Here's how I think of the transition from Canon full frame to Fujifilm X-T20, to the X-E series cameras. With the Canon it felt like I was sitting at a big, wide executive desk interviewing my subjects. With the X-T20 I was photographing acquaintances - you know, smiling but still being a bit reserved. With the X-E's I was photographing friends, smiling and laughing with my arm around their shoulders. Really - there's a very big difference in the connection.
I picked up an X-E1 + 27mm pancake a couple months ago, and I've loved it so far! Definitely nice to have big image quality in a small package. Also at under $200 used, the X-E1 is great for budget-minded shooters!
This video made my mind. Sold my Nikon and all gear and bought this little machine with 18-55 lens. Best buy ever. Much lighter for hiking and landscape photography. Great all around camera.
I bought the x-e3 with the 23mm f2 I think it’s a good jumping off point for starting in the Fuji systems. I use it as my personal street/everyday camera. I think it’s convinced me to invest in Fuji further down the line for photography. I hope Fuji will increase their video functions in the future too.
Now that the X-T4 is out, prices are even lower on the X-E3. Right around 500 bucks, it seems. I have a hard time justifying getting one (already have X-E1, X100S, X-T2, and X-T3 bodies to go with six Nikon DSLRs and a few dozen film cameras), but for many photographers it's got to be the biggest bargain around at the moment.
unbroken1010 Sorry, I don’t have an X-E3. If I were in the market for a stills camera only this would be the best choice at way less than even the X-T30. For stills and video maybe have a look at the X-T30.
As longtime Fujifilm user I now have an XE 3 and love it. I started with an XE 1 after a friend bought an X pro 1 and have had an XE 2 and XT 1. I love that even the 18 -55 2.8 to 4 lens is so good and that the XE 3 has the same sensor, autofucus and processor as the flagship models. I love the regular firmware updates that improve functionality and sometimes add features. The XE 2 came with wifi that allowed you to send images to the smartphone, then the XT 1 came with wifi that allowed the phone to control the camera functions via an app, then Fujifilm had a firmware update that enabled this feature in the XE 2. Brilliant.
Nice video. I liked seeing you set it up with that ND filter and showed off their T mode with an example. You also made a good point about Fujifilm's camera range and price structure. They do tend to base it more on use-cases that relate to physical control and mechanical features such as dual card slots or more advanced viewfinders, which makes sense.
Passion for the art of photography, combined with extensive knowledge of the history of photography, influential photographers, technique and current technology. In my humble opinion, the go to man for any one with a serious interest in "the ART of photography." And as a bonus, this video; as I have decided to switch from Nikon to Fuji, and have just bought an x-e3 with a 23mm f2 fujinon and who better to review it. Thanks, Ted.
Thanks Ted, was not fully sure about the X-E3... still work with my small X70 and am happy with it. But his one really looks like it would fit my needs. Good job as usual
I'm loving the XE1 and picked it up in 2017 for only £150. It's a lot of camera for such a bargain price. I'll keep an eye on the XE2, and XE3 and hopefully try one soon.
I'm agree with you. The X - E serie cameras are awesome for street photography, small, easy to use and has the nearest looking as film , the advantage to have the viewfinder like rangefinder camera but viewing through the lens is so helpful, good performing in low light , equally sharp as D800 , even in high ISO, beautiful design, top and bottom sides are metal, very elegant , but nothing is perfect and now I will review my negative points: The eyepiece is a bit small Lacking of an central split -image rangefinder spot and micro prism grid , something that X-T series has And the Focus Piking I wish more evident is difficult to see . Apart of that great camera. Fuji XE1
i’ve been very tempted to get into the fuji system, looked at the X-T1 when the price dropped but have definitely been considering this also so this was very useful to me
I believe I bought the first X-E3 in the Netherlands. Drove 200km because that particular shop had it a day earlier than the rest. When I came in and asked for my order, the guy said “we have the X-E3 already?” Needless to say, it’s been fantastic. Beautiful design, amazing picture quality and a joy to use. Oh, and thanks for the T tip. Didn’t know that.
