Otacon is Huey's son (You'll see Huey in TPP) Solid Snake (Big bosses' clone) killed Big Boss before MGS1 took place. Thats basically all you need to know to get into the console series.

While he may physically resemble his father, I love how Hal couldn't be any more different from that selfish old monster, and ultimately succeeds in his aspirations where Huey failed and earns his own happy ending just by dint of being himself.

She didn't die, but she ended up hating Hal and traumatized for life. Well Hal had people like Snake and the others to help him from falling too deep into his work and not lose his moralities. Huey became so obsessed with his strive for success that he was willing to sacrifice him and his wife just for that. If you played Phantom Pain, you know what I mean.

We get to see from the very start that Huey blames every single problem he has and every single fuck up he makes on everyone but himself. He abdicates blame all the way to the very end of Phantom Pain, calling Snake and the others monsters after he basically handed Sahelanthropus to a child and nearly caused a world-ending zombie virus. Meanwhile, when Hal finds out that Metal Gear is going nuclear, he doesn't pass on excuses, he just works to fix it. It's not Snake that made him better. In fact, it's probably Otacon that helped Snake not become as jaded and destructive as Big Boss.
Funny thing is in MGRR both Raiden and teen Sunny referenced Hal being a ladies man but always keeping them on shoulder's length. Maybe he just misses Snake so much.He's the only person he was able to live with for years, and they were refugees as eco terrorists.

Imagine a metal gear game through otacons eyes? 100% stealth, and no weapons just constantly running and hiding, and almost instant death if you get shot
Those polygonal graphics would naturally keep me from feeling the sentiment, but that voice acting and soundtrack really deliver. I've never played those games but their story and characters look so good. Liquid, dare I say, is already my favorite antagonist and I haven't even started playing yet.
I really hope that MGS1 gets a full-on remake sooner or later. For how amazing of a game it was, I'm shocked Konami or any company hasn't made it happen yet.
MGS1, along with MG1&2. Those games are extremely pivotal to the entire story of Metal Gear Solid down to the very ending, and Phantom Pain even leads directly into the plot of Metal Gear 1. Yet the most playable version is still just an emulation of a console that no one has ever heard of...

4:09 one of my favorite shots in any game ever. It's just so genuinely cinematic, and yet so simple. No one else could have pulled off using a purely black background in a game like this and made it feel so purposeful. And thematically it totally works. You are at the climax of Disk 1, wandering into the literal darkness from this point on. Especially the shot of Snake just standing in the dark, looking over his shoulder back at Otacon, it feels like a frame from a manga like Berserk or something, it's just so memorable and iconic.

All from the games, the dialogue is amazingly wacky but that’s why it’s such a great contrast for the series is so full of charm and feel good moments amongst the other dark themes and brutal moments
