Uncle Babar was my father's CO and our neighbour during the 1965 war. I had recently gotten admission in the pre nursery at that time. During the 65 war my father was a Major in the Army Aviation and Uncle was a Lt Col. I was really scared of his overwhelming and strict personality but, auntie Pukhraj was a real sweetheart. My parents and Auntie and Uncle Babar remained close friends until they all passed away, first Uncle, then my father, then my mother and finally auntie. May they all rest in peace in the highest echelons of Jannah. Aameen summa Aameen!!

My late father also was military officer and he was in chamb jorian sector fighting and captured many miles in jorian which now again in Indian control in result of Tashkent agreement. Our parents gave their best part of life to the nation and people of pakistan but the unfortunate and discouraging situation now is our political parties miss-lead youth have no idea what our military have done for our country.

Pakistan's economic mismanagement during the 90's (as you rightly point out via the Sharif's and Zardari's) is the main reason however the Army should have stayed away from politics. These politicians would never had an excuse, they are eternally corrupt however from the rubble, many young visionary political leadership may have emerged if given the chance. It has happened all over south asia so we are no exception. The constant meddling and the current crackdown on political leadership, civil society is completely unhinged and uncalled for, basically the two dozen Generals at the top want to maintain status quo and hence the anarchy in the country.
