@@BabitaShettysRecipes ok so I made this today and it was amazing! However I didn't have all the ingredients. So it was without ginger, used lime instead of lemon and arrow root instead of cornstarch. But it was still soo good.
@sarahjamesjazz, unfortunately I have not made a how to clean mackerel video because I cannot find Indian Mackarels anymore in the store anymore. If I find and will make a video and tag you
I use a cleaver for cutting fish. Although for mackerel it is not needed. I also use kitchen scissors to trim out the fins. If any fish has scales, I use a small, narrow knife to remove those.
I passed by a bag of frozen, whole chub mackerel in the store today because I wasn't sure how i could cook it. Next time I am there, I'll be grabbing a bag! Thank you auntie!
Omg Babita your recipes are amazing I’m a goan but settled overseas so I grew up eating seafood but don’t have a skills to make them as yummy . Your recipes are a journey into the beautiful tome growing up eating al the yumminess ❤
So happy to read your comment. The struggle for good quality Indian seafood overseas is real 🙂. Thankfully here in NJ we have some Asian stores who have started stocking good quality frozen seafood and I am able to make these recipes.
If it’s ok to ask, which store did you buy the frozen mackerel from? I’m from the same area and there are a lot of asian markets to choose from so I’m not sure which one to go to. Also did you have to gut them yourself? thanks :)
When I made this video, the frozen mackerels were available in The Asian Food Market store in Plainsboro. However, recently I have not see them carry it. You can also check 99 Ranch Market in Edison. Since these come whole and frozen in a packet, I had to clean and gut them myself.
This looks like a flavourful, simple recipe. I love mackerel but have bought Indian mackerel for the first time.. I imagine these are very bony (like the big ones), so would you filet the meat off before eating or would you usually try chew the bones?
Thanks a lot. Today in Indian stores, near lawerencville patidar I saw frozen bangude whole and cleaned options from seafood delight brand . Have you tried it before ?
@@BrienneOfTarth5, I have not bought frozen fish from that particular store. However, in the past I have bought frozen fish from Patidhar near me and it was disappointing. I have bought frozen sardines as well as bangude and those felt old and tasteless.

Great tip for cooking frozen Mackrell. Thanks

Thank you!
This looks so good. I wish you would've showed how you cleaned them. How long do they take to thaw in the fridge?
Sure will make a video soon

You have to pick off the bones before eating. I wouldn't try to chew them. Can get stuck in your throat
Simple n nice recipe...

How to defrost them?
Remove them from freezer and place in warm water for 2 to 3 hours.
I bought frozen makeral unaware I needed to thaw and clean them. 🥴
so how do you use them, if you don't clean them?
