I use my plastic one for big band section work and the leather one for combo work.

I just ordered the leather Eazy Bucket. I think it will help in an acting audition setting where I have to sing and play. Oftentimes in the audition room the trumpet is just so much louder than the voice, so this will hopefully help even that out. Thank you so much for the video, it was very informative!

Great, I'm sure you'll enjoy it - it's my favorite bucket mute!! I'm glad you found my video helpful! 🙏🙏

Thanks for a great video. The section examples really showed the differences more clearly than the standard examples (and you sounded great on them too). I have previously read comments by Tim Wendt that the picc mute is a lifesaver for certain musicals, and your video backs that up.

Love hearing it in the context of a section!

Thanks! Yeah, me too. It was very cool when I got it edited together, it really is the best way to compare mutes. It just adds a few extra hours to the process..

Love using the original Eazy Bucket (plastic one) and the practice EZ mute. They are my go to mutes! I recorded with the Black one and highly recommend it. The guys in the big band will all ask me to try them.

I really love the quality of your videos! Requires passion and dedication! Also very helpful for people like me who are students and don't know how to wisely buy the first mutes. Thanks

I just watched the video about the 7 mutes to have as a young player. I am surprised, seeing the quality of your videos, that the views aren't there 👀

Thanks! Glad you dig the channel. I really just started getting serious with the channel in the last 6 months ... hopefully I can keep growing and get some momentum! I've got a lot of vids planned for 2021.

The plastic one preserves a more classical "trumpety" sound, taking the edge off but still with a touch of bright resonance. The leather one approximates a soft, pillowy trombone sound. More intimate and nuanced. You seem to naturally respond to this difference in your playing. I hear more phrasing, dynamics and shading of the tone color in your playing with the leather mute. I agree with Geoff that the plastic would be more appropriate for ensemble work, and leather for solo/combo, (plus the leather looks handsome on a soloist)!

Thanks for checking out the vid and commenting! I was drawn a bit more to the leather one, def more my style for solo stuff. Really, both are great.

Great demo, Josh! I like the sound of both Bb/C mutes, but would worry the softer sound would be a bit too muffled for big band section work. Would be great for solo work, though I think you’d need to be mic’d for it to be audible to most audiences. Thanks for the great video!

Thanks!! The leather one is my current go-to for solo work with bucket, the plastic one is great for big band. Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra uses them for section work and they sound terrific with them - but a mic would not be a bad idea.

Was wondering if the leather was much heavier then the plastic.?..

I just weighed them, the plastic one is 112 grams, the leather one is 143 grams. For comparison, a Denis Wick Aluminum Straight weighs in at 62 grams and a Humes and Berg Bucket is 124 grams.
