I love this explanation... spirituality must go together with knowledge of how and why certain things occurred.

The ten days being linked to the Day of Atonement and Daniel choosing who judged him is fascinating! Thank you so much, Chris!

When you mentioned 10 days, the first thing I thought of is the number of tribulation days for Smyrna in Revelation 2:10. 🙏🏽

The parallelism between the vessels and the youths is very interesting, both considered here as spoils of war. I probably never would have thought about it without your video. Thanks once again for unraveling details like this.

In Daniel 1:20, is says the king found the men 10 times better then all the other magicians after this exercise. I believe there is a correlation

    Hey, Chris!
Thank you so much for these insights. I agree 100% with you: If it’s in the Bible, there is a reason or a purpose behind. Sometimes we forget to see the Bible texts as literature. Although everything was inspired by God, there were writers, using metaphors, stylistic devices, hyperboles, word play and even irony. To be honest, I heard many people say that Daniel asked for vegetables in order to establish a plant-based diet. This can’t be true, but what could make sense is that the jews were very cautious with meat offered to idols (This was even a thing centuries later during the council of Jerusalem.), so having access to vegetables, they could avoid meeting this problem and, at the same time, find good nutrition, and God could work through them.

Thanks for your comment! Health certainly may have played a part, but ultimately the text points us to the issue of worship. Eating has always been an act of worship, in the sense that by eating what God has provided for us (Gen 1) and abstaining from what he has commanded us not to eat (Gen 3), we acknowledge him as our God and creator. Of course this food will also be best for our health. But the issue is larger than just health alone.

Now I just need to figure out when to do a Daniel 10 three-week fast...I know it says it was in the third year of the reign of Cyrus, when Daniel went into a mourning fast for the first three weeks of the year, including Passover...I wonder if that means Passover was in the middle of it, at the beginning of it, how you break the fast at the end of it...I'll have to think on it, I suppose.

In fact, worshiping Nebuchadnezzar would be incompatible with Jewish faith, and while we're on the topic of commandments, there are ten of them too. So can't it be a reference to the commandment theme that runs through the entire book of Daniel? Even the chapter division of the book is based on this, although probably not immediately or uncontroversially recognizable. So, Chapter 1 is about worshiping the right God, so I would say that thematically it fits with the first commandment.
P.S. And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD. (Deu 8:3 ESV)

I thought about this and I have come to the conclusion that Daniel picked 10 because it is the number of the lost tribes of Israel - he was doing in honour of them. Daniel was a Jew: the levites and Benjaminites were incorprated into the Jews leaving ten that were taken away captive by the Assyrians before.
