It was a pleasure to meet you, Jonathan. Thank you for the tour of your shop and your project builds. I look forward to seeing you hit the 10s effortlessly in the next couple of months. I have renewed Atlas engine obsession. I am looking for a clean, cheap 97X with inline 6 to maybe give you some competition. Still undecided if we will go with your turbo build or make our own centrifugal supercharger kit.
Hey man, I want more info on the 6l50 behind a 4.2 in a trailblazer that this guy spoke about. I don’t see it on your site. I wanna see what my options are if this trans decides to quit on me. I plan on keeping the truck as an off road rig until rust kills it lol
I would love to 6L90 swap my SS. Just gonna wait until my 4L70 breaks. But if that happens I’ll get a 6.2. Despite yours not being an SS it’s still great content. Cool to see someone modify this platform. Push the limits
One solution for Park/Neutral is to put the 4L60E PNP switch on the side of the 6L80 just to retain the Park/Neutral position info for the ECU and reverse lights. A friend of mine did that on a GMC Sonoma with a 3.6/6L50 swap and I'll be doing it on a Ute I'm currently building.
Can't wait to see what it does, I have a 2003TB 4200. Making it a 2WD and working on a turbo setup that is way different :) The 6L80 swap is an excellent idea.
Love your compassion, very excited about the potential of all atlas platforms especially 4200 6 cylinder! I'm so excited watching the R/D your putting into this platform can't wait to one-day build and swap in this platform into something awesome and have and AWD beast of a vehicle to rip in thank you! Keep up the great content!!!!
I bought a 6L90E for my swap and it was trashed. I'm going to look for a 6L80E instead. It's a little shorter than the 90e. It will prob fit better in my 03'Crown Vic swap with my Ls3.
This is awesome. I'm interested on that 32 spline t-case input adapter cause that opens up the possibility of a manual transmission swap. Can't wait to see more
i figured since they were 6l80 swapping the V8 trailblazers it was very possible on the Atlas with the emtech adapter . Its easier on the 08-09 but its great that TBM offers a standalone solution for the 02-07 models . Love the build you`ve done everything ive thought of if were to build one , im looking at Envoys and Trailblazers daily just haven`t found the one .
I still work at a power plant, but last year was 200 days of outage worn me out. Roll to facilities projects to avoid quiting. Having 5X 7FAs, 2x D11s and 2 cogens was too many outages. Know the pain. Now this turbo 4200 would be awsome on a 2500 truck chassis, with a small turbo it would probably have decent torque and fuel economy.
Oh yea you have more units than where i work. I bounce around a few plants but the one i just came off has 8 7FAs and 2 old steamers. The other plant is just a 3x1 with newer siemens units. But since february there have been 3 planned outages. 1 block outage and a lot of headaches lol
Recently got a suburban with the 6l80. I have been loving it. Haven't towed with it yet. And I'm almost sane so I don't do any racing in a suburban but so far so good.
Ya my daily driver 2008 trailblazer 4.2 is slowly becoming more of a balanced overland rig. Love the idea of throwing a 6l50 into it to get that low first gear and better fuel economy with big tires. Have 32s right now with 3.42 gears and it’s good but would not go any bigger
Broooooo that's exactly what she needs!!! Ok ok, budget wise, if you have to pick between a atlas 4.2 or the LS 5.3 for a TB 600whp build. What do you pick and why.
The ls is probably the easier route. But there already isn't a lot of room. The 4.2 would be more fun in the end. But depending on the year the ecu is the draw back. 08/09 4.2 would be the ticket.
Why would you put a 6l50 in when it's a lower torque rating than the 4l60? Anyway, love this, make sure you upgrade the 6l80s internals so you don't kill it. Mine is rebuilt after it had the usual oil pump failure from the overactive lockup clutch settings gm uses and I'm pretty sure they run 2-5 on the same gearset, as a result I notice the hesitancy of it to go into 1st once moving. Looking forward to this.
Curious to see how this works out compared to a 4l80e swap. I have a LSA TBSS with a 4l80e swap. Reused cross member, driveshaft, shifter and even transmission lines. Got a pnp harness adapter, longer yoke, different transmission mount and obviously different flex plate and converter.
I been shopping for a new Ls swap for my e46 and I been eyeing the l76 from the G8 but I just didn’t have a use for the 6l80 so I was thinking it was not worth it but my envoy could definitely use a transmission so thanks. Definitely gonna go that route. My only question is I’m assuming the little green drive gear readout in the TB/envoy cluster wont read correctly with 6 gears. Or what will it do? Will you see no reading for the 1-2 gears then reads the rest or no reading for OD-D etc? not a big deal but it would be cool to get it working right.
Im not sure yet lol. But when i find out you'll know. There are still only 4 detents despite it being a 6 speed. Because 5th and 6th are OD. So it probably just doesnt show the 5th and 6th gears.
we were going to put the gm performance 6l80 in here but to start i just got a used one to dial it in. once its done a fully built version will be in the works.
06 may have been the first year they separated them. 06/07 have a decent ecu as well. The first and early year ttailblazers are for sure combined. 02-05.
I just got my 3.73 8.6 in my swb 4.2 I was thinking ar5 but the ar5 is gonna struggle with the weight of trailblazer im really thinking about this 6l80 I would do the 6l50 but I plan on doing solid axle in the front and a turbo setup on my 4.2 and the 6l50 would struggle with that weight
dont you mean a 32 spline output shaft I remember there was a company making kits year ago they had a coupler to fix a TBSS T case to the shaft of a 6L90E
Well mine was a 6l80 hd in 2015 silverado wt n the torque convertor fuse grated in mine n shops wanted $5000 for trans maybe if it hadn’t of had that piece of shit active fuel management to knock cylinders down as mine was the new 4.3 v6 then I would agree with u
@@Low760 I'm assuming you ain't driving that thing... no 6l80e will handle the streets at anything pass 800hp. If its for the strips... yeah maybe ... but at 600whp(my lt daily driver)I can assure you. You won't put more than 120k km on a 6l80e without a rebuilt. Even if its been built by circle d or whatever pro shop you can find in Australia. This is even more true if you run any of the oem torque converter.
Not hating on the build.. just that im on my 3rd 6l80e(1 pre-14 and 2 lt ones)... im actually looking forward to see that he's gonna match a 6l80e to a 4200 and a trailblazer transfer case. I just hope he would have pick the 10l80 as this is what I'm gonna do next time I blew mine up again. Might have to do with the -55°c I put her threw in the winter as it always in winter that the converter died on me.

