I planning to put a twin turbo kit and a camshaft on my truck that should produce about 800 hp .the transmission is stock it only has a transmission cooler do you think it will run fine or should I upgrade it if yes what should I do please?
Your Turbo system design, how the car is tuned and fueled will play a huge role in Transmission reliability, at 800 RWHP the trans should be built with all the latest technology and parts. we can help you with this by calling 203-753-7223
If a trans has failed we recommend a new radiator as trash from the failed trans will clog the cooler. never bypass the radiator but you can add an additional cooler, installation orientation distance from radiator, placement, and line routing are all critical, you typically only need a aux cooler if running aftermarket higher stall converter.
what's your opinion on a trans cooler with a added fan(s) for additional cooling abilities. I've done some research on air flow on my g8 and there's a large inflow of air around the spare tire tub around or under 75°+ @ 40-80 mph depending upon outside temps and pavement temps
If you are seeing a trans temp issue that is an indication of a possible problem with the radiator or the trans itself that needs to be investigated, Normal operating temps should closely follow engine temps, under normal driving, when sitting in traffic with your foot on the brake in gear, backing up a hill, or pulling a trailer is when you will see higher temps, we don't get worried until 250 Degrees or higher for extended periods. Adding a cooler is only required when adding an aftermarket higher stall converter, or setting up for trailering. we never add one to cover up an existing problem.
why would you go through the radiator that stay at 200 degress and I have literally never saw a trans cooler that has inlets nd outlets like your saying.
Because the trans cooler is located on the cold side of the Radiator, It is never 200 Degrees,, there is also a such thing as running a Transmission too cold which can also be detrimental. All trans coolers have inlets and outlets just a matter of rotation when mounting to put the inlets and outlets in best orientation.

When racing at this power level it is normal to remove the trans and freshen it on a regular basis, Gearing plays a huge roll in how much torque the trans will hold, the lower the gearing like 4.10 or 4.56 the more torque the trans will take as the gear takes the load off the trans. yep so how much is the main upgrades for a stock GM 6L80E to make it last longer, especially if your going to put a external trans cooler and Circle D stock torque convertor, just to use better quality parts and also is it worth upgrading to the 6L90E driveshaft and other extras for say a 2015 chevy ss, just so it last longer also i believe the biggest problems with auto transmissions is heat, the more heat the fluid gets the more damage, so a external trans cooler is the best insurance( especially thermostat controlled fluid release so around the 80 to 90 degree c mark, basically based of the radiator coolant temps) as long as your not racing and you have way over the top hp at the rear wheels its like anything service the auto and engine oils and she will look after you, but in saying that if a stock unit can handle 650hp at the rear tyres, the Auto TCM to ECU tune is so vital, because its a learning computer based on how the car is driven?

@@thomasstott527 The video is about how much a 6l80 can handle stock, and it is an accurate figure, We build 6L80E in house, we have all the best parts available, we did all the development work back in 2012 and continue it today, The Length of the case and it's clutch drums are a limiting factor so It will work for a while depending on how the vehicle is used, Many Many people have 1000 HP but never use it, I would never recommend a 6L80 for a 1000 HP build, we would start with a 6l90 and build it, the 6l90 is longer and can fit more clutches, the billet parts are totally unnecessary at your power level regardless of weight. I appreciate you wanting to school me on Transmissions but you are preaching to the teacher.
@@JANNETTYRACING with that being said a 6000 lb suv....with a 33 inch tall tire puts a lot more abuse on FACTORY parts... so billet parts in my case may be over kill... as I may decide to up boost in the future... only want to do it once ... as the teacher reference.... we have all been to school... and have all been " misinformed " by a "teacher" ... good luck with your trans builds...
@@JANNETTYRACING but could I get a 600 hp on a stick transmission?
@@xmushiix6826 That will depend on current wear and who tunes it.
Don't suppose you have any contacts here in Australia that can do this? tune, advise and upgrade the 6L80e
I am sorry I don't have any affiliates in Australia. I can remote tune via email.
Does the transmission have an operating temp it is happy at or can you run an oversized cooler with no bypass?
If a trans has failed we recommend a new radiator as trash from the failed trans will clog the cooler. never bypass the radiator but you can add an additional cooler, installation orientation distance from radiator, placement, and line routing are all critical, you typically only need a aux cooler if running aftermarket higher stall converter.
@@JANNETTYRACING I asked poorly. What I meant to ask: can you have too effective cooling?
@@owen8098 Yes you can. Trans has a normal operating temp of 180 to 220
What would be required to add this transmission to a 04 Silverado SS?
an aftermarket transmission controller.
what's your opinion on a trans cooler with a added fan(s) for additional cooling abilities.
I have a question? Is there any difference between tbe GEN IV LS 6l80e & GEN V 6l80es? I have a 2015 Gen V engine & the 6 speed is slipping & curious to know can a 2012 6l80e replace it?
As far as we know 2010-2015 6L80E are the same, although the TCM is very different and can not be used.
So what I get from this if I keep my car stock and don’t drive it hard I won’t get problems that I hear about all the time because I have heard many stories about these transmissions giving problems
Servicing your trans fluid and filter along with proper fill level will give the longest lift check out our Dipstick tube kits for the 6L80E that don't have one. jannettyracing.com/products/jre-dipstick-and-tube-kit-6l80e-6l90e
JANNETTYRACING my last car had a 4L80E everyone said they are stuffed at 200,000 Kay’s mine had 318,000 Kay’s on it and it was was still going strong although i towed a caravan at times it was still going strong when the car was written off I always checked the fluids and serviced it but I never drove the car too hard or did burn outs like most people do

