The baby in the background was music to my heart 💜. Thanks for the great info 🌈
THANK YOU! I’ve been terrified of this happening to my chickens. I still pray it never happens but if it were to at least I have a guideline to go by. God bless you Amy!!
Omg so happy about this! My chicken doesn’t have it and I always check them! Making sure there cleaning themself good! Plus I use wood ash! Never seen them dust bath Thur. Now I can keep a look out and know what to do! This winter I always give them garlic, honey with Apple cider in there water! They love this! Now I know what to do in case! Thank u so much Amy!!
The only time I had a mite problem was from a bail of STRAW! Biggest truth!! I have never had to deal with lice.
One thing that helped prevent any problems: I put the trims from my Rosemary plant under their shavings in their nests.
I also treated with an herbal spray as you described.
Thanks for a great video!
We have stick tight fleas and got them after using a bail of straw from TC. It was our first time with bugs and first time using straw from there.
The spray sounds great! We’ve had chickens over two years and thankfully we have not had this issue but I try to educate myself on these topics so I’m not left scrambling when I’m faced with new issues. We use an Amish recipe of hydrated lime wash in our coop and roost. It doesn’t allow anything to harbor in the wood. I applied it once at the very beginning. I’m getting ready to do our first deep clean, and I’m going redo the whitewash even though it’s still in good condition. I think it is an amazing addition. I will never be without it.
would you mind sharing the Amish recipe?
My girls (9) have a HUGE dusting area on the farm. Our kitties (11) use the dust spot too!! They also love our burn area where they find wood ash.
But you know, Woodash is what you soak to get lye. I never heard of using Woodash before today for this purpose. I just know that you soak Woodash in water and you get lye to make soap and it can burn you because it’s caustic. I would think if a chicken has it on their skin and they get wet it could be caustic. Just a thought.
Wood ash is really awesome way to eliminate mites
Thank you. I BEEN studying parasites for a few years. I appreciate your time and your knowledge...
This has been a very educational video because it concurs with what I'm looking into.
Thank you sooooo much much! I’ve been fining little red spider mites. Your video helped me so much!
I’ve never pulled my eggs after using ivermectin.. we use the same treatment on ourselves regularly anyway. Not my favourite parasitic treatment but it does work. We have recently run out though and I’m using other options.
I am still so confused about mites, never seen anything that resembles that, but I do deal with lice here and there!
By the way your baby singing in the background is adorable 🥰
Thank you for sharing this solution. One of our girls has a bad case of lice and we will try this. Blessings...
I love the sound of the baby in the background made my day 😀
Thanks for the info on the natural treatment. However, not everyone has access to the essential oils you listed. So would using only the garlic and cinnamon still work along with the deep cleaning of the coops often as well as using wood ash? Or do we must have the oils?
Hi, I look after quite a lot of ex commercial hens and other adopted chickens, including a poland boy, who had always been susceptible to lice, and he was always the first one I checked, and the most regularly ((for lice) they used to be treated btw with veg oil and a couple of drops of oil of oregano mixed in, and then gently brushed with a soft toothbrush or similar, onto affected area, and this would rid my chooks of the lice). I think through curing a chick, nearly 2 years ago, of severe curly toes (naturally), with food alone, the main ingredient being hard boiled eggs, I started feeding the chooks' eggs back to them every day, or as much as possible ... and now there is not a single louse on Roddy, or any of the other chickens! My chooks teach me a lot, and I'm certainly not as ignorant as I was 2 years ago!!
Feeding eggs to your chickens rid them of mites?
Oh thank you!!
New to keeping chickens.
They haven't started laying yet but they should any day now. I've been terrified of the knights and the lights so neem oil on the whole thing and and now I'm put lavender and rosemary branches in there under the wood shavings for their nesting boxes. Can you put diatomaceous earth on their roosting bars.
But I finally was able to buy your book and it should be coming next week I'm very excited.
