Cockpit Casual - Art of the Long-haul (Part Three)

- In the final installment of the "Art of the Long-haul" series, Steve answers some omnipresent questions about inflight catering before heading into Francazal France by way of Tarbes for import.
The episode caps off an epic journey where Ava and Steve picked up an ex-Indigo Airbus A320 from storage in Alice Springs Australia and ferried it to France where it would undergo delivery checks before being leased to a European operator.
Once again the episode features more original organ trio Jazz from Steve Giordano Sr., Dave Posmontier, and Bob Shomo recorded specifically for Cockpit Casual in Philadelphia, which we are calling "the Germantown Session".
For those of us who are unable to make a career out of our passion of traveling, thank you. We live vicariously through you.
My pleasure - it’s why I make them!
What a fantastic seat to have, isn't it? @CockpitCasual, thank you for sharing!
One thing I absolutely love about your videos is that it's not just about the flight itself but the logistics behind it. Incredibly interesting to hear about catering ops
Can’t believe I found your channel just now, in June 2023. In the youtube ocean of hundreds of vloggers relentlessly vlogging about biz class and economy class IFEs, USB charging port locations, dinner trays, welcome hot face towels and toilet dimensions, YOUR channel is definitely a refreshing world apart. As a mere engineer desk jockey, I can only revel in the adventures in the cockpit captured in your unique vlogs. I watched Parts 1, 2 and 3 straight! Damn good, and rivals BBC Earth any day! Looking forward to watching all your videos.
I appreciate that. Yeah I was setting out to do something that hasn’t been done before!
Found this channel yesterday, watched every video already, fantastic content. The music editing and narrative tone is just stunning. Can’t wait for another series.
Touch grass
Great series. I’m not a pilot but it is fascinating to see other people do interesting and challenging jobs.
The side of commercial aviation I’ve never seen or even thought for a second I’d be interested in. This is serious work you guys do, amazing series! Great work Steve!
It’s definitely a behind the scenes peek. That’s why I thought it would do well! 😎 thank you
From Norway: I think this is (beside captain Bob) the best aviation “reports” or films ever in this categories . No to much check list readings as often is, but real life as you experience it! Interesting, charming and a not to well known part of aviation industry.
I am a 73 driver in a EU carrier. Watching your videos makes my job look insanely boring. Please keep the essence of your videos, editing, music...it's truly a unique and distinctive style, and it's awesome. thanks for sharing!
Was looking forward to this and it didn’t disappoint! Great job and the music really hits the spot. I’m so glad you’re making these videos, and I look forward to watching more in the future. Thank you for sharing the ferry pilot life with us all! 👨✈️🛩
These videos are so good please keep making them guys
Love the videos. Great music too.
What a great series, super pacy cut, your dad's music - don't know why you're flying these birds when you could be out there making blockbuster docos!!
you guys make my airline job seem boring and i love my job. awesome footage, awesome story telling. so excited to have seen you guys visit my homebase jakarta and that you actually tried "nasi padang". when you have an overnight in jakarta i would love to bring you guys along for some amazing street foods.
cheers!
We used to go to CGK a lot. It’s been a while, we’re probably due
@@CockpitCasual absolutely! just send me a message when you are around and i will show you what fantastic food is
That was so very enjoyable. I've only watched one other long haul flight and it was just a long non stop, but nothing like this. I didn't even know flights with this level of intensity existed. And the music was fantastic, played with feeling and precision.
Thanks Robert!
I've only just come across these guys on here, absolutely superb. So fascinating to see the life of a ferry pilot and so much work goes into making the videos. Thanks guys, great job!
Everyone's compliments echo mine, and I am always impressed when someone takes a risk building a business, and pulls it off. Congrats on that. More importantly, however, I just applaud someone who made something beautiful to watch. Not enough beauty in the world today. Thank you for bringing some into it with this series.
I'm so happy I've found this channel. I love travel and big jets. Been a passenger from everything from an A319, up to A380 and 717 through to 747 and 777's.
I'm so glad that I seen this channel as a suggested channel from the TH-cam channel 74 gear. This definitely did not disappoint.
