Not just long hair. The darkest but at the same time the most exciting period of DM has begun. Dave started taking heavy drugs, almost died several times and once really - clinical death. Under the influence, he himself believed that he was a vampire. The prestigious magazine called this tour "The Moust Debauched rock tour ever" This tour lasted more than two years, Fletch ended up on antidepressants, Alan finally left the band...

    • @rnkmode1876

Which makes it more amazing how Dave could perform so well at that time too. With his habit in full force.

This is the pinacle of their live touring career. This is DM at their best, with drug fueled Dave, Alan playing live drums, Martin just killing it every night on the guitar. This tour was called one of the most debauched tours in history. Dave almost died, Martin had seizures, Andy had a nervous breakdown and it made Alan quit the band. For the second leg of the tour, called the Exotic Tour, they toned down the set because it was so expensive to drag all over the world.

The best period of Depeche Mode, sadley the darkest as well. Mixed feelings - Dave on drugs (his eyes reveals how high he is on stage) Alan will leave the band after the tour, Andy had a nervous breakdown, Martin was an alcoholic.
Two years of touring didn't make it better - Nearly the end of the band

It is not i feel you at the beginning… its just a intro with thunder😊
I was 21 at this time, remeber myself how shocked we all was about the new look😅
No internet, no information… just go to a concert by having no clue what you will see there. This was the best time ever because of that😎

It's the Swamp Mix of I Feel You mixed in at the beginning of Higher Love, that's where the rain, lighting and thunder sound is from. I Feel You also starts wth the Swamp Mix of I Feel You but it's a lil further in with just the rain then the album version kicks in.

Once again, thank you Seph for your wonderful reaction. By now Seph is aware of my love for DM and this song and album. Thursday 9/23/1993 was the night that changed my life forever. I'm about to turn 16 and my 20 year old sister got us 2nd row seats at MSG in NYC to see this tour. It was absolutely magical. And no other reactor has given this group their respect and time like you have. Taking the time to listen to every album and song in chronological order plus the live performances to go along with them. You're golden Seph keep up the amazing work.

I checked out this concert not long after watching “One Night in Paris,” and needless to say, those two concerts sparked my interest in Depeche Mode’s concert works on film. However, there’s something about THIS concert film that keeps on bringing me back, and whether it’s this opening excerpt or the show at large, I can’t tell. But it’s just freaking incredible from start to finish, especially considering what the band had gone through the year they did this tour.

After the record for the Album, Alan spend 3 month of his time to do some new live versions of the setlist.
The rest of the Band was in vacation in this time😎
One of some more reasons to left the band after 2 years live performance of devotional tour.
Anyway, listen to World in my eyes, then walking in my shoes, then the new version of behind the wheel and and and…
Live version of i feel you was never that good like here…

What a way to open the show with the curtain and the anticipation. The transformation in all ways after Violator was unreal! I LOVE Higher Love but it's even better here. I have been to every tour since Violator... EXCEPT this one. As fortunate as I feel to have seen them live so many times, there's always that regret that I couldn't go to this one.

I lose it every time when Dave and Martin harmonize together in the modulated third verse. "I surrender heart and soul, sacrifice to a higher goal..." (7:01) So friggin' powerful.
And of course Dave's obligatory bum wiggling and pelvic thrusting. (8:24)
This was such a bold choice for the show opener and the effect was epic.

I had the privilege of seeing them live 6 times on this tour, in three different countries. Although the whole Songs Of Faith And Devotion period took its toll on the band in many negative ways, you can't argue with the fact that they were at their peak as performers. The atmosphere during the Devotional concerts was on a whole other level.

  • @FredrikAndersson597
    @FredrikAndersson597 ปีที่แล้ว +2

This tour symbolizes Depeche when they were at the peak of their career and at the peak of popularity.
They certainly fill the stage even today, but probably mostly because of "old merits" from the band's heyday - often referred to in the years 1986-1994, from the Black Celebration record to the end of the Devotional tour.
Even Dave was at his best here in terms of stage presence - despite his personal problems with drugs.
The tour was Alan Wilder's last appearance with the group.

Imagine, back in the day, you've barely heard anything from DM for three years, and then the first single and video drops...and the frist thing you see is Dave with long hair. Shocked? Hell yeah! This was Dave in his "LA hippy druggy phase." He left England behind, moved to Los Angelas and married an American junky. He also got heavy into the rock scene, seeing bands like Jane's Addiction and Rage Against the Machine, which is partly why SOFAD came out the way it did. But yeah, this tour was their absolute pinnacle. It also barely made any money upfront because it was so expensive to stage, which is another reason they extended it with the Exotic Tour in '94.

Dave was a junkie at this point.. Martin was hitting the bottle, Fletch was depressed (what tha fuck was he depressed for?? .. He had the best seat in the house and got paid to clap) Alan however (the master mind of sound and production) felt unappreciated... As I said before Martin may have wrote the songs but it was Alan Wilder that breathed LIFE into them

Fletch I believe if memory serves suffered from severe OCD after his sister passing away from cancer...things were pretty rough for him personally ...at the time ...

Depeche Mode could have been something of another order if they had just stuck out 93-95...their musical direction, thanks to Alan, was so interesting and organic and imaginative. We got a GLIMPSE of what they could have been with Ultra, but after that...they were good but not great :/

Mate, he’s got an average baritone voice, listen to John Farnham. I need to add that I am a huge Depeche Mode fan. You don’t have to have the best voice in the world all the best guitarist in the world to write great songs. I’m a singer songwriter and have been for 30 years. I enjoy a great range of music I just thought I would point that out it’s like every time people watch Eddie Van Halen for the first time they think he’s the greatest guitarist that ever lived which is just not true.

Bob Dylan and buddy holly both had nearly monotone 1 octave voices. But they had the songs to go with their distinctive voices which made them super famous and adored the world over!
Then you have Singers who have AMAZING vocal ranges 4+ octave's who you have never heard of. Technically these singers have far far faaaar better voices and much more impressive then Bob and Buddy, But they lack "SOMETHING"
That "SOMETHING" is what Dave has. Without that he wouldnt have been known either