Thank you for all you share!!
Baby in the background is precious.
I am looking for a preventative treatment for scalely leg mites also.
I just saw this video , and I recently purchased some chicken 🐓 so wld like to make this as precaution ,,
Thank you , this was the best information about mites so far.
Wow you even have a book..Cool video I took notes thank you
You can add diatomaceous earth to the wood ash they both work together
thank you this was very helpful!
our sweet girls got mites and we lost one before realizing what was wrong. this was over 8 years ago. We've learned SOOOO much since then. Problem is, it's been years and we still have mites. We have to poof them with DE every week or 2. It's in their coop. But we've never been fully mite free. I HATE them 😢
You might get some lime and do a lime wash paint. Lime is cheap. I tore my coop apart and cleaned it but I’m going to do a lime wash next.
Thank you so very much
Can i use leftover sprays for next treatment or do i have to make fresh solution each time? How long can I keep using the same solution?
Thank a lot for your information I will copy your ideas to help my chickens in the future I don't need it now but I will start preventing from getting mites
Great info! I bought your book on amazon today, and I thank you for a new and helpful book to assist me in raising my chickens. One question, can I use this garlic and essential oil spray on 3 week old chicks? I didn’t see an age to use it on in the book, so I wasn’t sure.
yes, you can! But fairly unlikely they would have it so early.
Thank you for your reply!! I had them outside in the grass for a few hours this past few days, and they’ve been scratching a lot ever since. I wanted to have a game plan just in case. Thank you again for replying, and your book is fantastic!
I have used cider sawdust in and around the coop for years and never had this problem so far I like the spray you talked about I will make some. I also use PVC for the perch no bugs there.
and I have their dust baths.
pvc the one for building?
I was told chickens shouldn’t have cedar bedding it messes up there airway
Loved background music🙉
Thank you so much 💓 I will try this , God bless you🙏💞
Ugh, I’ve had mites for months, and around the time I first got them I had a brand new baby and my husband is rarely home because of work so giving the chickens the time I, and they, need to treat the mites has been really difficult.
Thank you for this advice, I will be giving it a go and will let you know :)
Great tips thank you
I haven’t seen any mites or lice on my hens but they most of them are molting and covered in dandruff. Could this still be signs of lice? Several of the hens have not obvious bare bottoms. Saddle feathers are gone even though I don’t have any mating roosters. Do I need a magnifier glass to see any critters that may be lurking?
Thank you! Making plans for our first flock this Spring...great info to have in our back pocket😊🐓
This was great, thanks, been searching for "how can you get scabies twice" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Norahan Stopping Scabies Process - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some interesting things about it and my co-worker got great results with it.
Thank you so very much!! Plan to follow what you say!!
Thanks heaps im going to try that soon
Thanks for your knowledge hope it eliminates all of them
Hi , the video is amazing and very helpful , thankyou . i have one question, the vinegar , here in the uk we have white, and then we have distilled white , which one would it be , normally when making household cleaner i use distilled white .
either is fine
Thanks for recipe
Very much appreciated- thanks for this ❤
Straw is notorious for harboring mites. They burrow in the hollow pasty of the straw. Can you also add some garlic powder in the dusting area?
Cathleen Caratan Moses you could!!
Please help me I also need information of red mites in chicken 🐔
Thank you. Good info
This is wonderful. I’m a doterra girl 💜 Can this spray be used as a preventative on 2 1/2 week old chicks?
How many water ?
So how do you use the garlic in the watered? Garlic mashed up? Drop a few pieces of cut up garlic in the water? Or just feed them the garlic?
Great content. Thank you x
I know this is an old post, but wanted to let you know I'm going to try your spray recipe and put your book on my birthday list. I'll add lots of garlic to my new garden too. If chickens eat lots of garlic will that affect egg flavor?
It definitely can. Same with onions, same with fish.
I may have missed it but, does it matter what kind of essential oil one uses for the spray? Thank you for another great vid.
