I had never heard of this plant until I saw an episode of 'How It's Made' tonight on the Discovery Channel. There is so much in this world and it simply never stops giving.

I only found out about these 'Vegies' today. Is it classed as a vegetable? Anyway today I found out that Australia sells them canned for only $3.00 for 400 grams That's cheap especially for something that I believe is unique and probably best left to chefs to cook but I will attempt to cook some for fun.

The most commonly used palm tree for growing heart of palm in a plantation setting is the **peach palm (Bactris gasipaes)**. This species is preferred because it can regenerate new shoots after the main stem is harvested, making it a sustainable option for commercial cultivation. Peach palms are widely grown in Central and South America and are known for their tender and flavorful heart of palm, also called "palmito" or "palmini."

in our country we have many types of palm trees but we don't eat their hearts...... because they takes way too much time to grow and we use them for different purposes..... we use everything from a coconut palm , fishtail palm , different kinds of date palms , Palmyra palm , betel nut palm , rattan palm , royal palm.... e.t.c palms but we don't eat their hearts in our country...... almost every palm heart can be eaten which you can't find in google... like, palmyra palm, fishtail palm, date palm hearts can be eaten and they are so tasty , sweet e.t.c but many people doesn't know that they can be eaten and you can't find anything about eating them in google.... so it's really hard to tell which palm heart you can't eat........😅
