im guessing the world record is based on an average speed over a period of time, like 10 seconds or something? they give no indication of duration of the different speeds they show.

they always do multible runns for a world record. he problably drove pas the radar 3 times and then they took the avarge. why would it be averge overtime?
Apparently here its the speed at which he crossed the finish line...don't know why they called it average..

I'm gonna have a stupid question for the car guys here. Why did it start blowing blue smoke at the end ? It looks like it started going through the engine oil but I can't understand why. Can somebody answer my question ?
This is what I think happens:
Engine is not designed to be in that angle. Normally oil would sit at the bottom and be flushed around by rotating crankshaft that hits the surface. Now it's in steep-ish angle and oil goes to one side, which inreases the surface of oil. Therefore the leftmost piston hits or nearly hits the surface of oil, causing it to get past the piston ring and into the combustion chamber.

No special tires was used in 1997! The record was 181.25 km/h
This new record could only be achieved due to special composites used in bullet proof vests, and a big investment by Nokian tires .
For me this new record has no value.