I would be interested in hearing your opinion on how the APS-C Fuji sensors compear to the Sony full frame sensors. I am planning to do more travel, Cityscape, landscape and documentary photography and Fuji sounds like the ticket. I love the look and feel of the At2 but to be honest, I love the performance of my Sony A7III. My concern is that I may sacrificing image quality, especially a high ISO and for large prints for my landscapes and cityscapes.
@@ahmedrashed78 Printed a 120x80cm large print with an X-E3, and the quality was amazing. So I'm sure that those new sensors will be good enough for huge prints
Hi David. Just FYI, I've printed 24"x36" poster prints from both the X-Pro2 and more recently, the X-T3, and both cameras are up to the task...My poster prints are quite sharp and detailed, and especially so with the new BSI 26MP sensor/engine of the X-T3. Provided you have good lenses, use a solid tripod, and good techniquw in both exposure and post, I think you'd be pleased with the resulting images!
This is tough. The sony a7rii and a7riii are almost impossible to match. As a sony shooter I tried my friends Fuji and i'm getting ready to buy one. Image quality isn't everything, there are pros and cons to both systems
I've been wanting a Fujifilm camera for a long time now but have been waiting for the right one with the right features. Like you, I wanted small camera, great IQ, but also a joystick, and a camera I could have with me at all times. It wasn't feasible carrying my 5DMKIV's everywhere. The fact that you get so many features in such a small package blows my mind. I will say that I have the same issues with the swipe features and something else; I like shooting using the viewfinder but the eyecup is almost non-existent and allows a lot of ambient light in. The jpegs are wonderful with the film simulations and now Capture One Pro supports the X-E3s RAW files. I love this little camera!!!!
Ted, what about video? Your vlogs are what turned me on to fujifilm cameras - used to be a die hard Nikon guy since my FM days - don’t think I’ll ever go back. Thanks for what you do.
Totaly agree started with an XPro2 and bought an x-E3 and now I’m founding myself myself using the xe3 in 9 out of 10 times. One great and cheaper alt to the grip that I got is a high end leather half case it solves all the problems you mentioned minus the arca plate but it looks mutch better. Love the camera and lenses and image quality like you. Thinking of seling the pro2 and get an x100f as backup camera. Keep making you great videos. Per in Sweden, - 28 Celsius No problem with the xe3 thats quality
I have an x100f and an xpro2. I was thinking of selling my x100f as I wanted a small camera that I could use with my lenses for street but now that I think about it it would make sense to sell the xpro2. Plus I love my x100f and carry it everywhere. I shoot studio studio with the pro and street with the f but the way I shoot my pro would work with the xe3 and gain some cash for more lenses. tldr sounds like a good move from xpro2 to xe3
Ted, so glad to have found your channel. I'm pretty new to photography and I'm glad to cut through all the photo-fluff on TH-cam and find something with substance. When's the next meetup/photowalk? I'm in the DFW area and I'd love to tag along sometime. Thanks for all you do.
You can get extended grips for the camera from China on eBay for less that $20. A lot better option than $130 Fuji's price. One thing that really sold me on Fuji was their approach to software upgrades. When they introduce improvements or feature upgrades to new camera models they update the software on all their current models. The XE-2 with software version 4.0 comes very close to the feature set of the X-E3 sans the touch screen. The 4.0 release was so extensive they even rewrote the user manual (also down loadable). Same with software upgrades for their lenses. Down loads are free!
Hi Ted, just came across this review last night. Really nice review and I fully agree with your assessments. Welcome to the Fuji X system. I'm confident you find it as fun and fulfilling as many of us do. Regarding the 16mm....you may also want to consider picking up the 14mm f/2.8 some time. It was designed by the same optical engineer that designed the 16mm f/1.4 and the 23mm f/1.4, and it is optically really superb; exemplary. One of the finest lenses I've ever used, with virtually no geometric distortion. I've found it to be quite versatile (like you, I tend to shoot wide with my Fujis) and with respect to your smaller X-E3, it's considerably more compact and lighter than the 16mm f/1.4 Regards, Stephen Scharf
Right on Ted. Shot three generations of the X-E cameras for years. Love their feel. Image quality is great straight out off the card, and Fuji keeps making them better.
I have the X-E1 and X-T1. I love them both. Fuji is doing some amazing stuff right now. I don't own any Fuji lenses - I just use old, adapted lenses, so I can't comment on autofocus, but I'm fine with manual focus.
