my Bear "Whitetail" 45/50#@27/28". It was probably made in the 70's or 80's. I always wondered how long these old Bear bows would last.

Very informative video, I have a Bear 64 Kodiak @45, 69 Tigercat @40 and a 70 Grizzly with a 56"AMO and # 50. All three still meet listed specs, and I use them on a regular basis. My 70 Grizzly with its 56" AMO and a what I think is a maple laminate in the riser I have always wondered if this became the protype for the Super Grizzly. as this model was only made for a couple of years.

Love old Bear recurve bows. Had a nice polar I wish I kept. Late sixties model
I have a 59 series bear Kodiak, when rosé wood was banned they used maple and renamed it the Gizzly
My first bow. 1967 Grizzly. I was in the 7th grade. I think I paid $60-$80 dollars for it brand new. I am pretty sure it was less than $100. I gave it my brother in the late 1990's. Why did I do that?
Awesome video!! I have wondered how the new bows compared to their vintage brothers.. i have a vintage 45lb kodiak Hunter, if you still have the new one on loan, I could send you mine to compare.. I thinking is a 68, it's definitely mid to late 60s. I think in 70 they started making both kodiak and grizzly in ' future wood' ( not a fan of those, I like the exotic woods better. I think the others are maple infused with color)

If they both shot the 650gr arrow at the same speed 144fps then why would the KE be different ? 30 ke vs 27ke ?
You can see the maple lamination going up each side of both risers. Both have two lamination. Thanks for comparison.
Nope the 2022 only has one laminate of Maple.. The 1967 has 2 laminations not sure what you were looking at...You may be looking at the black glass on on each side of the lamination on the 2022 but I asuure you it only has one lamination of Maple.
22 is one laminate. Cheaper to build. Why I credit the vintage more.

@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 right. I feel bear could give a little more value on this model and toss on some cheap reinforced limb tips. Nothing fancy just something a bit more robust.
@@xfactoroutdoors165 They do on the Super Grizzly but that is not worth the price, get a Bearpaw Creed instead for a little less then the standard Bear Grizzly.

Please, what is the recommended arrow weight (gpp) for the Grizzly? I got a lot of documentation with my Grizzly, but nothing about arrow weight...

Those results are interesting, I would have guessed the vintage with 2 maple laminates would be faster/ stronger. Maybe Bear knew this, that's why there is only 1 now??
More weight = more energy absorption.
The bow is almost 60 years old and has thousands of shots through it. It still beat the new bow by 1 fps lol
With less limb tip weight that is the speed difference

Good informative video. I've got a very similar vintage Bear bow with the ivory reinforcement and markings in the same area's. AMO 56" 41#
How do you find out the year as mine is second hand? Is there any way to look it up. Thanks for any help.

Have u ever seen a stemmler mogul ll 52 amo recurve bow and who made it and what it's worth ?
I have used a grizzly for quite a few years. My current is a 50 lb. I have had since the 90s. My other bows are Kodiak k series, at 56 lb. I also have a Polar at 49 lb. Which one of the 2 Grizzlies do you prefer?
Bearpaw creed or this bow is better ?
Also the Test of time will tell us if the 2022 model with its build differences holds up like the Legend.
What is the length of the string on the 2022?

@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 That seems very long.. I had to shorten my string to 53" on my 2022. The strings seem to be all different lengths from the factory. Fred not being around over seeing the production seems to have lapsed a little in the string department. The bow itself is very good all round. Now I have the string the correct length it is not twating my wrist. 58"? .. How is it so different from mine being at 53"? ... how can that be explained being the same bow from the same factory and the same year?
Nope the from 1964 until 1973 the Bear Grizzly came in either a 56 in amo or a 58 inch amo.. Actual string length will be 4 Inches shorter than AMO. The new model grizzly takes a 58 inch amo or 54inch actual string and it has to be a B55 not a fast flight unless it is the super grizzly
@@allthingsarcheryandshootin9380 So your string is NOT 58" it is 54".. I have my string at 53" with the measurement from the string to the arrow rest is at a dead on 7" That seems to be right on the money looking at it or is that wrong? the string being 54" was just to close to the bow.
