I love that about all the old classics, and I feel like that something only found on indie games or on rare occasions some big releases, it was the olden days and people like Kojima and the team can just experiment a lot of things and try out what works, make games not JUST for money but also for something else, to make it for the players and to be enjoyed. Even something like RE6 was filled with details when the game has *SO* many flaws, been playing through it with my pal and we’re down to the last chapter with Ada, and man it’s been a journey.
The unncessary details are the details you notice, yeah. One of the main, most fundamental disadvantages of the more stream-lined, optimized ways of game design often seen today is that everything in the game is there for a reason. Might sound well on paper, but I'm sure you know what I'm getting at: as a gamer, you can kinda just "tell" when something in a game has a purpose. And when you see that, the meta-logic brings you out of the immersion. Random, pointless additions break this notion. It distracts us from the strings behind the curtains, and reminds us that the world we're playing in is real. Take that sense of awe and mystery away, and it's just a video game.

I rang Stillman randomly while defusing bombs and he gave me a whole like rundown of Fatman's educational history. It was so awesome. Doesn't add anything to the game and Fatman isn't really that important in the long run, but the detail in this game is just so immense. I've been playing it since 2001 and I still find new stuff.
I beat all the game so many times I don't remember and I still found things. Plus, usually peoples don't really care with the codecs but you can found so many conversations ( well, they are a little tricky in the case of MGS2 since sometime you need to skip many times the same conversations for found new ). My favorite for the codec moments was in MGS3 so many funny converstations. X3

@hideousKojima It's a bit difficult to explain without going into an essay (and its been a while since I played it so I might mess up the plot). But compare the ending twist in MGSV which attempts to literally bring the player into the game to the character of Raidan in MGS2. As much as certain fans hate the character, Raidan and his story reflects the player better and is an easier character to act as an avatar. His story echoes the players own experience from playing past games. For example, All his training is from VR, much like how the players "training" is from playing the previous video games. Likewise Snake is a character that was made for players to look up to or admire in MGS, here he mentors Raidan. The character switch also allows for some clever stuff like the funny moments here. The point is that MGS2 uses many subtle meta elements to almost literally bring the player into the game. Whereas MGSV had just one big (but really cool) twist that was a bit wasted.
Nathan Gatten I didnt mind the twist in V but I wish it would flesh out over time instead, like he would notice some weird things, like trimming up his beard and noticing scars around his jaw line and other small things like bringing back the bandanna recovered from the AI pod and him not really caring to show a sign that its not really him. MGS2 had the twist in the end as a way to recreate snake in another person like you said but it was also meant to show how awesome snake was from the viewpoint of a less experienced guy like Raiden. I cant really say mgsv has more story even though my version on my channel is 17 hours long compared to however long my version of mgs2 is on here, like 6 or 7 I believe. It just felt rushed after chapter 1 ended.
I remember when I was a kid and the first time I heard the "you'll hurt your eyes sitting so close to the tv" literally as I was staying up all night, playing MG2, sitting very close to the TV. I was like WTF!? LOL
Paul Smith Not much of a talker and I dont think I have a big enough audience for whole YT playthroughs. I can do that on twitch though. Ill be doing twitch stuff with MGS and Destiny once I get back from deployment.
61 is a sex position in which one cuts off their nipples and places them on their eyes before just doing it in the missionary position like normal. This is what the scissors are for.
As someone once put it, the series bears very high highs and very low lows, constantly shifting tone from one extreme to the other with no middle ground for normality.
The game goes mad serious starting with Emma's death. Raiden's revelation, Snake's hopeless endgame with Fortune&Solidus, Raiden's endgame with 25 MG Rays, Olga's execution, Ocelot's revelation and possession, the Patriots' revelation, Solidus' revelation and the final showdown. Heck, even the Colonel's insanity is pretty serious if you omit the funny lines he throws in.
It was a major departure for the series and most people were expecting a heavy focus on story. Instead the focus on gameplay happened. Luckily that gave us a sword combat system that is the undisputed king in its ability to make the individual feel powerful. Gameplay-wise the game is excellent with tight controls, berabe movement speeds and difficulty that's only punishing if you screw up. (Except for the harder modes like Revengeance) Story-wise it's very much lacking and codec conversations aren't very interesting, that might be the reason. Another is people's lingering hatred of Raiden. Had the best bosses and OST ever though

Aww...you missed the bit where Snake points to his headband and comment s"Infinite Ammo." Also the lines if you use the Directional Mic on him when he's asleeep. Or the bit where Emma meets Johnny behind the columns.
THanks for all the easter eggs.... I only got about half of them... but hey dang... not bad I found most of them. gotta say though... I liked the version with the skate boarding better cause when I got tired of MGS I could always tony hawk it for awhile.

