How to Make a Circular Pixel Stretch in Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud

Start from scratch, or download practice files [adobe.ly/2RGjquK] for a head start. Steps below.
Prep your project:
1. Open both Photoshop documents included in the practice files.
2. Switch to the document labeled ‘_jump’.
3. Choose the Move (V) tool, click the model, and select copy (Edit - Copy).
4. Switch to the document labeled ‘_background’ and paste (Edit - Paste) the selection.
Note: Photoshop adds the photo of the model as a new layer to background document.
5. Add a blank layer above the Background layer and below the Jump layer. Then, right-click and convert it to a smart object.
Create the stretch effect:
1. Select the Jump layer and use the Single Row Marquee tool (click and hold the Marquee tool to see this) to click an interesting spot in the image. Copy the selection.
2. Double-click the smart object layer to open it and paste the selection.
3. Use the Move tool, with Show Transform Controls enabled, and rotate the selection 90 degrees.
4. Use Shift+Alt (Windows), Shift+option (macOS), and drag to stretch the selection across the width of the smart object.
5. Drag to move it to the top, save to apply the effect, and close the Smart Object window.
6. With the Smart Object layer selected, apply the default Polar Coordinates (Filter - Distort - Polar Coordinates) to transform the horizontal stretch effect into a circular one.
Tip: If the mask thumbnail appears black and the polar distortion does not take effect, double-click the mask thumbnail and choose Invert.
7. With the smart object layer still selected, click Add layer mask at the bottom of the Layers panel.
8. Choose the Brush (B) tool, set it to black, and brush to hide portions of the circular effect.
Extra effects:
If you’d like to enrich the detail of the color streaks, follow these steps before you apply the final mask.
1. Use the Marquee tool to select a portion of the model, copy the selection, double-click the Smart Object, and paste the selection.
2. Choose a portion of the shirt, stretch it, then use the Eraser (set to a soft brush) to blend the effect.
3. Repeat these steps to add more color to the stretch transformation.
That's it!

To get the Polar coordinates to work correctly make sure the rectangle fits edges of the canvas exactly, and then moved all the way to align with the top edge of the canvas. Basically your rectangle should fit the top of the canvas perfectly. This is vaguely mentioned in step 5 but not shown in the video. Hope that helps with issues with the polar coordinates. :)

OK, but the last part suddenly changed without explanation about the fine details to make it like the pixel/colors also comes out from the shoes..
Just do it again by selecting a area with the shoes and merge them
If you can't figure that out this is too advanced for you... maybe look a tutorial on how to use select tool
If you cant do color correction or color grading on your own then you shouldn't be designing. That kind of stuff is specific to the type of work you are doing.
Do it again, now in a vertical, which includes the shoes, and same process,

I run into a problem with the 4th step of creating the stretch effects, I used the single marquee tool on the jump layer, copied and pasted to the empty layer, but when I begin stretch it, there's nothing between
do your marquee then press cntrl+j and it will create a new layers, then select cntrl+t to selected it, hold shift while you drag, done
I love how it jumps another 20 steps between 0:56 and 0:58

The tutorial is about how to create the circular pixel stretch, which it accomplished. Everything else done to the circle is irrelevant to the initial topic.

How comes your distortation goes to a perfect Circle after clicking polar cordinates, mine opens another window which then forms a distorted half circle.. any clues, please

Hi, when I use single row-column on jump picture and then copy and double click on smart object layer paste single row column there and rotate scale and both sides are same but the center is empty why?
Same problem, I get an oval. Can't figure out how to fix it.
When I saw in another video, the image need to be square (1000x1000, 500x500). If the image isn't square the effect will be oval.
why there is a horizontal line in the middle of the picture? how could i get rid of it?

@Bait Tackle After Effects is not editing software. It would be premiere pro. Graphics are made with After Effects. And the main graphic with Photoshop, of course.
one more quest when I use Filter - Distort - Polar Coordinates then hid okay I get rectangular shape not circular shape please help me

Remy I did. I tried stretching it both directions. Any hints on what aspect ratio it needs to be or length and thickness in relation to the canvas?
@@chazdillon2909 I get the proper effect when I make the pixel stretch the same width of the canvas. And place it in the vertical center of the canvas.

All these comments on jumping and not showcasing all of the steps are ridiculous! Allow yourself to explore the software more. These are basic instruction, not a FULL length, step-by-step, holding your hand tutorial, in any way. Use the filters and captions to do more precise searching on how to execute it the way YOU want.
