    Hey guys, please note: This video was written and recorded before the most recent update. A few things have changed but not so drastically that I though it would be necessary to re-edit it.
    Here’s a rundown:
    - The handling model has been adjusted. Whilst a lot of cars feel more stable and predictable, including tuned road cars, which I showcased in this video, the issue is still there in the background. For instance, the 512BB I used as an example is still pretty awful to drive.
    - The Performance Point calculations have been adjusted. In the few specific cases of it being obviously broken it does appear to be resolved however this is highly situational and I wouldn’t be surprised to see that people have found new ways to break it. IMO the idea for how the PP system works in GT7 (basically, running a simulation of the car on a track and determining the PP based on it’s relative lap time) is flawed and will always leave room for exploitation given how a human can drive a car in different way than what the simulation might expect.
    If anything else has changed significantly please let me know!

      The faster 500pp cars which I've tuned before the update have been adjusted. I was using them in The Clubman Cup + to test their performance. About 60% now have over 550pp...these cars were the fastest. There's still some engine swap cars that are hidden gems for 550

      PP system is still broken. Maybe I just found an exception, but a fully tuned Honda Beat '91 *with* 500+ bhp engine swap has *less* PP than a 135 bhp stock engined tune.

      Japan has a general problem with really out of date graphic design. Which puzzles me to no end. The PlayStation main menu... Ribbon... Thing... Is just awful in so many ways. It looks like a $20 DVD player. Little things like never pre-fetching content intelligently so you keep getting loading screens even three menus deep into buying DLC. Nintendo is just as bad. Trying to use the Switch store sometimes feels like using a Dreamcast to browse the internet. Then to something like GT7... Even Starfox on SNES made the lips flap when the characters talked. The GT7 menus look more like a cheap anime porn game you'd find on Steam than a AAA big name console game. Just change the talking head to say "What are you doing step bro?"

    I'm a livery creator and out of the 800h i have on the game I've spent around 500 on the editor.
    I can't stress enough how absolutely dumb is the fact that I can't make decals the same color of the actual car - so you either pick a cool color but can only do masks over it or you have to use a 'standard' color and be able to make corrections to other decals. It's such a small fix but would make an incredible difference.

    • @Roflwaffle16
      @Roflwaffle16  ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Yep, basically creating mask layers and having decal paint be unified with regular body paint (so including metallic, pearl, chrome, iridescent etc decals) and it would pretty much be perfect. I didn't talk too much about applying decals because honestly I think GT7 does it way better than any other racing game I've played but for sure it can always be improved

      There's more to complain about, but I've sold my PS4 since, and I'm happy to have done so. GT7 was a disappointment in more ways than it was entertaining.

Had a new ambient - industrial theme throughout the game that succeeded the jazz and lounge/bossa nova of the past games, it did this within a unified and cohesive manner and it still had more original race music than GT7.

    In addition to the great points you made about the stability of modified road cars, another issue is that they are not truly competitive against true race cars in events with fuel usage. If you bring a modified road car to race against the Gr.4 cars in a 700PP event, for example, you either have to pit a lot more frequently than you would in a Gr.4 car, or you have to short shift so much that you leave several seconds of lap time on the table for the entire duration of the race, which makes it less fun.
    It doesn't matter how much you lighten the car or reduce engine power output to maintain a performance balance close to the other cars, you just can't go as long on fuel. This is likely realistic in the sense that most road cars will have a tank capacity of anywhere from 55 to 90 litres, where race cars are more likely to carry somewhere in the region of 120 litres, but the question is: Why isn't there an option to buy a racing fuel cell in the tuning shop? Maybe even restrict it to cars that have had a certain level of weight reduction applied. This would go a long way to allowing modified road cars to get closer to parity with their racing counterparts in races with fuel usage, allowing for more interesting and varied car choices. At the end of the day, isn't more variety a better thing for everyone?

