  • The bucket mute is the third most important mute I’ve needed to own. Now, there can be other mutes you may need before a bucket depending on the music you play but for me, the bucket came up third after the straight and cup, respectively.
Best sounding mute is the H&B.
Jo-Ral is next for me. A problem with this one is it can get heavy after a while.
Easiest to use is the Softone neoprene mute which is also the easiest to tuck away until needed.
    Bucket mutes:
    Humes and Berg
    Jo-Ral
    Finch Mutes
    Softone Neoprene Mute
    EZ Bucket

My Jo-Ral "bucket" has never been as fulfilling as I had hoped.

It’s the daily carry mute I always have.

I mean, if you want a jo-ral type bass mute there are bass bone specific ones, I have one and it’s not bad at all

I had one for Bass bone back in the 90’s but it was rather heavy and the metal was too thin so it would get bent up in my bag. The opening would become an oval making it slip out too easily so I went back to H&B. I don’t play enough bass anymore to need a better solution but I do see Jo-Ral made improvements to that original design.
