Gents, We are going to increase the fragrance amount to the highest level on the EDPs, so you'll be getting a stronger version than Tobin has. Splash isn't meant to last, so no change there. We'll definitely send additional fragrance oil to use with soap if you find that the scent level is bothersome.
Tobin, you said this isn't a normal collaboration. In my mind, every launch is a collaboration. You are one of the few that has truly invested the study time to really be an expert. For this reason. My first call when trying to figure something out is to you.
Thank you for your honesty Tobin so many content creators do not shoot from the hip like you do and it's one of the reasons why we call you the 🐐!!! Great review!
🐐 - Well just watching your videos always had me thinking and buying splashes and I've been really enjoying them, welp now I'm starting to become a baby frag head 😂😂. I've been buying a lot of decants recently, I'm going to buy some from the Valentino Uomo to try the other scents from that line, also I recently got a decant of PDM Percival, which I really enjoy. I'm going to pick up a decent of PDM Altair as well. Can I just say I'm REALLY excited about the next collaboration 🤯🤯. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
Very good! Sounds like another great one! I'd probably have to check this one to see if it's in my wheelhouse as this one doesn't have a ton of notes I usually like. Though that doesn't mean much, because I've had ones I didn't think would work be great and some that should be good, not so much-lol! Awesome that you were able to get out there and do a shave. I think the water was a lot higher last time you were out there. Hope all is well brother! Take care!
Thanks Ian, the water was definitely higher that was for lather blaster. It's crazy looking at old videos and comparing, the wife and I were just doing that the other day. Happy Thanksgiving!
Another great video, Tobin! Hope you are well. THANKS a ton for touching on the difficulty of making a splash, people need to better understand the amount of effort involved in making a splash. Trying to make a splash that smells good, that’s strong enough scent-wise, plus somehow still be somewhat nourishing for your skin is a fairly difficult, precise art! I know how to make splashes, I choose not to, because for me, they’re not worth the trouble and upset customers. The whole ball of wax is a difficult thing for an artisan (especially a one-man operation) to contend with. Along with being quite difficult to fit all the elements a customer craves and expects in to the bottle, plus be affordable, they’re also difficult & expensive to ship, and can get broken. Glass unfortunately is the ideal storage container for a splash because if you were to put it in a plastic bottle, the plastic bottle and the splash can intermingle, creating a nasty, poisonous cocktail you don’t want touching your cuts or skin, regarding one’s made w/essential oils, anyway, (not sure if fragrance oils are the same). 🤮 All that being said, I like splashes and have fond memories of my dad slapping’ on some original Old Spice after a shave. While I don’t care to wear it myself, it instantly reminds me of him, which I love and I’m quite grateful for. So, while I don’t wanna deal with’em, I’m glad many other fine artisans have the perseverance and balls to do so, thank you, ladies and gentlemen, excellent work and much appreciated! Also, thank you for your commitment to honest reviews, you’re still one of the few doing it! 👍 God bless and all the best, Tobin. See ya next time, James
Hey James! Thank you and well said. I think you are right A lot of guys don't realize the struggle of putting together a splash. Only company I can think of that uses plastic is SW. But, there splash is more of a "milk" imo. Happy Thanksgiving brother!
Ive watched your content for a few months, I just created a TH-cam account so that I could comment to say how impressed I am with you and your content. Like you say "good stuff Maynard" -Tobin 👍👍
Great to see you doing an outdoor shave again! I have several of Pete's EDP's and they are all beasts! Is it the fragrance itself that makes this one lighter or do you think it's less of certain oils, ingredients, etc? Just curious..... anyway, hoping you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will catch you on the two lives coming up this week!
Thanks Nathan! That's a great question. I'm honestly not positive. If I had to guess or speculate I'd say it just needs a higher concentration of fragrance oil... BUT, I haven't asked Pete what percentage he went with. Happy Thanksgiving brother!
Like you Tobin, I did a tremendous amount of research on Vaqueros. Based on my research, the image is accurate other than having a large saddle horn and less silver on their actual clothing. I read from several different sources that they take their personal appearance seriously and express that by having silver highlights where they can, though probably not as much as the clothing in this image.
@@HendrixClassics yeah that's the only real difference, is the abundance of silver highlights and that the original Vaquero were in California and they were Spanish and Native American. Mexican Vaquero weren't the norm when the Missions were being built. The "ERA" of the Vaquero ended just before the Gold Rush and the Whites coming out West. Essentially 1769 to 1821. This even predates the Texas Cowboy by roughly 80 years. Similar to how people think they are "cowboys" today just because they were boots and a hat. When they are actually Drugstore Cowboys. They can't rope or ride 😉 The two videos in the description are great, the first one is from 2 "Wild West" historians and a real Vaquero. The second demonstrates what they wore. That first video is but one in a series. The next book they are working on his Montana and Wyoming. Many people confuse Buckaroo, and a Mexican Caballero for a Vaquero is what I learned. The Caballero is at the Top of the Socioeconomic ladder and the Vaquero was at the bottom. The Vaquero worked for the Caballero. Is what I learned. The Vaquero wore plain clothing especially in the heat of Southern California. While the Caballero lived the good life in comparison. Thanks again Pete, love this fragrance!
I'm excited for your next collaboration with Pete! Absolutely love Opulence Harbinger. This fragrance sounds right up my alley. Shooting guns, burning wood and enjoying time with family, sounds like a great time! Happy Thanksgiving 🦃
Thank you! I want the next collaboration to live up to Opulence, even if only in my mind 😊 It was an amazing day, while it work today I can't help it wish I was back out there! Have a great week!
I don’t know if it is just me but I feel it is a trend that soaps and splashes are getting weaker in scent strength. Great video. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Steve, I'm not happy with lack of scent strength. We are currently working on expanding our network of fragrance providers in order to keep this from happening.
Its not just you, it's a trend that has been going on in the fragrance community for a while now and it's slowly been catching up with us in this community over the past year or two. "Lighter" Unisex frags are mainstream at the moment. Happy Thanksgiving Steve!
Tobin, beautiful setting in which to shave. Glad you love the Athena. I also bought the ST-2 brush 25 mm as you did. I agree that it is very floppy but super soft. I gave into BRAD and bought the ST-2 27mm brush. That size differential makes all the difference. The extra density gives the knot some backbone, not a lot just a bit more. The softness is the same as the ST-2. For anyone interested in the Oumo ST-2, I would highly recommend the 27mm or more. There is no comparison between the ST-1 and the ST-2. Very different knots but both excellent in their own.
Great review. Love your descriptions of the fragrance. I wish I could buy all your recommendations. Hope you and you r family have a wonderful Thanksgiving. 🦃🥧👍
Question, can you provide a list of the fragrances that you have done for Hendricks Classics? And then maybe do like a top five or your favorites video?
I am still unable to use anything strongly scented at home, so I took my Opulence Harbinger frag with me yo school and applied it there, causing me to smell marvellous all day long.
Always appreciate your honesty Tobin. That’s what makes your channel worth following. Also, will forever LOVE your outdoor shaves! Have an absolutely wonderful Thanksgiving. My best regards to your whole family!
