yes, too much mass, and he will be vibrating the hell out of that motor ... and his mount is way too flimsy for the raw torque that motor will put out.
+Rich Rebuilds The only problem with putting the motor on the swingarm is whenever you go to jump the quad the top of the motor will hit the bottom of the subframe.
Wanda Lawhern not the only problem. as others have mentioned it could shift weight bias, changes how motor torque affects traction, and adds a large amount of unsprung weight. but again i doubt this is going to be a trail ripper or handle any sort of air, it will still be awesome even if it completely compromises capability compared to itself in gas engine form.
I still think dropping it between the axles direct drive would be the best option get rid of the complication of the chain, lower the sprung weight etc. etc.
Converting an ATV to electric, is the toughest at all. I did three (Yamaha Rhino, Grizzly and Viking) , so I know what I am taking about.. Good Luck..!!!
Grainger??’!! Your 1st choice to go find a sprocket is grainger lol. There’s not some website out there that sells motorcycle parts?? Come on Uncle Rich!!??
You should oval out the mounting holes on the motor bracket. So you can adjust/tighten the chain. By moving the motor up and down. Keep up the great work man.
It was nice seeing your partner in crime (Lee), working the project with you. Nice meeting Phoenix who appears to be a cutie for sure. Good progress on your project, thanks for sharing.
Rich rebuilds go to Tractor Supply for chain sprockets. You can get the Hub in any size you want and a separate part with however many teeth you want then you weld the two together.
4:30 That is a "stupid idea", because your motor will be taking the same impact of the axle. Im not an expert, nor am I saying it wont work, but it probably wont last long and probably wont do well in the wet mud. Im in love with this project and this channel, and I hope it goes well.
Just think, impact that bent that swing arm/sa bolt will go into the motor before the shock absorber. It will also be interesting to see the weight distro of this setup.
Had my go at converting a small quad and i found belt drive a lot safer as there is more give/slip but then again with a proper controller you could adjust the initial power phase so you didn't get that jerk.
you are going to now have no swing arm travel what so ever because when you break it down the swing arm is thin for a reason. to let the shock travel come up into the sub frame. if you put this quad under any higher pressure to where the shock compresses you will smack the battery and after enough times eventually crack or damage the motor. if you can find a way to split the battery and have them hug the motor up in the frame that would allow for peak performance on the quad it self
Amazed by my uncle’s design skill. A real master. Guy, wait for very soon, a new line of summer clothes of High Fashion by Uncle Rich (use under your own description) 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hold a treat in your hand, when the dog focuses on it, move the treat towards him but in the air so he cant reach it and keep moving it towards him, once he cant follow the treat with his eyes / head anymore, he will sit so he can see the treat again, once he does you give him positive reinforcement :) I am really bad at explaining sorry :D
If you are not using some lubricant (oil) when you are drilling metal, your drill will get overheated and loose it's hardening. That is why it gets dull.
Mounting that motor on the swing-arm should be OK, as long as the mounting points on the motor itself can deal with the vibration (up & down motion) ...The constant flexing of the big-ass power cables might be a problem, a twenty inch long straight run should be OK for awhile, but may not last long.
The carbon belt that Zero use is made by GATES and it require alitnment with in 0.25 degree to not snap!.. so both axel/sproket MUST be very parallel and in line !
I think you can use water while trying to drilling steel and metal I think the metal get elastic when heated by friction. So adding water while drinking could make it easier to cut pleas read about this I am not sure.
Goddammit Rich! Your dad jokes kill me every time! "I know nothing about small packages...what I have is huge, and sometimes you have to work with what you've got." HAHAHAHA!!!
Oaft.... I think I would have been tempted to split that battery pack and fit it round the motor in the frame instead..... But still, canny wait to see it finished
So you did not want to extend frame? Even if was bolted together? Give you lots extra space. Maybe use jack shaft. You do not want that motor to be shaken to death with every bump.
The way you mounted the motor on top of the swingarm should work as long as the rear suspension doesnt move. Wait.. there is no airbox or battery under the seat now so it may work if the motor will fit inside the sub frame when the suspension cycles.

U get an A+ in sponsorship gig incorporation. 1:54
That's quite a bit of un-sprung weight on the rear axle. Just be cautious of the handling compromise that introduces.
Yeah, I was gonna say that...though not quite so elegantly.
It also changes the geometry of the suspension so now motor torque will not contribute to drive traction as the factory setup would have.
Wonder how it will do blasting through a foot of water and mud .....
@@andy1056 because we've seen Elon's do that. Is it supposed to be bulletproof too?

11:25 , use coolant!! or old oil to cool down the aluminum while drilling with the hole saw!. and use way slower speed, then it will really cut !
do it on a drill press, put the metal on a brick in a roaster pan full of any fluid - like water and it's flooded...
The nerf dart doubles as an extremely unnecessary q-tip.

Rad Stay At Home Dad it has to be a retailer located on the way to the train station. He uses an electric uniwheel to go that last last mile
LoL that place is so expensive.
Rocky Mountain would be so onboard
Brilliant! I can hardly wait for the next episode. This quad is gonna be awesome. Excellent work Rich, you're doing great!
That was the smoothest segway I have ever seen.
Use WD40 as lube when working with aluminum.

Rich is the absolute best at the sponsorship inserts.
“What I have is huge and sometimes you’ve gotta work with wat u got” Rich 2020
DO you have a way to adjust tension on that chain when it wears and gets loose?
Darkhorse393 doesn't look like it to me.
Just as regular raptor, You loosen the clamp bolts and the bearings of rear axle (outer part) rotate moving it on a circle.
I thought Raid Shadow Legends didn't' sponsor anyone? My parody commercial is a lie now!
Wow, that's great! Love the way you maxed out unsprung weight to save on shock wear.
You compensate many things I would like to know with a humor I never get tired of. That flute 12:26....
Chain link remover tool is like $15 online. Or harbor freight.
Also, you DESPERATELY need a 4 1/2", or 7" grinder (especially to use between welds)

Pretty creative. It's going to handle strange with that huge battery and all that weight on the swingarm. The first jump may be the last.
The #50 industrial sprocket that you have is the same exact size as a 530 motorcycle chain. You can find them pretty easily.