I have Pentax and Nikon FF (with a suite of lenses for each) and they are great, but after walking 15 miles in Tokyo summer heat, I went and got myself an X-E3. With a light lens, I've got myself a really good imaging package, decent 4K Video and less wear and tear on my back. I love my X-E3!
Ordered mine on the 1st of Feb :). I'm so happy to see you making a video about it since so few videos and reviews exist on it. I'm excited to make my next art exhibit based around this camera.
Ted, I already owned two X-T2 bodies and an X-Pro 2 when this camera was released. I bought the package in which I got the Fujicron 23mm at a very nice price. My original thought was that I would sell off the body and keep the lens. I found that I was carrying this kit around all day, every day, even when I had no assignments, because it was SO MUCH FUN. I shoot sports for the local college among other things (I do not make my living taking pictures), yet I will sell off my "spare" X-T2 body in order to keep the X-E3. Yes, it is not a "pro" camera, but..... FWIW, it does not handle the very large and heavy Fuji lenses too well, but that is it's only drawback for me.
You can have cheap grips from Amazon and Ebay also. Not same Fuji quality but price is about 20-25% from Fuji's oringinal. Almost year with Fuji X-T2 and I really love it. With 27mm pancake lens, it's a quite compact but still have nice performance.
First, I have been watching your channel for a long time and wanted to congratulate you for your very good work. I have some thing to say over your comments on the handgrip/plate for the camera : there is a technical reason for the tripod soquet in cameras for not being centered with the lens, simply there is no space in most big sensor compact camera to put it there. The soquet have to be strong to secure the camera that implies a certain size of the assembly for the screw. Years ago when the sensors where small it was easy to put the tripod screw aligned. But in a camera of that type to put the screw under there you would need to make the camera bigger ; that is just to put the optional plate/grip permanently integrated to the camera. In my view is better to have it as an option just for the person that wants to, when they wanted it. Sorry for my bad English. Congratulations on your work in the channel, specially on classic and not so well known photographers and their works.
Nice review of the features of the X-E3, Ted! When I got the X-Pro2, neither the X-E3 nor the XT-2 was released, and I wanted the extra resolution and new processing engine, hence I jumped on the X-Pro2. Since I print quite large (24x36" poster prints), and as I shoot 100% stills (landscapes and products), I am likewise anxiously awaiting the XT-3's alleged new sensor and engine! The X-Pro2 however, has proven to be extremely robust and reliable, even though I too, rarely take aadvantage of the hybrid EVF/OVF features. As for the upcoming hybrid XH-1, I think mostly video shooters should love that one! I also agree with your statement that Fujinon lenses are outstanding! In my 35+ years in photography, the Fujifilm X-System I find needs the least post-processing; the image sharpness, dynamic range and tonality are simply that good OOC!
Yes I got one today from adorama. A 9 out of 10. $429. I figure I'll get an off brand metalic pancake 27mm or 28 mm. Il keep my ey out for lenses but this makes it like a poor man's x100 with good video.
@@uncatila Lenses are more important for me than the bodies. I'm using an X-T1 right now, not worrying so much about the latest bodies, and life has never been so enjoyable xD
@Alessio Di Summa X-E3 over any other X-E model any time. The X-E3 is the first one with the newer 24mp sensor similar to the one in the X-E2. All the previous models use the older 16MP sensor from the X-T1. Plus X-E3 is the first E model that shoots decent video. Difference between X-E2 and X-E2S was only addition of bluetooth and some small changes. X-E3 can be found new for 500 EUR these days. Keep that in mind if you're looking at second hand. edit: Note that my original comment is 2 years old. About 1 year ago I bought an X-E3 new on amazon for 500 EUR body only. I had X-E1 and X-E2S in the past but those are sold now.
