It's not about cheating towards the end. It's a simple matter of physics. It gets to a point that the downforce on the motorcycle is so strong it just glues itself to the pavement. You literally have to pull the motorcycle up against a tremendous amount of force, the best you can do is jerk it upwards and hope it catches some air before dropping.
What was fun was watching Dom "the wheelie king" Domokos do a wheelie for 145 miles at 50mph back in 1984 at the Talladega Super Speedway. That guy always put on a good show. May he rest in peace.
This is a wheelie contest. Alex hits all gears in a full balanced wheelie. A wheelie is defined as being on the balance point of the bike the other guy just brings his wheel up he never fully goes into wheelie. All i have to say is that again this is a wheelie contest Alex can do every gear an you cant which makes Alex the King of high speed wheelies.
Correction : the wheelies at the TT happen only because of the, lets call them small inclimbs, then right after the climb or a slight uphill, there is a fall, so because of the speed, bikes lift up the front wheel, and they still punch the gas, watch closely and you will see that the wheelies arent purposed.
Emtildeath6666 I know Patrik personally and you are full of shit mate.We run the Guinness worlds fastest wheelie competition every August at Elvington airfield,York.ENGLAND.Google STRAIGHTLINERS for all results
this is on the GWR website. The highest speed attained on the back wheel of a motorcycle is 307.86 km/h (191.3 mph) by Patrick Fürstenhoff on a Honda Super Blackbird 1100 cc Turbo at Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Leicestershire, England, on 18 April 1999.
104 Thumbs down?!! 104 people with bad form / poor sportsmanship. These 2 men are good examples of why I like people from Europe & the United Kingdom. I love watching people ride wheelies! 😆
May the 1st 1999, at Malby military airfield, on a Honda CBR 1100 XX Turbo Intercooler, Patrick Fürstenhoff "drove" himself into the book of records! With 323, 89 km/ h doing a wheelie!
I wonder what would happend if Patrick was on a certain black Hayabusa instead. Iam not saying hes Ghostrider, but there is much that points towards it. And yes, the 220mph wheelie on highway is true and confirmed.
so you believe its genuine 220 on a freeway. your more gullible than most of his fans. or plain stupid. A clip of a wheelie from a bridge a bike with no clocks no gps. yes you are thick.
iv seen gary doing all sorts of wheelies his skill cant be argued with he has done so much for bikeing he has held the record and if its official record what more can be said
Omg you all think patrick is GhostRider... He quit riding after he went to jail, over 10 years ago! However, he has been helping in the production of the GR movies as a co-driver.
I've seen him too & you are correct in that his skill can't be argued with, people are merely questioning his technique & interpretation of what a wheelie is, not his skill level I think there should be a standard that is agreed by the riders that compete IE: 1.5 feet for 200 yds just for an example then everyone knows what the crack is....
To count as a proper wheelie I believe you need to be at or around the balance point not hovering your front wheel a small fraction above the ground. There has to be a rule like it's carried a certain distance at a certain height to make it legit surely
no, you are thinking about the fictional character who rides a big cruiser in flames, he is talking about the real ghostrider, a guy who has a turbo hayabusa and goes like a maniac on the roads!!
no I got a video of ghost rider back in 06 or something with that turbo busa, the same video he was riding an 03 gsxr 1000 so no way it was newer than 09. maybe he has another one now...
I do agree that a little bump up in the air is bullshit though. But a power wheelie just a couple inches off the ground over a long distance at that speed is more impressive than balance point all day long - because that showcases the raw power of the bike, which I am more interested in lol
Fair enough, I've merely based my comments on wheelies from my own experience as when I was 17 I could wheelie my Honda 125s for at least a quarter mile, it had no power & the ONLY way to keep it going was to get it at it's balance point & then it was a case of being very gentle with the throttle because back then "nobody" thought of using the back brake to keep it controlled. Unfortunately I don't have any proof of this as it was way back before Mobile Phones-Digital Cameras or Video Cameras.
i don't know if u know but the guy with the glasses and the yellow/grey jacket is patrick furstenhoff better known as GHOST RIDER so he in the gr 6.66 beat his own record ;)
Good to see the rules have changed so the front wheel now needs to be airborne for a whole km to be legal.. No disrespect to Gary Rothwell but it ain't a wheelie 'rolling through like that
Patrik really is the Ghost Rider. Swedish law is just so silly that they cannot do anything because they havent got him "on the scene". Google more, if you want some more extra info about their laws....