    • @Roflwaffle16
      @Roflwaffle16  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes, great idea! That is quite annoying. I find something similar with say Gr.3 cars when you put a turbo kit on and it just tanks the fuel usage. I mean turbos generally make cars more efficient but it's making more power so I guess that's realistic...? Either way it means that the upgrade barely does anything because you then have to turn your fuel map way down in those WTC races just to get to the end. Realism is good except when it needlessly contradicts enjoyment and makes certain features redundant...

    • @aaryeshg.6526
      @aaryeshg.6526 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There is a similar issue like this all the way back in GT2. For example, if I want to do the rally events with say, a WRX or WRX STi of any version, I can tune it up, and its fairly competitive with most rally cars (except for Escudo ofcourse).
      But if I buy a Forester, because why not it is an SUV, I cannot upgrade it to even the same level that a WRX can, hence not competitive enough. Why restrict an SUV that is based on a car with same running gear? I don't understand.

    • @Appletank8
      @Appletank8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Roflwaffle16 Realistically if you're taking in more air, you're also burning more fuel. Turbos only really save fuel if you simultaneously downsize the engine and don't run so much boost you run fuel rich.
      But baffling, getting a bigger fuel tank for racing is also "realistic", so who knows why they've randomly nerfed road cars there so hard.

    • @kirby1225
      @kirby1225 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's how it has always been in Gran Turismo. And it is realistic but only because the upgrades you get are limited like in GT4 you can only get so much downforce compared to racing cars with the wing upgrade and any stock downforce a car may have.

  • @marcusoppong1024
    @marcusoppong1024 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    While you mention that the car list is a smaller complaint in your opinion, it is a really big issue for me. As much as I love racing in high-speed cars, the GT experience for me was starting from the bottom and being there for a while. There's a reason that the Toyota Yaris/Vitz, Mazda Demio, Suzuki Capuccino and Nissan Cube are memes in the community: it's just surreal yet you could race in them and sometimes against high-performing racing cars and somehow win. Sometimes, you WANTED to race in bottom-tier cars just to show off your skills, humiliate your AI competiton, just to have fun or all of the aforementioned.
    And that's what's seriously lacking for me: the selection of everyday cars of the past and present. After all, some of these "mundane" cars are iconic in parts of the world. Where's the Renault Twingo? Peugeot 206/406? The freaking Mitsubishi Eclipse? Pretty much all common Mercedes? Any Fiat cars outside the 500? Audi A2/3/4/6/8?
    I know nearly all cars were taken from GT Sport to have a roster in the first place but it clearly shows that the car roster for GT7 wasn't purpose-built for the GT experience you usually expect.

    • @Roflwaffle16
      @Roflwaffle16  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      That is still very true and was always part of the classic GT experience. I suppose it's more that the game is so deeply flawed in many other ways (structure, progression, events, rewards, AI, etc) that even if they added all the cars we could ever want tomorrow we wouldn't be able to enjoy them in the same way as the older games. The idea is that we need to put more emphasis on the fundamental issues first as a priority and then really focus on things like the car list as a secondary complaint

  • @Bahraini_Carguy

    26:30 ironically, GT7 barely has any SUVs & Crossovers in the game. In fact, the previous entries probably had more.
    Personally, i find Kaz's words & interviews to be really inconsistent and often contrary. In that exact article for example, he mentioned that a lot of fans are complaining about them not adding cars from classic GT days and in respond, he says something along the lines of "we have to embrace the future with new cars and what not" yet they somehow continue to add mostly cars from the mid-late 20th century.
    There are a lot of other things i want to talk about but I just don't have the time nor effort to make an hour or so video on GT7.

    One more example of meaningless limitations is split-screen multiplayer. Many people claim it is irrelevant and nobody uses it but my 5-y.o. son and I love to race together and we haven't saved up for a second console and TV set yet.
    Anyway, this feature is present in GT7 but they inexplicably removed the option to use cars from your garage for split-screen racing. That means we cannot choose a couple of weird junkers, tune them, slap stickers on them and then face them off against each other in a race. Our only option is a small selection of cars suggested by Polyphony. Which is even weirder since the garage was available for the split-screen mode in Sport and really didn't need to be changed much at all.