It's not just X-Trans sensor tech. It's new tech. I switched from Canon back to Olympus at the end of 2016 and my OM-D E-M1 blows away the older Canon in pretty much every way. The landscape images I get from the Olympus are amazing! DR, clarity, sharpness, colour, it is all better! The touch screen is so convenient, and having an articulated screen, as opposed to a fixed screen is so much better that one wonders why all cameras don't employ that facility. Then there are the lenses. I don't have a single M.Zuiko lens that feels anything less than stellar. What's really cool is that I get all that, and more, from a smaller sensor and a much more compact and lightweight system. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that sensor size is an issue that doesn't need to be. You discovered this with the Fuji APS-C and I discovered it with the Olympus Micro Four-Thirds. So much is dependent on system design, lens quality, electronics, etc, that as the whole system continues to improve, the day will come where a cell phone sized camera will be able to produce quality that is virtually indistinguishable from, or better than, a "full-frame" sensor is now. People who say, physics precludes this sort of advance, are blowing hot air because they are not considering the fact that there is more than one way to achieve the sort of dynamic range and micro-contrast, and such, that people like to compare. One day, carrying big cameras will be looked at the same way we remember all those elderly tourists hauling around massive VHS video cameras in the days before compact digital tapes became more popular. As for how we do reviews, I think it would be so much more interesting to look at "image character" instead of so-called "image quality," whatever that is anyway. I know I have diverged from the topic but your video got me thinking about how we often emphasize the wrong things. Enjoyed your video as usual.
Well, Premiere have an option called "pixel depth", and sometimes dynamic range is referred as "depth", so I guess he was referring to how much the pixel can accumulate light to create the colors, and people tend to used cups of water as an analogy to that.
Greetings, Ted! Nice intro to the X-E3. As a Fujifilm X-T3 landscape and product photographer, I am extremely pleased with the image quality I get from this camera, combined with the stellar, sharp Fujinon XF optics. However, I am researching a small, light "travel camera", as I don't want to expose my X-T3 system to the vagaries of landscape photography in a beach/ocean setting. Now, if this X-E3 was "weather-sealed" like my XF23 f/2, I might have considered it, but I was considering such cameras as the Canon G1X Mark III, Panasonic Lumix LX100 II, or Sony RX100V. My MAIN criteria are image SHARPNESS and detail retention, and ability to retain such detail when possibly printed to 20x24". Plus, I'd like to keep total budget to around $700 - $900. And, FYI, I'm a 100% stills guy, so don't shoot video. Based on this, which system would you recommend for maximum sharpness/compact form factor? Thank you
Great camera and my next purchase. Currently running an X-T1 and a XE-2S for all of my work. Love the size of the Fuji kit and the image quality is superb.
I love this camera but no weather sealing is a dealbreaker for me. My X100T has been repaired 3 times due to moisture and I'm afraid to buy another Fuji without weather seals.
Great review Ted. I've had Fujifilm cameras before and loved all of them. I actually own an Olympus but I’m considering going back to Fuji, so these Fujifilm reviews help a lot. Both Olympus and Fuji offer the best ergonomics for my taste since I like to have access to dial buttons for the shutter speeds and aperture functions. Wouldn’t even think of going to another manufacturer without those options. I can set my camera much more quickly than if I had to maneuver through a menu system (or use smaller buttons). We must beware when we talk about “Downsizing” mirrorless cameras because the downsizing must have no impact on the ergonomics. If its size forces a user to hold it an awkward manner then all the user experience is lost. And I totally agree with you Ted that one should not have to buy an extra grip to get the ergonomics back. It should all be built in from the start. I thought that I didn’t need a weathered proof camera but I was wrong. I found myself shooting at -40 degrees and partly damage mine. So I will invest on one next time. Correct me if I’m wrong (on a next video) but I would guess that using the electronic shutter over the mechanical one would limit the risk of accidents when shooting in very cold weather. Am I right?
Not quite sure why Leica (which I love) charge more for fewer features with similar picture quality, yet here is Fujifilm offering similar picture quality with fewer features and charging less! Makes so much sense. And this seems such a good camera for amateurs like me. The marketing and product positioning of cameras is so much more complex than the technicalities of photography today. Thanks for such a great video on what seems a fair priced camera...