Good rider can wheelie on his own bike, a great rider can do it on someone else's also. Gary shows his skills by jumping on a strange bike and doing it.
I agree. If you dont go through the gears or hold it for a decent amount of time it isnt a wheelie. If i dont catch a few gears i dont even feel good about it and try again until i get a good one. He should feel bad about doing it that way. I know i dont feel good if i only get one or two gears on the rear tire.
i saw patrick at gr stall at nec when the guy from stu pid riding was challenging him to a race ,he had a skinhead at the time but it was him the vidoe is on youtube
Rat is an acronym for Ridden All the Time my bikes get ridden every day regardless of weather ect .....and given that turbo hayabusas are capable of 280 + mph & they often lift the front wheel meaning its a 280 mph + wheelie ...... Its not a myth its a fact !
not very many people can they even hit 190mph on a bike let alone hitting that speed on 1 wheel.. both these dudes get props, cause i know i would never try it.
I can tell you now for nothing the people that say it was DJ are living on another planet & yes unfortunately DJ did lose his life at the TT but through no fault of his own, there was oil all over the track from a blown engine & NO oil flags were shown because it happened seconds before DJ arrived there flat-out in 6th gear & the marshalls had no time to react so DJ never stood a chance & is greatly missed......
I reckon that swedish bloke is actually ghostrider on a different bike. Seems funny how he's got a yellow unfaired blackbird hen the hayabusa ghostrider rides is nearly identical.
Lol ! This film was shot at Bruntingthorpe proving ground in Leicestershire, England, The filming company hired the place for two consecutive days, on the first day they shot a film of a guy called jeff who went under the name of jumping jake semtex, he was attempting a world distance wheely record on a two wheel drive cr 250 and also a jumping record for jumping the most moving cars with a ramp on the first car coming at him, not the two wheel drive bike, This too is also on you tube, don't believe me look it up, (jumping jake semtex) The speed wheely record was being filmed over the same weekend. ps. jeff did 160 odd miles non stop but had to call it off because of rain, not a world record but a british record non the less. I was part of his support crew. If you look at the jumping record at 2.46 you will see Patrick's bike being ridden in the background , so actually yes i was there. Ps. This is my daughter's you tube account if you wonder why its Summer linley .
I'm no friend of Patriks but he does PROPER wheelies & Gary Rothwell does pale imitations of a wheelie, from my own personal perspective a couple of inches of lift is not the same as 2+ feet off the ground it's fucking plain & simple...
I just watched a video of a guy doing a looooong wheelie at 200mph with the camera guy in the car next to him, shows the odometer a few times! so this supposed record is already blown....
Dude blew up his bike, he should be greatful.he got a chance at all. I also agree, barely popping up.the tire isn't a wheelie. They need to clarify some rules.
Patrick is right, he is doing the real wheelie, just lifting it as you go though the timing light is cheeting
gsxrjaseking Is patrick the "ghost rider?"
Will Hazlett 100% Yes Patrik is Ghost-rider
Patrik is doing the cheating wheelies too at the end the same as rothwell. but rothwell would have beaten him and he knew it.
It's not about cheating towards the end. It's a simple matter of physics. It gets to a point that the downforce on the motorcycle is so strong it just glues itself to the pavement. Gary was lucky, to even get a go.
"That's not a knife(wheelie), this is a knife(wheelie)." No biker would call what Gary did a wheelie.
"if gary beats my record now.....im gonna turn up the boost" haha yesss!!!
Not that can do either but the guy in the yellow is doing a full on wheelie the other guy is doing baby ones
Patrik “Ghost Rider” Furstenhoff. Absolute legend.

FALSE: Fastest motorcycle wheelies happen at the Isle of Man during the TT.
wrong, to be considered a wheelie, the bike must be in the air a minimum of 5 seconds, on the isle of man they don't last but a second
correction, by stunt standards it is supposed to be 5 seconds
Correction : the wheelies at the TT happen only because of the, lets call them small inclimbs, then right after the climb or a slight uphill, there is a fall, so because of the speed, bikes lift up the front wheel, and they still punch the gas, watch closely and you will see that the wheelies arent purposed.

Guys, I was being sarcastic and just overall boasting the Isle. Lol. Good to see nobody being a dick though and just informative. Hats off guys.
this dude made a 220 mph wheelie on a public road, beat that!
I enjoyed the good sportsmanship both racers have, really enjoyable...
Patrick is Ghostrider
that might not be true, ghost rider has done way more than 307 km/h

Bringing the front wheel up for 10 feet is not a wheelie. It’s simply bringing the wheel up under power. Holding it up is a wheelie
Patrik Furstenhoff is the Ghostrider ! ! !