    Pointlessly restrictive...that's a good way to describe Polyphony Digital. I remember in GT5 there was a glitch that allowed you to remove the rear spoiler from cars. This was a pure cosmetic thing that Polyphony patched out of the game. There were other bugs at the time but the spoiler deletion took priority. The same thing happened with another glitch that let you repaint cars that usually couldn't be repainted. It was mostly used to repaint a re amemiya rx7, yellow to resemble the car from Initial D. Like the spoiler that was patched out the game pretty fast.
    In terms of the car list, I can't complain too much about it but I do think there are some odd choices to it. Like there's the Mclaren F1 GTR, The Mercedes CLK GTR but then there's the Porsche 911 GT1 Road Car....why? Why not get the race version to round out the set? Also it really annoys me that after 10 years the fan car variants of the Red Bull X1's have been completely omitted. I can understand their omission in GT Sport but in GT7? Why? They bring back the Chapparal 2J but not their own original race car design? Same goes for the Formula Gran Turismo. In an era of user created liveries, not bringing back a generic formula 1 car seems like such a mis-step.

    Thanks for this insight. I've been holding off buying GT7 for over a year now in the hope that the game would be more complete by the time I got around to buying it. As the price dropped to a more affordable level last week, I went out and bought it anyway. It's still too early for me to judge fully as I'm still working through those damn menu books but I definitely have mixed feelings. My first impressions are that GT7 seems to be a missed opportunity. It could have been the best GT game in gaming history but it feels like it fell a little short in places. Maybe the game development was hampered by having too many cooks involved (i.e. death by committee), or maybe the pandemic killed the production momentum. Maybe they just ran out of time and the only way to finally launch was to recycle old assets. I don't know. My only hope is that the game will continually evolve and that PD takes on board constructive critiques like this directly from the fan base so that they can deliver what we truly want, rather than just what they want.

    There is something that i have noticed while using a wheel, if you lose control of the car and you let go of the wheel, the wheel tries to correct the car to the center of the track. Sometimes i've spun, let the wheel go, the car is perpendicular to tarmac and the wheel turnes the car in the direction of the track. I've never had a wheel before but it feels really weird when that happens, also that never happened to me irl, but i assume that it definitely doesn't happen

    • @LordofDestruction123
      @LordofDestruction123 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      It's self-centering torque. The front wheels want to go straight, even if the car is not going straight. In daily commuter driving, you may see some people exit a corner by simply relaxing their grip and allowing the wheel to spin back to center before grabbing the wheel again. It works the same if the car is oversteering. The friction of the road surface will point the tires in the direction of least resistance. If you watch some IRL drift videos, you'll see some drivers just let go of the wheel, wait for it to spin on its own into the countersteer, and then catch it. The difference in GT7 is, unless you're using a direct drive wheel, your FFB wheel will not spin fast enough, so the car will oversteer too much. You must manually throw the wheel into opposite lock.

    • @juni_2452

      @@LordofDestruction123 i know what self-centering torque is and i do that thing where you let go of the wheel at the end of a corner irl. But in game it feels like the car wants to turn it self in the direction of the race track, for example, i expect that if i spin and let go of the wheel and the car is perpendicular to the track the wheel will swing side to side but that doesn't mean it will end up parallel to the race track, i expect it to go where the path of least resistance is, but in the game when i let go it really feels like there is someone driving the car and trying to get it back to the center of track . Btw i only use ABS in gt7. I don't really have this issue in dirt 2.0, maybe i'm going crazy😂

    • @LordofDestruction123
      @LordofDestruction123 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@juni_2452 assuming you have steering and countersteer assists disabled, you shouldn't encounter anything like that. I would expect there must be some coincidence between the wheel you're using along with the car and any elevation changes midcorner at whatever track this is happening at. But as I said before, unless you're using a direct drive wheel, your wheel will not spin fast enough for any throw and catch drifting to work. The motor just won't be strong enough for that. So the feedback won't be realistic in certain situations.