Chose the XE-3 for the exact same reasons. Can you elaborate on the lenses you got with it and why? Also are you planning on getting any other FX-lenses? Cheers-D
There are two reason not to built a bigger grip in the camera: 1) you provide options for people who likes the slim grip and whoever need a bigger one can get an extra grip. 2) you provide an option for personal customize the camera by getting a wood grip or other third party accesory
Ted ... great video. Have been on the fence about buying this camera to replace an old Fuji X20 for street photography and I’m heading out to buy one. As always, thanks for your information and inspiration. Ciao
Been researching Fuji last 3 months. I have a Sony a6000 i bought used 4 yrs ago and i own 1 AF sony lens and rest are vintage m42 and minolta mounts. i like this x-e3 seen it used for $430 to 500 which is perfect and then save up for used 23mm f2 fuji lens. in mean time i get 2 adapters im in business.
Did you try the X-T20? I went with that in the end due to the small form factor as a travel everyday option that still delivers the same image quality. Very pleased with it.
Great video, Ted! You didn't mention that the screen is not tiltable though. Doesn't that bother you? I'm using it a lot on my camera for low shots. Can't imagine to buy one without a tilting screen anymore.
Very informative as always. I’m kind of in the same mindset with regard to spending more on the lenses and compromising (hardly) on the body. I bought the XT-20 instead of the XT-2. Like you it’s got the same sensor and MP and combined with the Fuji lens range you can’t tell the difference. I certainly don’t miss my Canon cameras anymore.
Would you recommend this camera for street photography in 2024 for a beginner/intermediate hobbyist? I saw a deal on a new one retailing for about $799.00 Canadian, or is there a better option for a camera for street photography that Sony sells around a similar price?
Waiting for XE4 here, no idea when it will be coming out and I'm guessing not this year, the XT30 is not different enough to justify upgrading my XT20 I think
STREET COFFEE 🇫🇷 I read somewhere that some film director, James Cameron I think 🤔 is using the x-t2 as the camera an actor uses in an upcoming film. Don’t quote me on that! Looking forward to xe4
instead of paying $130 for the original grip, you can purchase some 3rd party cheap grip or L-bracket for a fraction of that price (eBay, amazon, aliexpress). the quality is really good.
I am late to the party..... I just purchased an X-E3, used, as a supplement to my X-T2. I have been pining over the Leica Q, but with that out of my price range, I went with the Fuji. Paired with the 18mm f2, I get a similar focal length and similar tactile controls. Cheers to us all making images.
So i went to a demo day at my LCS from fuji. The Xpro 2 looks a lot smaller in all the TH-cam videos I have seen. It was ginormous compared to the rest of the line up
Huge Fuji fan from 2 years. Love my x-t2, but always preferred the smaller sizes of the x-e series, I might sell it and get the x-e3 :) I would really love to know what Fuji lenses you have. Maybe doing a specific video for it? My lenses setup is simple: - 16mm f1.4 (amazing quality, wish it was smaller) - 35mm f2 (always on, my fav lens ever) - 135mm f2 (amazing focal length, although BIG) Love your videos as usual! Keep it up!
Taddeo Zacchini Consider that larger lenses might feel unbalanced on a smaller camera, and you need a bigger grip to stabilise it. The X-E3 is styled on rangefinders, more suitable for small lenses for street shooting, but given it is an EVF, not an actual rangefinder, and has the same sensor and processor, you can still use larger lenses, you just don’t gain anything from what you have now. I have an XT20 with the 35mm/1.4 and the 18-55mm, and getting a 12mm. I love it for photowalks and for bringing with me on bike rides because of it’s size and weight, but then I wouldn’t consider a 135mm lens or other of the larger lenses for it; for that type of shooting with bigger heavier lenses, I stick with my Canon 80D. At that level, the size and weight is not in the body, it’s the lens, and you need a body suited for it. Different cameras are best suited to different situations. To find out, you could bring your 135mm to a store and try it out on the X-E3, along with any other heavy lenses for the store you are considering for the future. With the size comes various compromises, such as fewer controls, accidental presses of buttons because of little handholding room on the back, the SD card slot in the battery bay, and the off-centre bottom mount which means you can’t access either battery or SD card if using a bottom-mounted sling.
I'm loving my X-E3 so I am sure you will have fun with yours too, one great lens that you might like for it is the 10-24mm F4 the image quality is awesome, perfect for landscapes.
