Lucky your lovely dog didn’t go under the ice when she fell into the canal. Great video with plenty of helpful, sensible advice for everyone in the winter months.
Another great video, thanks. Good to hear that you've been nice and warm on your boat and well stocked up with food in case of emergencies. I've always stocked up with extra food for the winter months.....think it's something that a lot of us do here in the UK, especially so as we get older. Yes, it has been a very freezing week. Thankfully, these days, we do have central heating in our houses, and my heat pump has been running 24/7 to keep the bungalow nice and warm. Since all the snow here turned to ice, it has been lethal underfoot where I live, so I'm looking forward to the temperature rising tomorrow and all the ice melting.
Nice informative video, Gary. Your dogs are a bonus for me, so sorry for the one that went in the canal. Still they had a walk and can settle down for a nice nap!
Hi Gary . People say to me “ooh you must be freezing working outside all day”? It’s exactly how you explain it wear enough quality clothing and you’re absolutely fine . Really enjoyed your pod mate . ( got my date for redundancy 31st March can’t wait ) .
Lovely vlog as always I watch a lot off boaters and they all say its better to have door open it will warm boat better and only loose 2 degrees in bedroom and if you put fan on coal heater that spreads it round boat and cover windows with bobble rape that keeps heat into but love your vlogs and keep them up mate
Thanks Gary. As a victim of grey divorce I am moving back to the UK and plan on living on a narrowboat. I have lived in Florida for 15 years but I spent most of my time in Detroit It gets so cold there in the winter it hurts! Thanks for your informative videos. I spent the month of May on a hire boat to see if the lifestyle fits. It was amazing! I am 65 and wanted to make sure I could handle being a solo boater. Hopefully we will cross paths on the cut. Thanks again.
A lot of the GRP folk basically live in the bedroom, no heating, and use an electric blanket. Not sure if it would be for me, with the rest of the boat just above 3 degrees, but I guess its one of those things you get used to. But then again people sail across the sea in wintery conditions without heating so I guess its do able. Give me a log fire any day.
Its not that cold mate.mines 57 foot long and perfectly fine. Moderate the heat by ventilation and keep the internal doors open _but all the best, interesting vlogs
Another great little vlog, Gary crack on m8, seems like your pretty much on top of things, stay safe, as you've got the best of company with your two loyal dogs...subbed..👍👍
Very informative yet again , your out of the Matrix , what a relaxing but challenging life style , good to have those challenges as they keep us active and healthy , lovely dogs , mans best friend 👍👍
@northernboy5427 thanks. That's because your using headphones. The DJI mic I use is set on stereo and does play that way on a mobile, laptop and tablet. I've been told before it comes out the left ear piece when wearing headphones. I've looked on the app settings and it can't be changed. I checked the sound quality in capcut the editing software and that showed it had been recorded in stereo. Don't know what more I can do to help? If any tech wizards out there are reading this maybe you can advise?
@@narrowboatliving8241 I'm listening on headphones on my computer & it comes out in stereo. Therefore there's nothing wrong with the audio on your video...
if you are using 1 pipe off the heater with a tee joint you would be better off changing the diesel outlet on the heater and separate pipes to where you want the heat to go
@@narrowboatliving8241 put a twin outlet on the heater then 60mm air pipes if you have 75mm vents you will also need reducers don't use a short lenght on the nearest to heater the longer the better
Narrowboats are not cold the lower 2 feet are sealed in a watertight windproof jacket. namely water only top I. Inch frozen. The cabin is only 6 ft 6in wide and 6ft 6in high. Heated by a coal and wood burning stove often I have to leave a door ajat to let the heat out.. The only cold bit is navigating the cold and slippy tooth.
Stay warm Gary and save 👍👍👍

@TheStupotpotpot thank you and good luck for the future. I was made redundant twice so I know how it feels
It's actually colder in my terraced house than on my 57ft narrowboat. Using loads of coal briquettes in the boat's stove to keep it cosy though.

Gary, I live across the pond close to the middle of the US in Missouri. Here it's been around 18°F or about -7.

Best towel down the dog if you can. Helps get the dog nice and dry.
@@Jean-m2t got to catch her first. I put the hair drier on her when we got back