    Music licensing has sadly just become a problem with modern gaming, caused by greedy music labels and the streaming excuse. The days of a modern soundtrack accompanying any game seems to be over, until AI can create license free music of a quality that is better than the stuff that has to be paid for currently.
    As for up to date cars, perhaps polyphony would make more people happy if they ran polls on what cars players actually want before investing the considerable time involved in making the 3d model and the sounds and the physical emulation of the car.
    But honestly, most likely we will get sophy in gt8, and have to wait for gt9 before the full benefits of AI generated objects find there way into the Gran Turismo work flow.
    But if you look at what is happening in unreal engine, perhaps there will be a new driving franchise that does use all the new technology and gives us a racing game that is better in every way than what we have at the moment.

    Why is the menu for purchasing upgrades so unintuitive?
    Why are differently colored wheels not grouped together in the customizing shop?
    Why is there so little variety in wheels, which are car-agnostic?
    Why can't I group or copy decals in the editor?
    Why do all cars (even 4WD) keep spinning out or sliding, even under high grip/low power conditions?
    Why are the licenses and the races so damn hard (almost impossible after the Alfa Romeo menu)?
    Why does 200km/h still feel like 50km/h?
    Why does the AI keep using the PIT maneuver, or just pushing me out of the way?
    If the GT7 economy is good (and not focused on microtransactions):
    Why are certain cars so expensive (even in terms of real money)?
    Why do I earn so little when I race?
    Why do I get the absolute lowest prize 95% of the time in the roulette?
    If GT7 is a "return to form":
    Why can't I sell cars?
    Why do I have to wait for older models to be included in the Used Cars rotation? Why can’t I just race and buy whatever I want?
    Why is the music so uninspired?
    Why do I have the café man giving me tasks and showing me presentations like an MS Teams call with my boss?

    I don't know if this is a controversial opinion or not to be fair but i was hoping they would bring back "non-premium" cars. I brought this up once when they announced GT7 and Jimmy Broadbent basically answered me "quality over quantity, get rid of them". But i would disagree, not with the idea itself but with the added context of game development added. One of the things that made GT so appealing was the fact that so many people could find their own car in it at least the Japanese and European. With the used market there was a seemingly endless supply of oddities and rare gems to stumble upon and make your own. While there is an argument to be made about the presence of old models encouraging devs to be lazy and not make new models but in the context of video game cars i don't think it's such a concern as for a given games development cycle there are probably 3 or 4 model years coming out of just about every car. Does it really matter if the e46 M3 looks dated if it means you're getting more newer BMWs on top of it. Besides, playing GT6 or even GT4 emulated with upscaled graphics will show that these old models can look brilliant just by upscaling textures and just running them in a new game engine. In an ideal scenario imo, GT7 would have had all (license permitting) cars from GT6, and the newer models added, with let's say a good selection of the more exceptional older models being remade. This imo is what would have allowed them to build another single player experience that was as engaging as the older games. To my understanding, the only limitations with this idea is again licensing costs and conditions, disk space and what i think matters to them most, multiplayer balance.
    Balance is hardly a consideration in single player since the game basically requires you to overpower you car to win the chase, and they could simple ban old models from ranked play online.
    It's still incredible to think we can have as much as 400 cars so well made into one game but at the end of the day "quality over quantity" quickly loses it's appeal if you don't have a truly compelling experience with these cars. GT7 and mostly every GT imo never had AIs, a narrative or the level of realism that would keep people driving for very long without the added appeal of having so many cars to experience.

    • @Roflwaffle16
      @Roflwaffle16  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's certainly an interesting discussion to have and nowhere near as black and white as PD would have you believe. The thing about Gran Turismo is that it was never the most 'realistic' simulation, it never produced the best racing, but what it did have was an interesting and diverse world of cars to explore and enjoy. That, to me, was always one of the biggest appeals of Gran Turismo.
      Fast forward to today and we have these ultra-detailed models that far exceed anything that have come before them. We're now at the point where we can distinguish individual stitches on a dashboard or tiny markings on headlights and taillights, but it really needs to be asked if anybody (beyond just the super-anal) really cares and, more importantly, if anybody would even notice if they didn't draw so much attention to it? It really makes you wonder if the sacrifice is worth it when managing to shave even just one month of the process would allow them to make vastly more cars than they currently do. Just because they can make car models to this level of detail doesn't mean that they necessarily should.
      Even still, the real failure of GT7 is how they use the cars they already have. Let's not forget that GT3 had roughly about 180 cars and still managed to be much more of a complete game than GT7 is and probably ever will be. How they use each car is so important, so when you see that there are literally no events for Gr. 2 racing cars as well as many classics which have their prices inflated so dramatically, it's just embarrassingly bad game design.