Is it possible to get the tuning right on the ecm side with the ecm on speed density?
yes sir it is.
I don't know personally I got 360,000 miles out of my transmission in the last 100,000 of that was with the torque management turned off shifting at 7200 RPM 100% line pressure all the time bypass the bleed off valve ignoring output shaft speed. I will say the one problem I did have.it love to blow out that f****** tell shaft seal and bushing. I did not mess with tow haul mode so most of the time I drove it in tow haul and then when the occasion arrived POS running the quarter and 12.99 imagine if the b**** didn't have a flatbed on it
This transmission could be used with a GM 6.5?
As long as you have a transmission control unit that will run it.
So I have a 2009 Silverado I have a 6.0/4l80 to swap into it. Multiple guys have roasted me on swapping in the 4l80 because they say the 6l80 will hold the power, so is it possible for a 6l80 to hold 1000hp in a crew cab truck doing boosted launches?
When racing at this power level it is normal to remove the trans and freshen it on a regular basis, Gearing plays a huge roll in how much torque the trans will hold, the lower the gearing like 4.10 or 4.56 the more torque the trans will take as the gear takes the load off the trans. We have been 950 Crank HP for full drag seasons on our trans in 4400 lb cars and we have a Denali pickup with a Built 427 Whipple combo 850 plus, that has over 50,000 miles on it
JANNETTYRACING built lots of different transmissions I’m sure I can do it, the tuning is the problem. I’m sure I can just buy all the trans parts from you guys. I’m a few states away, anyway to send trans tuning over for my truck before I take the leap this winter. Collecting all the stuff for my build currently. Have most of my engine stuff besides the turbo and was about to tear into and build the 4l80. But if there is a way to get my trans tuned without coming all the way there I’d drop the 4l80 idea
@@francisspytma813 As I mention in my video the Trans tune is linked to the engine tune so they must be done together, there are a lot of things we do inside the trans that goes way beyond a parts list.
JANNETTYRACING 4l80 swap it is! Thanks for the info!
What’s price on a 4l80 if I was to buy one from u
A transmission is not a fits all part off the shelf, each one is specific to its intended use, and Power level, you will also likely need a torque converter to go with it, please call for an estimate 203-753-7223
I have a 72 chevelle currently deciding on which LS engine to build Ls3 with mild cam. Or Lsx 427. Car is going to be a fun Cruiser with plenty of power. 4l80 will be easiest since there are electronic trans controllers readily available, I would be happy to help you with your parts we carry everything as the largest speed shop in the north east 203-753-7223
Will a 6l80e/6l90e bolt directly to my 99 4l8e 4x4 transfer case or will I need to to with another transfer case?
We do not do swaps so you would have to do your own research, The 6L80 E was available in 4x4 trucks and all wheel drive Denali and Escalade.

What is your state? I’m in NY. I put a new torque converter, I use a delete AFM to protect my new torque converter. My shop put a new raybestos rebuild kit. Tranny is working fine but you call to my attention about calibrations. TCM looks like a learning process is done because is shifting smother than the first day that I pulled from the shop.
Can we talk about a custom remote tune? I've had multiple people tune it, and none touched the actual engine torque values. I have done that recently, but shifting is still too rough. It's a custom 550hp LSX454 in a G8. Also have dyno numbers.

So are you saying that doing a 6l80 on a stand alone system is doomed?
I don't see where I said that. that is a different subject.
@@JANNETTYRACING no you didn’t say that in so many words, but it’s implied by your saying that it requires tq reduction from the motor, if that’s required and it’s a stand alone system….🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
@@jimfryar1 Like I said stand alones are an entirely different conversation. also really depends on power level, Most of the Holley systems that can control the 6L80 should be able to provide torque reduction for shift but that is up to the tuner.

Yes sir.
Whats the best stand alone TCU,, for 6L80e bear in mind the motor has NO computer at all, it runs dizzy and carby, and it will; be making some serious HP street driven strip car Regards Eddie Australia
I am sorry we have no first hand experience with stand alone TCMs so I can not make an honest recommendation.
yep so how much is the main upgrades for a stock GM 6L80E to make it last longer, especially if your going to put a external trans cooler and Circle D stock torque convertor, just to use better quality parts and also is it worth upgrading to the 6L90E driveshaft and other extras for say a 2015 chevy ss, just so it last longer also i believe the biggest problems with auto transmissions is heat, the more heat the fluid gets the more damage, so a external trans cooler is the best insurance( especially thermostat controlled fluid release so around the 80 to 90 degree c mark, basically based of the radiator coolant temps) as long as your not racing and you have way over the top hp at the rear wheels its like anything service the auto and engine oils and she will look after you, but in saying that if a stock unit can handle 650hp at the rear tyres, the Auto TCM to ECU tune is so vital, because its a learning computer based on how the car is driven?
