  • Brandi and Josh have family land that is older than the US Constitution; dating back to 1753. The farm has seen many technological advancements, including what they are using, automatic fence movers. Josh wants to maximize all grazing potential, so he moves the cows 4 times a day. He manages the moves in the morning and checks on the cows in the evening, but the automatic fence movers do the rest. Because of this management style, he is able to graze 700,000 pounds of beef per acre; an astronomical number, even in the regenerative world.

Halter and gallagher in new Zealand have cow collars that do this without fences all done on your phone

They could use to add sheep or birds more often to help increase stocking rates while diversifying. Instead of the super high stocking density all the time, they could take the top 1/3rd and get better animal performance while getting a decent trample and improving digestion. The movement is one of the best improvements, but as soon as you get stuck in a prescription/formula, that's when you plateau and lose some of your soil improvement. I wish they'd mention more about soil health, rainwater infiltration, sylvopasture, free choice mineral, etc. Why stick with black when they can do red in their environment?

What is your rest time between grazing? What is your breed back rate?

Oh those are great questions! I’ll have to ask them!