  • @mrctuned2844
    @mrctuned2844 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    From a real automotive tuner perspective, I personally love how realistic the upgrade parts are. Putting expensive suspension on your car doesn't in itself make it faster or better. It requires time and an understanding of how to set it up.l properly. I like how PD did it in GT7, because it means that not just anyone can throw parts on a car and make it too fast. It's usually faster to master a factory road car then to just throw parts at it and expect it to be better. It makes factory spec cars more attractive in that sense. And if you want to make a beast out of a road car, it's going to take time. I see this all the time in my tuning shop.

    • @Roflwaffle16
      @Roflwaffle16  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not doubting that to be the case IRL, my problem is that for a game it gets needlessly complicated and not fun unless you already have an in-depth understanding of tuning in GT7, which is ironic considering it's been stated many times how one of the goals of GT7 is to get new people into cars and helping them to understand tuning is part of that.
      Also when we consider how broken the 'performance point' system still is (such as sometimes putting on better suspension and brakes will decrease your car's PP level but it'll still be faster over a lap) it becomes even less intelligible for beginners.
      With the example I showed, no amount of tuning that 512BB will fix the issues. It is fundamentally broken, as if the game didn't anticipate people putting high-grip tyres and low, stiff suspension on so it simply can't handle it.

    You forgot one major issue with time trial that made me stop playing the game. When you're in a PP category, you literally can't scroll past 50 times. So if you practice alot and want to compare times between tunes and cars you literally can't only the first 50 or so times per 100pp level. Its like the game was designed by people who never touched a video game

    I’m really glad that I found your channel, you hit the exact same spots I’ve wanted in GT videos. It was one of my favourite gaming franchises but they seemingly dropped the ball since GT6 onward.
    Short rant:
    Not even talking about the content or the game specifically, but why the hell do you release the game for the PS3 when the PS4 was already out and NEVER make it available for the newer console. Jesus Christ…
    I’ve just come around playing the game in the past few weeks because I finally found a working dual sense controller for the PS3, because GT games don’t even accept the PS4 controller on the PS3…

    I'm convinced GT7 is simply GT Sport 2.0 & not in a good way in spite of how much I adore actually racing in GT7.
    Even the in-game design in VR is identical to GT Sport; fine for time trials & offline play like GT Sport had, but the crucial missing data exclusive to VR is an inescapable disadvantage at best when racing in an online racing series (our FNR series to-date requires at least one person to be out of VR to collect the data, not to mention in-race strategy, safety & more).

    Love it!
    Yep there has been many features cut from the older games.
    Alone like the group function from GT Sport for decals.
    Lots of stuff doesn’t make sense to me, the payouts and all of custom races included. And the worst thing about always online is the applying of a livery.
    I’ve got a friend who makes super detailed livery’s and gets super into it, recreating some historic ones to great detail, yet his worst enemy is “applying 33%”. He has rather bad internet and at some point, the Gran Turismo servers simply cuts the server connection, because it takes too long and he is stuck in an infinite loading loop.
    unfortunately, closing the game at this state, seems to lock him out of GT Auto for a couple days, to the point, where he cant access the livery editor anynore.
    We also do a little "550PP Amateur world Series" cup league thing where the condition is, everyone must use race tires, 550PP max.
    the Mazda Atenza XD is broken af. you put tuning parts into it and it looses PP like crazy or gains little to nothing. Aero parts make it loose PP as well. we tried to rebuild the set up of one contestant and somehow the car has more torque than the Tomahawk (something with 91 kgfm I think)
    at the Le Mans race of the league we discovered, that at least online with our configuration, wind apparently only has two settings there. blowing from north or east.
    if you copy a set-up, it doesn't copy the gear box settings for some players.
    and tires get cold/warm. yet there is no way to fetch that data out of the mfd. you need some 3rd party app to read it.
    if you set the weather to have light rain, and later dry, it sometimes rains like out if a shower. or doesnt rain at all.
    in any case, that was a very interesting video and I've very much enjoyed the series thus far ^^

