In a remarkable event in soaring (40C/104F) heat he not only broke the World Record in the Axle Press - he also dominated a stellar field which included 4 time WSM champion Brian Shaw.

I'm sure if the axle press was a more popular event during the 2010's, Big Z's record would have been much higher than 215kg.
Oh with out a doubt ! Shit even if he would have had someone to REALLY push him it would have been heavier
I think a problem they started running into was it caused a few too many bicep tears. A few comps tried having an axle press off blocks but it wasn't the same.
Could see Z matching his log record of 228kg in the axle. He was never pushed in either events by any of his peers.
Most of the competitors were hardly lifting 200 kg and none was pushing him sadly.. Had he been pushed by other athletes definitely yes
This is an excellent comment, and I agree wholeheartedly!
It's a shame he was competing only with himself for essentially his entire prime in overhead events.

What happened to Paul Pirjol? Only 19 and already doing Giant live events and 2x romanias strongest man in 2011?? Seems like he was headed to do big things in the sport
Fun fact: This was the last time Z did an Axle for Max on his career. But giving how dominant he was on an heavy axle for reps at Arnold's, if he had a chance to break this record he would have pressed something above 220kg

he suffered some kind of injury, if I remember correctly something to the neck area/the spine and he couldn't train.

Judging from Big Z 215 kg axle press, I think he can do more than that, he got more in the tank. If only this is not a full comp just focus for the single axle press event

Thanks for uploading these. I like the idea of cutting the field for the last event, but why not double points so it's 12,10,8,6,4,2? Giving 6,5,4,3,2,1 made it really anti-climactic. Obviously it's irrelevant now, but this seems like it could be a good way of making the stones finale more interesting in current competitions.
