Great review. I love this scent, but like you said, it has a time and a place. I consider this a movie night scent. There are weekend nights in the fall/winter that I’m outside working for the day. When I’m finally done, I eat my meal, take a shower and shave with this scent and then just lie there watching a movie. The natural scent is so calming.
I used to get in trouble with my mum when in the woods. I would get sticky pine resin all over my hands. So, everything about this soap sounds wonderful.
I really like the smell of pine cones, since there used to a lot of very old pine trees on the grounds around my house when I was growing up. If I opened my window and the wind was blowing lightly I would always be able to smell the distinct smell. Very refreshing.
Paradise looks nice. That’s a cool looking scooper. With essential oil fragrances they do not last as long as a fragrance oil scent. I notice this more so with some of my beard oils. Have a great week Tobin!
Hey Manny! Totally, I've noticed the same thing. Today while driving through Portland I wished more than a couple times to be back at this spot.😅 Have a good one brother!
Love the view, and the sound of the river. To me the sound of a river is calming and relaxing. Just can imagine how that helps make your shave even more Enjoyable. I need to find a place in Illinois for a outdoor shave, just to try something new. Bet it can be a wonderful experience.
Hey Daniel! Shaving outdoors takes the "Zen" in wet shaving to a whole new level! I highly recommend it! If you ever do, I'd really enjoy seeing some pictures of the place you shave at. Have a good one!
It's raging! Thankfully there is a few shallow spots down stream and a creek not too far away. I wouldn't let Luna go near this part, but we were able to find some great spots for her to play
I absolutely love the beauty and sound of the location. The river sounds are very meditative. I have been working my way through a sample of Coniferous and Scots Pine Sheep. I love the complex smells of Coniferous... very earthy along with the evergreens. I also like the Scots Pine Sheep. I'm not sure if I'll buy tubs of both... but definitely the Coniferous. I am fan of the piney, woodsy scents. I also enjoy Gin and Tonic... the juniper berries are wonderful. Have a great week Tobin!!
Hey Brian! While editing the video I couldn't stop listening to that river roar! I need to pick up a sample of the Scots with my next order. Have a great week and thank you!
That is a truly God given scene in the mountains with the river in the background & all the trees! I have the shave soap & it reminds me of the WVa. mountains with all the pine trees. THANKS FOR A FANTASTIC VIDEO. God Bless You!
How gorgeous is that background Tobin! I have Stirling Coniferous and absolutely love it. I smelled it first at Aaron’s house (DoubleAShaves) and had to get it. What a great way to greet the morning. Be good, Glenn
Thanks, Glenn! Have you tried the Scots? If so, thoughts? I think it's so cool that you live close enough to another wet shaver like Aaron to be able to do that I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit envious😊 but the same time I'm kind of thankful because of the fomo😅 Take care my friend!
@@Tobins_throwbacks Hey Tobin, Have not tried Scots. By the way, I’m going to make you more jealous…. I had lunch with Bill M, another wet shaver. He has a great TH-cam channel that specializes in straight razor shaving. He is about 2 hours away but we met in the middle. Have I told you lately how much I LOVE THIS HOBBY?
Great shave Tobin!! Very happy to see that you’re a coniferous fan! Such an under appreciated scent from Stirling in my opinion. It’s amazing. My wife loves it also. To me it smells like the inside of a pine tree. Just beautiful stuff. I totally agree that the cedar adds a lot of depth to the scent. Easily one of the best that Stirling ever produced. Love this location too! Have a great week!
Thanks, Aaron! Definitely one of my favorites and something I'd recommend to just about everyone, especially those who love the outdoors. Hope your week is off to a great start!
Awesome! This is like a shave for me! The soap is right up my alley and I could see getting the body soap too. I would pair it with Hinoki Pine as that has a cologne vibe to it and could be used that way for an all day scent. The razor is my kind of thing too and I've shimmed my Canadian tech close to that gap and use a Wizamet in it. It's efficient, but nothing scary. Nice brush too and sounds like one I would like. Beautiful setting too, although I'm more of a deep woods kind of guy and not much for rivers. "Deep inside the forest there's a doorway to another land"-something like that. Great show and based on a real man and he had a greyhound as one of his companions. I'm glad you like the axe scoop! I had got the idea when I did Mjolner and had done some sketches with you in mind. I was thinking a double bit more on the regular side, but then when I was making it, it turned into more of a battle axe. Sure, you got a smoking deal, but I know you're not made of money and it's more of a friendship kind of thing. Plus you'll probably get me back sometime-lol! Take care my friend!
Ian! I've actually considered doing exactly that with hinoki great minds think alike. If you end up buying this razor let me know your thoughts on it. Maybe there's a World where we don't have to run😀 That's based on a real guy? I had no IDEA! I placed an order today with PAA, having a new set of Bay Gum mailed directly to you from them. I'm going to have to give that Axe a name! For real tho! Have a good one brother and THANKS AGAIN!
@@Tobins_throwbacks Well, that's at least what I can remember from when I was a kid. I remember my dad showing me a picture of him (old drawing) with his long rifle, dog, bear, and a falcon perched on his shoulder. Kind of a Daniel Boone type. I wish my dad was still around to ask about it. He night have been a French fur trapper? I watched the show when it first came out and later in reruns. I don't know if Mad Jack was a real character, but I think Nacoma was.
I got the Scots Pine in the sheep tallow for my first Stirling soap. Should have got a sample pack instead lol. I wasn't very familiar with the pine scent before getting it(grew up in north Texas, loads of cedar in my childhood but not pine). Very potent smell that I didn't really get along with. Didn't understand why anyone would like it lol. It grew on me a little, still don't really care for it though. I don't know why but I seriously struggle to make even a somewhat decent lather in a bowl...with this stirling soap I get a pretty good lather puck loading. Being new to this still with about 2 months in, yet I have 4 soaps and 3 razors(Yates 921-M order will make it 4 when it finally arrives), I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. I've been trying a method I read on badgerandblade of using more soap and tiny amount of water and slowly adding more water until it gets the right consistency. It's said that this way is foolproof. Yet when I try I just end up with a cushionless, unslick, air bubbly lather. Not creamy at all. Way too airy. Idk what I'm doing wrong.
Pine usually works best when combined with other fragrances. I still haven't tried the Scots Pine. One of these days, I may order a Yates; everyone I talk to who owns one loves it. With the lather, when you say it's airy, it immediately makes me think that you need to work it longer. That's what I do when it's airy, and it works every time. Question: Are you loading from the tub or scooping?
Nice shave Tobin. What a beautiful place to shave. The razor sounds too aggressive for me. My new Timeless bronze .38 is perfect for me. Just picked up 2 Sterling Soaps at the Maggard meetup. Iced Coffee and Eucalyptus Mint. I used the Iced Coffee and it has a huge menthol kick. Have not had a chance to use the Eucalyptus Mint as yet. Have a great week. 👍
@@Tobins_throwbacks The Iced Coffee ha thr great scent of coffee brewing and my wife loves it too. Just be aware of the menthol kick, it is very strong, I haven’t had a chance to try the Eucalyptus MINT but the soap smell great in the tub. The double bit scoop is awesome! I've been using hard pucks for so long, I'm a newbie to croaps. I just tried out some PAA soap and love it! I'll have to venture over to Stirling and try some of theirs. Thanks for the vid!

Very nice review Tobin. That is an amazing looking brush. Stirling soaps are great to lather as well. Im looking into getting my first synthetic brush. I been debating on a PAA brush or a Yaqi brush.