Thanks John!! @74Gear also a great channel!
Worthy of an avgeek Oscar!
I just binge watched your whole channel. Looking forward to more!
Loved it. Can’t wait for the next one.
Not a pilot or even in the aviation industry, but great to see the logistics and travelling of your very rewarding job. Keep up the fantastic work it’s bloody brilliant! From a v interested Brit 🇬🇧
Thank you for sharing your stories, it is amazing for avgeeks like me. BTW I hold an FAA CPL/ME/IR but never flew for a living, I am a lawyer from Istanbul Turkey, serving only aviation clients, some of which are leasing companies.
From this mid60s retiree from several non-aviation jobs, thanks for the pure infotainment. I love it. $400 for one catered meal?!
Pizza! 6:28 We flew into Unalakleet, Alaska and had pizza brought to the plane. It was astoundingly good, Greek pizza every bit as good or better than the pizza I had in Italy. We savoured every bite of it.
Great content as always! Looking forward to getting some Nomadic merch!
👍 Oh that food from Hawaii made my mouth water. lol
You guys have an amazing job, life...
I wish I could become a pilot, its way too expensive in the UK, currently £100k+ to become commercial, I will watch your videos instead in jealousy but glad we get the content and live our dreams vicariously through it
I really don't know if I watch your videos for the views or the music. Yeah, the music is just awesome!
best small channel i've found in a long long time.
Only recently came across this channel. The entire idea of casual jazz with narration really hits the spot for me. Currently looking for my first pilot job after 1,5 horrible Covid years having no chance as an ab-initio. These videos keep the passion alive, keep 'em coming!
Thank you!! I am glad you appreciate the “vision”
Type rated in God knows how many aircraft, and the flight hours accumulated must be staggering. An amazing way to make a living.
Logbooks probably the size of an encyclopedia 😂
What an amazing series, really enjoyed the whole thing. Absolutely looking forward for more to come :)
Just found this channel and subscribed. Great 3 part video. Flying has change a lot, FMS was the latest technology when I was flying the world. Retired many years ago but still fly here in Thailand. Started flying ferries to the middle east then took a corporate job in Saudi Arabia that took me all over the world. I truly understand the trials of your business.
Best series ive ever seen on youtube. Bravo
I can't wait to see more of that
Another great series - very enjoyable! Camera work and editing brilliant plus the signature music.
Just ordered my official "Fly Comfy" Nomadic long sleeve tee! Thanks again for the content, looking forward to consuming more!
Thanks for this, really enjoyable viewing.
Thank you - great film and music as ever. Making these films must take a hell of a lot of effort too besides the actual flying - great result though!
They take quite a bit. Happy to do it, as I enjoy the process - it just takes time…
Another fantastic video Steve, keep these videos coming.
These videos bring a completely new perspective into the aviation world, loving it!
I heard Nomadic 99 going into MIA yesterday. Can't wait for the next video.
Experimental 767 cabin mod test flight!
Awesome. One heck of a trip. Thanks for sharing!
Got to watch 2&3 back to back, always enjoyable Steve, keep them coming !!!
One of the best yet. Music continues to be outstanding as well. Thanks for putting these together.
Thanks Steve. I do appreciate the effort of putting this together. Completely understand your issues and complaints. Been there quite a few times but on the mighty herc. Got yourself a new sub. All good for both you guys
Another great series! Thanks Steve, looking forward to the next one.

Man, these are so great! Continuing the binge.
👍🏼
Keep em rolling fellas, enjoy watching them all.
Oh man...what an adventure ! It must have been a looooong trip ! I'm just discovering your channel and as a French spotter guy who lives near to Tarbes and Toulouse, I hope to shot you around one day landing a plane ! Apart the exhausting side of this job, by the way ENORMOUS respect for that it must be really tough sometimes to stay alert after hours of flying, it seems to be a wonderful job ! Thanks to share it with us 😀 (I will look for OMD tracks on Flight Radar 24 now !)