Joni Deputy It’s best to use therapeutic grade oils rather than scented ones for the home.

That’s why I use Pineneedles that come off my property to bed my chickens. So far I have no problems with mites or lice. That is not to say that I won’t have a problem of some sort, but the pine deters them. I’ve also stripped some cedar branches that were cut off and use cedar fluff… not Cedar, bark, or Cedarwood… The actual greenery of the cedar. I did not use those for little chickens, but for a full grown adults in their coop. I keep checking my chickens, butts and necks all the time but I never see any sign.
I bought your book.
Thank you so much! 🙏🏼💗✌️
I've had chicken with red mites and the commercial spray works but it's harsh. Diatomaceous Earth is ok but....honestly wood ash is way better that DE. Lice I have not had experience with and knock on wood I do not ever. Poor chickens that deal with that. Unbelievable that mites came from a bale of straw. Yikes. Double sided sticky tape on the ends of your roosting bars are a way to "collect" mites each night. Put new tape on every day until no more mites. Burn tape with mites...that was from an awesome video
How much water, Amy? Please and thank you. Also, how much will this recipe make?

My chickens have a dirt and wood chip run . What do you put on the run?
Thanks for all the info. How do you prevent them from getting on yourself. Or in your hair?
Wear a shower cap. Rub coconut oil on your skin? Take clothes off before going inside.
Please show us how you make it. Thanks

Hey Amy, does this spray solution smell too bad or strong for spraying inside a home? Thanks, very interesting. 👍🏼😊
I’ve got an unusual situation. We “inherited” a free roaming chicken when we bought a house. We’ve fed it and given it fresh water. We heard it has been around for approximately three or four years. She roosts up in our lemon tree every night. She started looking sick , skinny and wouldn’t roam outside of a small garden area around the lemon tree. I noticed her feathers around her neck had fallen out and her “crown?” was pale and her face just looks different plus she must be weak , she sits around a lot. She’s eating less but drinking water. I bought food grade diatomaceous earth, probiotics and Pure Planet Poultry Spray. Do I treat her and my little garden since she has no coop? I fee so sad for her and really want to help. I’m also gonna have to do all that by myself. I need advice, quick! 😢
I've heard the blood sucking mites can cause your chicken to become anemic and die.
@@MoiNokaOi they most definitely can. the comb goes very pale when this happens.
The spray was easy to make and I believe it will work wonders. How are you straining the garlic out of the mix so that it can go through a sprayer? Are you making garlic water well a head of when you intend to spray it?
The garlic keeps clogging all the sprayers I have tried. I have strained it but I am still struggling. I wondered how you handled this little problem?
I was thinking about this myself. I wonder if putting the garlic mash and any herbs in a cheesecloth tied bundle before shoving it into the spray bottle would work. I think so? I haven't tried it yet, but I like the recipe, seems also good scents to keep away other vermin ;-).
What is the recipe to get rid of mite and lice ? Making the spray

how to deal with chicken mites on humans?please help. it's bothering my family.😢
Thank you!!!!
Do you think this recipe will also work for depluming mites as well as red mites?
hello can i put the garlic in the Homemade tallow Suet Cake that i make for my girls and if so what else can i put in the suet to help get rid of the mite ty
Would you say it is more effective than diatomaceous earth as well? I'm trying to avoid using DE.
So would you recommend spraying everyday for 2 weeks during a lice infestation? And clean the coop out how often... maybe twice during this time?
Just put your book into my Amazon cart
Can these oils be purchased at yr local Walmart , or a health store ,
"Mites are from the devil"
Amen to that!
4:44 what did put it there? What do you call it?
Will the eggs not taste like garlic if you feed them garlic?
Thank you
Hey , I have just done the spray bottle but I’ve only used garlic , is this okay ??
Have it helped?