      @@UzumakiNagato "The all topic of music during racing is pointless to me, as you can use spotify"
      I don't know dude, there's plenty of people who got hooked up on the game because of the soundtrack. I fell in love with GT1 back at the end of the 90s because of its iconic menu sounds. Then, there was the GT2, with classics like The Cardigans or Rob Zombie. It was perfect. I could play all night while listening to Dragula. I can safely say that GT1 and GT2 soundtracks were 50% responsible for my love to the franchise.
      Then, there was Forza Horizon 4 - my first FH on Xbox. I adored the soundtrack there - Sister Cities, Deathwish, Run for Cover. I spent at least 50h just driving around the map, listening to the rock radio station in this game.
      Music is very important.

    Another annoyance with the music is that you cannot turn off menu BGM songs like you can with the race BGM. I wouldn't have guessed there were 170 menu tracks because I always hear the same handful over and over. And the song changes every time you change screens/areas.

  • @themark443

    Just my theory but I think the reason most of the soundtrack is from the last 3 games is because they wanted to celebrate the series 25th anniversary. I do wish there were some newer tracks...I mean, they work under Sony's umbrella, surely they can get some strings pulled.
    I get pretty annoyed with the paint/livery editor as well. Same with the suit/helmet editor. Like why do I have to scroll through 3 different menus when I could just change them on the fly in Sport? Also, I love the purple livery of the Jaguar F-Type GT3 and want to keep it but change a few of the sponsorship decals...instead, they make you delete the entire livery. The lack of searching by date and likes is also annoying.
    Lastly, the car list. I remember the absolute backlash when GT6 came out and there were Premium and Standard cars. Premium had full interiors and standard had no interior. I totally get how they overcorrected and why they did...but hey if they decide to outsource for assistance in getting every detail, good for them.

    I think the worst thing about the use of the music is the fact that it changes track pretty much everyrime you enter or leave a new screen. So generally you hear about 5 seconds of the start of a track and then another one starts, it's infuriating and there's no need for it.

  • @SnowTheGoon
    @SnowTheGoon ปีที่แล้ว +3

    my main issue with the music is that every single time you are in a new screen the song changes, which is incredibly annoying whenever you are upgrading and adjusting your cars.
    I understand what they tried to do with the used car dealership and it is nothing new to the series, however at a certain point you should be able to just aquire whatever you want. A stupid system where you pay a ingame character to go out and find the car you want for a higher price would be fine if they really want to keep the realism but just having to wait and possibly miss it due to not having a roadmap is incredibly outdated and honestly retarded.

    Thank you for these videos. I haven't played a GT game after GT4. I couldn't easily afford the newer consoles and found the games not appealing enough to strive to save up for them. It sucks to see that one of the game series that gave me the most enjoyment of my childhood (GT2 and 4) has become so frustrating. The repainting is a great example. I didn't mind not being able to repaint cars, it's never been a thing in GT when I played it. But being able to actually go through all the colours by manufacturer and buy exactly what you want perfectly expands the "car catalog you can play with" feeling that I think GT always wanted to convey. But when you go to try and repaint it... What a nightmare. It's worse than Forza! And Forza doesn't even make you jump through the hoops of creating a livery if you just want to swap colours and not add decals. The removal of factory decals annoyed the crap put of me in Forza and now you're telling me GT does it too... Just wow 😂

      911 Strassenversion is a great example and the Plymouth Bird. Even worse, we don't get to change strictly stock manufacture paint/decal combos at least like Motorsport.