I recently got into photography but since I don't have a lot of money I decided to buy a Nikon D3400 with two Kit lenses. I've been shooting for a while and I'm pretty happy with the system because I'm able to pull out better images than I ever thought I could compared to the images that I had seen from other people using the same camera. It came down to understanding that the more you master composition, light, subject and Lightroom post-editing, the better your pictures are. However more more I'm interested in the Fuji system because of the x-trans sensor and colors rendered by the processor and quality of the lenses for an aps-c sensor. Expensive, perhaps not for what they offer, but expensive to me nevertheless. I've been looking at previous models used such as the x70 as I have very little means but really dig Fuji colours. I'm curious as to why Fuji's market share is not bigger considering the quality of pics they deliver. Sony, Nikon and Canon are pretty much always top 3.
I own the the EOS R which I love the picture quality, but I find myself enjoying the X-E3 more for fun. It's soooo great. Still learning, but I need to learn more about the filter system you guys are using.
I use Fuji X cameras since 2012 or so. I use Fujis for colors and for handling (and minor things like the gorgeous shotter noise), but I consider X-Trans as a bad marketing thing. In 1:1 comparisions with normal Bayer Pattern sensors, the Fujis are almost always less sharp. Almost no converter is able to render the image as clean as conventional sensors. I do not consider resolution as the most important thing, but I never understood the praise this X-Trans sensors get.
Intersting point. Thanks for sharing. This would be crucial for me as I prefer to shoot in Raw. The other day I watched a review of the Fuji A5 here on youtube (from cameralabs ? Not sure anymore), who compared picture quality from the cheaper A5 (usual Bayer snsor tech) vs a higher end Fuji with XTrans sensor. Result: hard to tell a difference in picture to picture comparison. ...unfortunately the A5 had other issues, like poor AF and generally very sluggish working speed, but that's another story.
Great video Ted I’ve had a number of Fuji cameras but staying with xpro1 xe1 the superb 18-55mm f2.8-4 27mm f2.8 and 35mm f1.4 - Yes the bodies are a little slow in focus but that’s all - files are superb - love Fuji
Hi Ted, Did you consider or try the XT-20 as a smaller option to the X-T2? The XT-20 specs are more or less the same as the X-E3, just a different form factor.
like ted said - this is whats great about fuji - they are providing cameras for needs not just making the same camera with shit disabled for cheaper with cheaper materials. I love my x-t20.
Main features missing on X-T20 vs X-E3 for now are, updated AF algorithm, 15 min vs 30 sec max exposure time in T mode, 9 frame vs 3 frame bracketing, more extensive use of touchscreen and Bluetooth. The AF improvements seem most useful when tracking small objects. In the X-T20’s favour are it’s articulating screen, more physical control dials (drive and d-pad) and built in flash. Absent a firmware update for the X-T20, the X-E3 is better specced, but form factor, size and the touchscreen implementation might play a bigger role than purely basing your decision on the specs. You’ll have to handle each to know.
Did you ever check Leica X2? Yes… It’s fixed lens design and a bit old. But it fit in normal jacked pocked (so essentially is always with me) and has simply amazing lens. It is really hard to believe what that small (and currently very cheap) camera can deliver.
Very intresting camera. Need some advices. As a newbie in camera world. Should i choose this camera instead other similar camera and what lenses do you use?
I sorta understand the lack of the grip, however I DO NOT understand the off center tripod mount. The most frustrating thing is you can't open the batter door. As for me, I got a eBay grip for el-cheapo (great quality) for mainly the batterydoor/tripod mount issue, and the portrait mode (L-bracket with grip).
Absolutely loved this review for many reasons...detail, spec' and presentation et al. Its all very good and puts some icing on the cake in terms of providing an objective nudge to make a purchase. However, your verbal pace is hard to keep up with. Phew... Be well and wondrous and keep up the excellent reviews but could you slooooooow down a bit please ?
Love my X-E3! Tried the new(er) X-E4 and found that it didn't offer any advantages that would be of use to me, and did away with the dials that I like.
Is it possible that Fuji took off the direct video shooting button, replaced it with Fn, and DIDN'T give the option to configure it to video recording?? Am I missing something? This doesn't make any sense to me..
I've noticed they use different wording, though they were said to have the same processors. The X-Pro2 has the "X-Processor Pro Engine", and the X-E3 has the "X-Processor Pro image processor". What difference do you suppose there might be, aside from country of origin?