@@irmaservaite4127it did help!
gosh im having that challenge, cleaned my coop last week thinking itll get rid of gosh, that day i never slept had em crawling all over my skin
Wow, you have a beautiful flock!!!!! I could look at that part of the video over and over!
Does this recipe kill red mites also?
Does it have to be a glass bottle spray
Essential oils will eat through plastic.
Something that works really well for mites it's called byemite. Depending on where you live you might find it under other brand names but that main ingredient in it it's called Phoxim. But be careful chickens can't get in contact with it.
Can i use this in my house? My cats are bringing the mites in the house
you can!
How much water should be added to your lice mixture?

All these contents are hard to find, i used deltamethrin on the chicken feathers and put the nesting box in sun for several days with deltamethrin, it helped a lot
What is the kind that chews their neck feathers? Anyone know or who to do to get rid of them. I’ve used the powders, medicated twice. Nothing helps.
I can Google this but I wish u would have showed what they look like....I didn't know anything about either...we have had chickens for many years, what happens if we have them and don't even know about it....how can u tell?
Vivian it’s actually really hard to show them on camera without getting them all over the camera. You would definitely see them if you did an inspection on your chickens. Look on their bellies on the skin, around their vents, and on the back of their necks. You’ll see creepy crawlies for sure
Can you treat baby chicks too
Can you please help me? Pls what to spray to let the mites and lices die? My chicken is infected. I don't want to dust it. How???????
I think mine got it from straw too! :(
I don’t have any Melissa because of the cost . Do you think that would make this leas effective?
no, you should be fine as long as you have the garlic
If were picking up wood chips as our run bedding is that safe? Its from a local tree service but has been outside?
Will this likely bring about problems for my new chickens?
If the wood chips are fresh and damp and in a confined area without proper ventilation or sun you could have a problem with mould spores. Mould spores can be deadly for chicken respiratory systems. Old dry wood chips should be fine. And they won't bring in mites unless there has been a flock of infested wild birds living in them (not likely lol).
New subscriber here 🙋🏻♀️💗
Where do you get all these essential oils from? Thank you.
I get mine from Revive Essential Oils
Melissa oil is expensive! Do I have to use that?
Nope! You can omit that
Order cedar oil in the bulk from Dr. Bens.
Won't there be any side effects if they are laying??
Does mites or lices jump? (bird mites)
I would like to know the same thing🤷
Yes they do cause when mine was infected from new chickens I found them on myself
What can you do if your chickens are not tame enough to pick up to use your recipe?
I get ahold of flighty birds when they are up on the perch at night.
They don't seem to see well in dim light.
Especially to catch the rooster.
@@MoiNokaOi Thank you.
i really hope this work for bedbugs too.... im so stressed lol
We use hemp bedding because it is bug resistant.
Where can you get hemp bedding ???
Amy, did you use Elector psp?
Im 3 years late watching your video. We have a huge infestation. They jump on us when we clean the coop. By the way, we clean the coop daily.
I am devastated by this infestation.
A friend told me cedarwood essential oil paralyses their mouths, ultimately leading to death. Have you heard or tried this?
I grow a heck of a lot of herbs, and use them in the coop daily.
Peppermint, catnip, wormwood, lavender, chamomile, artemisia-annua, rosemary, thyme, lemon balm and tansy. I haven't included garlic and will do so from now on.
Im desperate, can you help answer my questions? Thank you
Did you get your problem solved?
@floridahomesteader7983 Yes, thank you for asking. Ordered it and it is soooooo expensive. It worked and will keep a very close eye on it, so it doesn't get like that again.
@@anerawewillneverforget I’m so glad it worked for you!! So was it the Elector PSP or the Cedarwood oil?
@@floridahomesteader7983 Elector psp, and also used cedarwood.
I'm growing a heck of a lot of herbs for the coop. Wormwood, lavender, catnip, chamomile, rose geranium, rosemary, sage, peppermint & spearmint. Snipped into little bits and dried.
