This is my reaction to Depeche Mode Useless. This is also my first watching Useless, Depeche Mode Ultra Album 1997 Reaction

One of my all time favorite DM songs. That distorted guitar riff with drum line and vocals is so fire.
This is my favorite track off of Ultra, for some reason this one really sticks out for me . The U on the taxi is for the album name, Ultra.
They recorded this album while Dave was recovering from his near fatal overdose. He was in terrible shape at the beginning of recording the album. He got healthier as time went on.
Yep. I remember that they chose not to tour for this album (Ultra). Probably had lots of pressure to-think about how much money they make on tour (I saw them back in April, our “cheap” seats were nearly $300/ticket!-but they made the best decision for Dave’s health, and therefore their long-term success. I admire him for being among the few to successfully regain his life and recover from heroin addiction. He’s been clean now for about 25 years. It’s too bad Alan Wilder ducked out when Dave went off the rails (and chose not to come back), but I’m glad the others kept going, even after Fletch’s death.
When Depeche has an attitude, it's the best attitude!
4:44 always makes me laugh from Martin's overly serious, slightly angry looking face mixed with the buzzcut and his funny little movement he's doing, not to mention his gigantic guitar haha

Its probably my favorite post-Alan track. Really great track. And defintely my fav on Ultra.
Everyone probably has the same reaction to the very end of the video: “OOOHH! He’s singing this message to a woman!” The entire video built up to that moment. I agree with your interpretation. Dave’s sings that all my advice to this woman has been useless and that she has unrealistic ideals. She needs to come back down to earth and have reasonable expectations.
One of the best songs on Ultra. Especially the Kruder & Dorfmeister remix of it.

Note that album version of this track is less rockier and is more calm with beatifull electronic sound effect.
This is a point where Dave was freshly recovered from drug addiction and staying clean till today. In this time he met his current wife Jen that keeps his life in a balance. Dave's life has significantly improved and started the family . BTW Dave keeping this short hair look till today.

Don't worry. Martin's hair does come back. His hair in Ghosts is a Mohawk and is shorter/thinner. His hair is thinning as he ages.

This music video was filmed quite after Dave was pronounced dead for 2 minutes from a drug overdose. Following that he tried to get back in track and fortunately became healthy and fresh looking as seen in this video
This is the single version, album version is a bit quieter with more atmosphere. Both are great.
This song grew on me this only this year despite knowing about it for years and being a Depeche fan since 2016
If it's true that the lyrics are about Alan, then those were very harsh words for their former bandmate who helped them achieve their signature sound...
Little known fact, ZZ Top attended a mid 80s DM concert. They were so moved by it, their next albumn featured drum machines and synths.
I cant help but to think this was DM's way of sending a tribute back.

(All of your followers know him, believe me) BTW, you are currently too impressed by the videos. Your first 50th reactions from the 80s got without videos and are so great. (except Baby-Mode). I love your channel and watch every day until finally a new Video of you is released by YT. (Currently 36parts not avaiable. I´m from the south-west of Germany. It´s sucks)

Feels like I always come across as a mood breaker by often telling that the song isn't that good - as everyone else puts it...
This is an average Depeche song for me. Not bad, but not a "banger". There are worse Depeche songs but definitely many better ones too.
"Ultra" as a whole becomes a bit of that sort for me, not bad, but lacking the songs with that little extra that previous records have had.
- But I would probably say that the favorite song/songs for me on this record remain.
Dave here was already after his clinical death, he got rid of drugs at this point i think, that is why he looks much better... Martin had the biggest troubles during Exciter era, he got divorced and he was drinking very heavily ://
Actually, Mart got divorced later. His son was born during the Exciter era.

Dieses Video gefällt mir sehr, vor allem das Ende. Ich hatte es ein Weile nicht mehr gesehen und musste auch schmunzeln. Ja, Dave erholte sich im Laufe des Jahres 1997 und sah zunehmend gesünder und besser aus. Was Martin betrifft: ich hatte ihn weder vor, noch nach diesem Video je mit abrasierten Haaren gesehen...zum Glück, denn ich mag seine Locken.