How difficult is it to put a 6l80/90 into a 4x4 06 Silverado 2500?

I wish I had that option with my trailblazer 2WD 4.2L, great vehicle, the only issue I had was the transmission after 185,000 miles
Did some towing this past weekend with my '07. DEFINITELY wished I had a couple more gears. Kinda thinking the 6L50 might be a goal for me.
I never even heard of the 6l50 but i know how gm numbers work and that means its not designed for as mucvpower
Yep. And given it has the 4l60 bell pattern, it's an updated 4l60
I am doing an identical swap on an Avalanche. Following to know more about installation and any issues.

The V8 non SS trailblazer had to be ordered, same for the Envoy.

I didn’t hear you say what harness you had along with the tim
It's from true blue motorsports
I was thinking about turbocharging in one of these what did you use for tuning software
I used hp tuners. 06/07 can be tuned for boost and mine is an 09. The 08/09 has the e67 which is the best option for factory computer running boost.
Very interested in this swap I first seen it done with a 4.2 and 4wd and the guy offroada it a lot with the 6l80 I’ll find his yt very cool stuff

Question how much to do a full build on one of these 20K or 50K total.
Full build like a built motor? Or just a turbo kit and tune? Im like 7500 into this now on stock motor
dont you mean a 32 spline output shaft I remember there was a company making kits year ago they had a coupler to fix a TBSS T case to the shaft of a 6L90E
The output shafte on the 6l80 os 32 spline so the input shaft on the transfer case needs to be swapped to a 32 spline for it to mate up.
With the stand alone computer hooked up does this mean the trans can be used behind a Lq9 that doesn’t have a reluctor wheel
Tbm has stand alone trans controllers. So id say yes.
Im looking to 6.2 swap mine, would this kit work with my computer?
Escalade 6.2s came with 6l80s so yes.
Hey Jwit, it's Len. My TB is 2wd. Would it be simpler to swap out my 4L60 for the 6L80, or will I still need to shorten the drive shaft?
Im not sure on the length difference.
Why do you need an adaptor to go from chev to LS pattern? It's just an extra bolt at the top.
Its a little more complicated than that. The atlas 4.2 does not share a bellhousing pattern with anything. And the starter is in a different location.
Is there anyway to delete the TCM and convert to manual shift?
Im not sure. Thats a question for TBM. Maybe a manual valve body if one exist?
Why would you? The computer can shift faster and will cut power between gears on the motor too.
Wait an atlas motor into an 240? 😮
Oh yea!
Is that sixth gear ratio correct??? 0.0667??? Shouldn't it be 0.667?
It should be. That was a typo lol
The beard scratch audio was distracting
Yea first time with the new mic setup. It was scratching the vest. Lesson learned.