So when shooting street, do you use a pancake lens? I am torn between this and the 100f, I currently have a d3300 that I use with a Nikon 35mm f1.8. I have a tamron 17-50mm 2.8 with it. I like the versatility and don't want to give up my IC lens camera, because I want to be able to do portraits and such later on of my daughter etc, but I love street photography mainly and the idea of the F with its leaf shutter and such makes me want it and use it in addition to the d3300, however, the xe3 would reduce my costs by quite a bit as I would be able to trade in the d3300. I have wanted to upgrade the d3300 for a while now thought because the lack of focus points and HSS capability.
Love the filterholder system. It is probably the best out there. I do not own it myself but have seen how it works. It is great! Personally I use round filters with Xume magnetic adapters at 77mm and use stepup rings to compesate for the various diameters. It is not the same of course as square filters when it comes to gradiant filters, but it works like a charm!
Thanks for your thoughts specially on the outstanding Fuji lenses. I am an X-T2 shooter and and really lucky with the lenses. What I like on the bigger models is the screen can also be flipped in portrait position. If you once got used to that, you’ll miss it if you don’t have it. What is this with the Deeper Pixels ®? Must have been missing this episode... PS: I’m sure you mean the X-T2 in the video description and not the X-T3 😉
I've fallen in LOVE with this camera. Thank you for the great video!
You can buy the X-E3 now 11/19 for $699. That’s amazing. When it came out last year it was like $1500 !
My X-E1 was $149. It works
Brilliant.
Great video! I just ordered an Xe3 and this video really helped me to understand a lot of the features. I love the ND filter explanation.
I love my Fuji X-Pro 2. Fuji is an outstanding company and i hope they keep doing great. They deserve it and earned it!
You are so right.... the X-E3 is just the best of all worlds. Small, smart but packed with power. Top dollar video. I love it.
I own an X-E2 since 2015 and it is one remarkable little camera, even nowadays. Fuji is doing one heck of a job.
I think this would be great for my photography. Good to keep in mind.
I'm loving the XE1 and picked it up in 2017 for only £150.
It's a lot of camera for such a bargain price.
I'll keep an eye on the XE2, and XE3 and hopefully try one soon.
Film Camera Reviews : Still got my XE1 converted to Ir with 720nm filter just a superb design
I have anXE-1 and an XPRO1...I can't see getting a camera with just the joystick and not the keypad...If I ever wanted to go up..it would be the XT-20
I have the XE-2 and I love it.
Jon Tait I'm not sure if I should upgrade to the XE2 or not...I think it's much quicker at reading and writing to SD cards than the old XE1
No..I would only upgrade to te XT20...An awesome camera.....
I'm agree with you.
The X - E serie cameras are awesome for street photography, small, easy to use and has the nearest looking as film , the advantage to have the viewfinder like rangefinder camera but viewing through the lens is so helpful, good performing in low light , equally sharp as D800 , even in high ISO, beautiful design, top and bottom sides are metal, very elegant , but nothing is perfect and now I will review my negative points:
The eyepiece is a bit small
Lacking of an central split -image rangefinder spot and micro prism grid , something that X-T series has
And the Focus Piking I wish more evident is difficult to see .
Apart of that great camera.
Fuji XE1
I like using the OVF on the X-Pro2 for awareness during street photography, the digital viewfinder for portraits and close up or macro shooting.
i’ve been very tempted to get into the fuji system, looked at the X-T1 when the price dropped but have definitely been considering this also so this was very useful to me
I believe I bought the first X-E3 in the Netherlands.
You have to set it up in the settings menu but its complete gold…
Is that T feature available on the X-T2 too?
Gerardo Fratini Yes!
How large are those prints
@@newyorkvisionary the big problem with the A7r II is the slow buffer speed and burst
On a whim I sold my Nikon system and bought the X-E3 for my trip to Japan. And I absolutely fell in love with the camera.
Hey Ted, are you still using the Fuji x-e3 on daily basis, a year later? ;)
Hey, I'm interested in that leather half-case, what's it called?
Great video Ted, I've been debating a Fuji camera for stills for a long time now and watching your videos just makes me want one more!
As an alternative to the X-T2 and XPro2 I also recommend taking a look at the X-T20. Really good camera and the same price range as the X-E3.