Thanks Steve, looking forward to the next adventure with you guys
Thanks guys. Very entertaining and well put together
Brilliant. Thanks again Steve & team!
Part one showed up in my feed earlier today, now watched all three. Fascinating insight into something that I would expect not many of us to realise even happens. Thanks for the entertainment.
Thoroughly enjoyed this series. Thanks, Andy.
Can't wait for the next one👍
I only subscribed this morning and I have to say I love this channel and the music goes very well with it . Bob is funny . Have watched all the videos cant wait for the next new one 👍👍🛩
Absolutely fantastic awesome amazing job Thank you really enjoyed it
Great Video, as always, thanks Steve!
Thanks for the continued effort put into making these - a real youtube highlight.
These are so well done! The effort you put into these stores…mini-documentaries, actually…is kind of breathtaking. It’s so well done you almost don’t notice. The photography, editing, sound, fantastic music and a really compelling story. Thanks so much.
You cannot stop producing this content, it’s absolutely on a different level!
Great photography! Thanks for sharing with us. Your office views are great! Keep safe and thsnks again for sharing. Peter

Good stuff - I’m about to start working on the next series
Love your work. The music takes it to the next level. May I ask what the next series is? Cannot wait as it will undoubtedly be supreme. Thanks for all your efforts.
Great trip. As always, love the music from the trio...totally appropriate!
Awesome finale😉
Just found this channel a day ago and watched the art of flying long haul series. Stunning footage and the music together with the narration just fit perfectly. Subbed! Cheers from Switzerland.
Sounds like y’all need a good cigar to help unwind after such a long week! That’s always my go-to after working 5-6 days in a row in the air!
Ricco always brings good stuff from his humidor when we fly together - a reason I always look forward to flying with him (tale of 7 virgins Ep 3 & 4)
Absolutely lovely! Really enjoyed this 3-part series. And your music was perfect!
Thank you Steve!
That was a great segment. I kinda freaked during your push back at Cairo. For a moment I didn't realize your video was on fast forward and when I saw that aircraft screaming down the taxiway looking like he was on the take off roll, I had a WTF moment. That was pretty hilarious. Thanks for introducing us to the catering side of the business, I always wondered how you guys obtained your sustenance and now I am more educated. Amazing cinematography on your flight into France, that was totally awesome. Overall that was a great series and sad to see it come to an end but I am enthusiastically looking forward to the next one.
Thanks David! Time-lapse is a tool I use frequently to keep it movin!
Fantastic music and flying footage! It's amazing to see that you can fly these planes almost as casual as in GA.
Awesome series. Thanks!
This is a really great behind the scenes and in depth look at a side of aviation I didn’t know existed, thank you for bringing us along! Great content! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
just found this channel..holy crap it's good
This is the best material I have seen on TH-cam in years. Very well done guys.
Amazing und exciting stuff once again!!!
Absolutely amazing videos. Im hooked.
Thanks Mark
Amazing series! Thanks for creating and sharing. Subscribed!
Awesome, wish I could fly airbus A320✈️✈️
Great series. I am a new follower but will be watching now for sure!
Only just found you guys.... For an aviation geek it's fantastic content. I will share with my geek mates. Great job, keep it coming!
Started watching part 1 and 2 an hour ago, just as I finished part 2, you posted part 3. Great!! 👍
Perfect Timing!
Hey Steve, fantastic videos! You’ve a gift for storytelling and it sets your videos apart from the rest. As an avid simmer, I would love to recreate the flights with the original routing from this video series! If you have it and are able to post somewhere that would be awesome! Cheers and keep up the great work. Lastly, your old man’s band ain’t half bad, love the grooves.
Great video, fascinating to view, keep up the great work 👍
Thanks for the final episode of an epic long haul in the true sense of the word. 11 hours from SA to Europe direct is a breeze in comparison. Found your catering options very interesting. Have to agree that when I travel, always search for locals spot. Normally the cheapest and always the best👌👍🇿🇦
Loving the channel and content!
16:50 “we’re smoked” haha awesome job fellas 🛫
Great content as always. Thanks for sharing.
Great content and thanks for sharing
