While the album version is probably better on a musical standpoint, I think this version captures the 80's vibe a lot better. Like, the guitar riffs would be right at home in a Kenny Loggins song.
This song might imply that Ronald Reagan has no clue how to govern, *but* it doesn't ever state it and I think that's the second best thing about this song.
I think he knew how to govern (although that’s a low bar now), it’s just that he did it in an incredibly laissez-faire/modern conservative way. I think it’s more poking fun at how over the top he was.
So i just spent the last ten or so minutes synching this version with the album version and crossfading between the two to compare. It sounds like Neil went back and re-recorded at least some minor backing vocals, and the Spirit Phone version is definitely more fleshed out than this one. This version sounds a little empty in comparison to the album version's backing synth sounds. TL;DR This shit is rad but 4 years of polish made it even radder.
I feel the exact opposite. I felt that the new release kind of lost the grittiness and raw energy that the demo had. It lost the bounce to it, became more softcore. But it did seam really well with the rest of the album, so it's fine I guess I can definitely appreciate the amount of effort that went into it, though
+Sharkalien I think the switch from synth to guitar made the album version a lot more powerful than this one. However, there's way more organ sound in this. I like to switch back and forth between the two.

US KWEEN TWIN
Everytime I see that one t***p ad that opens with a clip of a Reagan speech, mentally humming this song gets me through
The fact that this was in my recommendations is amazing and I love it
I'm glad to know the economy isn't real and neil just made it up for this song.
1:26 now that's a powerful ass slap

Neil Cicierega is so cool.
My history teacher literally played this today and I was so happy when he did :3
What unholy mind (lemon) demons did you use to get them to play Neil Cicierega
@@FishVirus none, he already had it planned with the lesson

this, cabinet man, touch-tone telephone, earn my life, and eight wonder are my favorite songs in Spirit Phone. Both versions of this song are great.

E-Excuse me?
This video aged like a fine wine
I can't explain why, but this is the best song ever made

I love how when there are two overlapping lyrics it always shows lyrics onscreen for the one that makes reagan look better

HEY GET OFF MY LAWN
Lemon demon... WE have been together for a long time. And the flame still burns bright
I can't stop singing this song, and now I'm in a mental institution. They think I perceive myself as Ronald Reagan because I answer every question with I'M RONALD REAGAN BABY.
No, they think you're Reagan too, they're just scared of your Kung-Fu skills.
ronald reagan kinnie ⬆️⬆️
Happened to me once. Got diagnosed with “Ronald Reagan syndrome”

There was another demo of this song that can out in bloody 2011
Just patiently waiting for that seventh Lemon Demon album...
Will Neill We've been waiting for too damn long. I just pray to Neil it will grace us soon.
Krotor Kreepy he mentioned in his needle drop interview a few days ago that its gonna be his next project

I just watched that, yeah. I was the one guy in the comments who talked about following Neil wherever he goes as he is my god and I must.
+Will Neill The wait is over. Check the Lemon Demon Bandcamp. Spirit Phone drops February 29th. A month from when i'm typing this thing.

Thank you, Jaysus!
1:26 the beat combined with the slap is so fucking funny to me

*metal pipe falling sound effect synced uo to the slap*
Hey Neil idk if you ever go back and read the comments on 8 yr old videos but just in case, still listening to this, this is a bop, and you are loved.
love you too bro
I was confused by the footage contained herein for a second there, until I remembered, "Oh, right, Reagan was an actor before he was a Capitalist monster that destroyed our collective futures".
That footage was made specifically for this video, Neill reached out to Ronald for a cameo and Reagan (being a huge lemon demon fan) accepted
This video is the best Acid Trip back to 1985 I've ever experienced.
I think the reason people like this version more is the whole visual aspect
It might be nice to see this vid with the new version playing on it
How many conservatives bop this thinking this praises Reagan
I am a conservative and I bop to this song because I dont take politics personally and I like to enjoy good art

It’s still crazy to me how Neil pretty much does this all by himself
¨Iĺl save business... which you will someday own" is definitely my favorite line
This is genuinely beautiful. Like, most music videos don't look this good. I am amazed. Thank you.
I unironically love the editing in this video
It feels like a late 80s MTV music video, I love it

holy crap i did not know ronald regean was an actor and boy was i surprised
There was a joke in Back to the Future about that.
ronald reagan doesn't exist, he's just a guy Neil made up for this song.
@@ClFUR thank god, i cant imagine a world where a guy like him was ever president.
@@ironicdivinemandatestan4262 2 years late but there's also a joke in Wolfenstein: TNC where a senile Hitler is displeased with his audition and shoots him multiple times in the head.
Honestly 3 years on this is still my favourite song on youtube.
Does anyone else feel the album version of this is WAYYYYY more dynamically compressed than this version? I feel like Spirit Phone is rather loud.
TheSecretProvider He released stems for the whole album so someone made a super dynamic (literally twice the headroom) unmastered version
@@MinoTheShow where?
@@MinoTheShow you can't say that and not provide a link
i can’t believe neil made ronald reagan
This is the best produced video of Lemon Demon that i ever see.
Honestly a better cut of Reaganomics, prefer this as a single than the one from Spirit Phone. Good work Neil, love you.
We're ready for the album, Neil!
@@alexanderfooy723 yeah that makes more sense.
i cant believe neil cicierega invented ronald reagan
I love the Spirit Phone version of this, but I will always come back to this version, it’s so amazing in its own way to me.
Almost forgot to watch this today
how? shame on you, sir.
I would say "Thank you Neil for inventing Ronald Reagan" but I would argue thats one of his worst creations
But it did seam really well with the rest of the album, so it's fine I guess
I can definitely appreciate the amount of effort that went into it, though
+Sharkalien I think the switch from synth to guitar made the album version a lot more powerful than this one. However, there's way more organ sound in this. I like to switch back and forth between the two.
no joke i read "but 4 years of polish made it even radder" as referring to the polish language and honestly idk how to feel about that
Squiggs McDolphin Read about when Reagan’s predecessor, Jimmy Carter, went to Poland.