I just bought a second hand X-E2. Such a great value now that everyone wants the 24mp :-)
Thank you
This is freaking awesome, the time shutter mode, wow. Fuji is killing it.
So want to get my hands on one of these, I tried out the T2 and loved it!
Like xe3, because I like the Fuji colour and also xe3 size is very light and small. I carry xe3 with 23mm lens everyday.
A feature that I love is the Bluetooth geotagging à la Sony. The X-E3 is my next camera!
Fuji cameras are so fun to shoot with. Combine that with the excellent lenses and you are in for the win!
Great camera and my next purchase. Currently running an X-T1 and a XE-2S for all of my work. Love the size of the Fuji kit and the image quality is superb.
@Alessio Di Summa yes, it's my backup body and great carry around camera.
Am I right?
I didn't see what you shot this vlog with. Could you tell me? Camera, lighting & mic, please.
Cheers-D
Daniel Löffler
Go for vintage lenses like Nikon or Pentax Super Takumar , you wouldn't be disappointed.
Great video - pretty much the same reasons I got the X-E2 back when. Love the size, image quality and functionality.
I saw a deal on a new one retailing for about $799.00 Canadian, or is there a better option for a camera for street photography that Sony sells around a similar price?
still love and use it often even dough I got newer and more expensive Fuji bodies.
Love my x-t2, but always preferred the smaller sizes of the x-e series, I might sell it and get the x-e3 :)
I would really love to know what Fuji lenses you have. Maybe doing a specific video for it?
My lenses setup is simple:
- 16mm f1.4 (amazing quality, wish it was smaller)
- 35mm f2 (always on, my fav lens ever)
- 135mm f2 (amazing focal length, although BIG)
Love your videos as usual!
I‘m doing fine with the x-e3. Got almost all the premium lenses and 3e body is more than good. Thanks Ted.
I'm loving my X-E3 so I am sure you will have fun with yours too, one great lens that you might like for it is the 10-24mm F4 the image quality is awesome, perfect for landscapes.
Love this vid Ted. Owning an XE3 and that's absolutely not a regret.
I have xe1, xt1 and xe3.
I use xe3 with prime lens xf 23 f 2.0 xf 27 f 2,8- xf 35 f2.0 -
Xe1 and xt1 with vintage lens and xf 18-55 .
I own the the EOS R which I love the picture quality, but I find myself enjoying the X-E3 more for fun. It's soooo great. Still learning, but I need to learn more about the filter system you guys are using.
i never get tired of the deeper pixels
I’ve had the xpro1 when it came out and still use it. Haven’t felt the need to upgrade yet.
Still a great camera....
MrKikoboy Yeah love it. The 35 1.4 is my favourite, there’s something very special about that lens.
Mine is arriving today, excellent video. 👍🏼
Hi Ted,
Did you consider or try the XT-20 as a smaller option to the X-T2? The XT-20 specs are more or less the same as the X-E3, just a different form factor.
ToxIkWaste it's also got the articulating screen and d pad for controls
like ted said - this is whats great about fuji - they are providing cameras for needs not just making the same camera with shit disabled for cheaper with cheaper materials.
Why would you take a picture for a very long time? What are you getting from it? I'm very new to this.
would love to see the "electronic vs manual shutter" video!
Beakerzor im looking forward for that too.
huh i wouldnt!
john not even if it was backward-hat Ted that did it?
Beakerzor lmao never thought of that! Gotta run my chilis done
Beakerzor i like the way you chili!!
How would you compare this to the xt30? Over practicality and performance
Which is it keep seeing 24mp and 24.3? Please someone tell me officially what is the correct mp on this camera thank you.
Hey Ted. What lens do you have on your xe3?
Re: the ability to see the exposure with ND filters -- the Xpro2 does that too, so it's good to keep that for Fuji's whole line.
Got my shirt yesterday. Unboxed and hoping to make a vid of it...I may have to get a deeper pixel one now!
Thanks, Ted! :)
You need to do a Fuji x-e4 review and let us know if you would recommend someone getting it or go with an x-e3 instead.
Fujifilm makes awesome cameras. My only digital camera is an xt20 and I love it.
If you want to make full use of the pixels, don't you have to go for the 56mm/1.2?