I never hate Raiden on my side, he's not Snake that's all. At some points we have to give he kick more asses than Snake. I mean Snake beat usually one Metal Gear in every game ( I don't consider Gecko and co' as metal gear ) but Raiden beat like 20 of them. Respect! But the game has so many silly moments or actions just for the 'style' of the cutscene or something like that where it totally doesn't make sense. Still like that game, still play it, not my favorite but an episode I like ( just too short if you skip the cutscene :P ).

metal gear is basically the early 2000's red dead redemption 2. There is just such a wide range of random shit you can do that youd thing a game wouldnt think of. theyre realistic in ways you wouldnt think, like how waiting for the end to die of old age in mgs 3. you can even kill him before the fight in a cutscene if your quick enough.

Achievement unlocked: snake beater
"I need scissors! 61!" I remember and love that part, lol.
6:40 ROFL Awkward moment, when the person you talk to unknowingly disses you :D

I'm pretty sure I know what Snake is doing while looking at that poster
“funny moments”
*shows clips of dudes being murdered in cold blood*
me: haha hilarious!
Aww...you missed the bit where Snake points to his headband and comment s"Infinite Ammo." Also the lines if you use the Directional Mic on him when he's asleeep. Or the bit where Emma meets Johnny behind the columns.
I didnt miss anything. I skipped things because the video would be too long.
THanks for all the easter eggs.... I only got about half of them... but hey dang... not bad I found most of them. gotta say though... I liked the version with the skate boarding better cause when I got tired of MGS I could always tony hawk it for awhile.
Russell what?
MGS2 Substance came with a skateboarding mini game.
It was a demo level from Evolution Skateboarding. Spoiler: It sucked.
Anomaly188 Hey guys we found that one guy who was so bad at it that he thought it sucked
Man this game was awesome!.
*[Slips]*
Rose: *OMG HOLY FUCK ARE YOU ALRIGHT ITS ALL MY FAULT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE TO TAKE THE HIT FOR YOU NOOO YOURE NOT GONNA MAKE IT OH GOD WHATHAVEIDOOOOOOONEE*
i really get why people hate raiden honestly mgs2 is my favorite in the series.
Still man's death actually gave me nightmares as a kid so did raidens self doubt talking to shake in arsenal gear after finding out he's been talking to an ai
We have ChatGPT now. Just imagine when an AI passes the Turing Test.
@@himwhoisnottobenamed5427yeah, that's pretty fucked up 😂

This is priceless
I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-kiri Rock. I need scissors. 61!
Snake: Raiden I'm on your side.
Raiden: OKAY I BELIEVE YOU.
If you fill up your camera with pictures of the Marine Commander and keep uploading them to the computer Otacon gets weirded out and asks if you're in love with the guy lol. There are so many funny moments in this game.
0:27 Is... is snake trying to spit venom?
This game and the series was WAYYY ahead of its time.
I remember when Rose implied that Raiden beats her.
Not implied, she literally outright said he hit her once.
WASH AWAY THE ANGER
From time to time a woman needs a good ole shlap in the face.
@@NichtNameee sometimes everyone needs one, preferably don't hit anyone, but if they deserve it, slap away.
@@ethanlotter6270 That made me laugh so fucking hard oh my god
metal gear is basically the early 2000's red dead redemption 2. There is just such a wide range of random shit you can do that youd thing a game wouldnt think of. theyre realistic in ways you wouldnt think, like how waiting for the end to die of old age in mgs 3. you can even kill him before the fight in a cutscene if your quick enough.
Sneaking missions are called wetworks, after all
This game is an eternal masterpiece everyway you look at it. Insurpassable
