Yep, my best friend and I have a saying which precedes any roasting... "Only a true friend would be this honest". Most of the time it's a truth that needs to be said. I love the following quote from Dr Thomas Sowell - “When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear.”
Men and women bond in very different ways. Males bond by doing things together, accomplishing tasks, playing as a team. Women bond by talking with each other, sharing their knowledge and especially their feelings with each other. That's why any time you hear someone say about their spouse "He/She's my best friend" it's a big red flag. It means they don't know how to bond with members of their own gender. Men roasting each other in jest is part of the bonding process. Women fake-complimenting each other is how they claim territory and put each other down.
Women post pictures of themselves on Facebook and the like looking (hoping) for affirmation. men don't do that. And sadly the women get affirmation no matter how terrible they look. The responses are always "you look great" even when they don't.
@jethro1963 There are men that post pictures of themselves looking for affirmation. Also you don't seem to understand that from a young age women are taught that being pretty is very important.
Very valid that even during the 80’s your local community had their biases and preferences but overall everyone was closer to a unified society. Insulting others was done out of friendly jokes, bonding rituals and normally acknowledged as like a right of passage which interchanged as a badge of honor. It definitely wasn’t catered around nurturing the feelings of teenagers and adults; but was about growth and acceptance.
The Feminine world is VERY different...now ALL of Society is being told to live in THAT World. Gee, what could go wrong with that...?? - As we're now all finding out...
Ya man, my high school and neighborhood is pretty much 1/3 black, 1/3 Latino, and 1/3 white so we just chill with everyone. It's not a big deal and we give each other crap and laugh.

That’s such a poignant observation by Zuby. I knew it was happening, they’re trying to feminize society, but I never thought about it in the light he just brought up. Me and my friends destroy each other, but within our circle the harder we go at each other, that’s how you know who’s the closest. It’s a badge of familial bond. Great conversation.
It's genius. They play oppressed victim so we have to feel sorry for them and give them everything they demand and live in their world, but they don't even know what they really want so now we all have to live in crazy confused mixed messages and double standards world.
Zuby was totally on the mark with everything he said. I hope he campaigns to get his message out there and keeps doing it because it really resonates. I hope it doesn't get glossed over about what he said about trust. For someone you know to "insult" you takes trust from both sides. Also the "feminizing" of society is very true. I hope this conversation doesn't get lost. It's HUGE!
I married the most wonderful man, and through him I learned about the ways of men. Women would never call each other a "cow" and laugh it off. Men, however, say horrible things to each other. That is part of male intimacy. If your friend didn't insult you, you'd think he didn't love you. Fortunately, my husband taught our son how to be a man, live in this world and laugh it off.
The jokes between men are a form of bonding, generating trust and testing boundaries without recourse to violence. In addition they are a way confronting the immutable differences between us and rendering them absurd.
I was brought up during a time when swearing in front of women could land you in a fight, but if you were just hanging out with the guys nothing was off limits. It was frowned upon if a woman swore.
In regards to women, there are those of us who because of our personal interests (e.g. for close to 30 years I was a crate-digger, and remain an avid movie lover/collector etc.) we end up having a really good friendly, platonic rapport with men because it's majority guys who ran the record stores, record fairs, who are out digging for sounds/samples, who run the film distribution companies, run film festivals, who write fanzines etc. 99% of them are fantastic dudes who enjoy meeting women who are genuinely and actively interested in the topic at hand and who they can talk music, movies, history, politics etc. A really old friend of mine (over 25+ years) enjoys my demented sense of humor but his ex-girlfriend? She found it very offensive, lol. Women fall across the spectrum of social interactions but I will say women whose interests and conversations tend to only relate to other women, boyfriends/girlfriends, make-up, fashion and not much else cannot relate to men and women being platonic friends because they themselves tend to have little in common with the average guy. It is these types of women who do not "get" how men relate to one another/their friends for the most part but some do especially if they become "boy moms" (as I also am). Just my personal opinion on the matter :)
I have three older brothers. Watched them banter with one another and with all their friends. To be included, I had to do the same. You can imagine how this goes over for me making friends with women 😂. I hurt a lot of feelings. The women I hold dear to me, are just like me and most have brothers.
In my small town and then in the Catholic high school in the city of Peoria, race was never mentioned, just as, ironically, religion was never mentioned, nor politics. The prime directive was to love black people and help the poor, who lived mainly in big cities. "See Muhammed Ali? He's a great American." Being so-called white is no privilege when nearly everyone else is, too. (Artist and athlete Martin P., we look for you.) I wasn't the favorite girl in a house with only two. haha. But we wanted to help the poor, and black people, you know, just help those needing it. Eventually, I became a teacher in 'underserved' schools and those students were hungry for learning and guidance and fun. During No Child Left Behind, the district knowingly left the students who struggled the most behind. I'm the only one who objected, to my knowledge. The decision makers had a screw loose, including in the union. What do they do? The watchers need watching. Furthermore, my middle school did the worst thing possible to students who broke the rules; they suspended them for days without notifying their parents, in at least certain cases I know about. The worst thing for those students was to be out of the classroom and unsupervised. By worst I mean delinquency, gangs, lives cut short. The administrators had such awful personalities that they antagonized the students and made teachers keep to themselves. They took the stick approach. The carrot approach works much better. Half of our schools need this vegetable.

Ruthlessly jibing each other’s differences was a strong means of bonding in the Royal Marines. We were all members of a tribe and knew on some level those things mattered least.
In ‘ The Madness of Crowds’ Douglas Murray points to the fact that at the very point where a ‘cause’ is pretty much sorted. Agitators / activists feel compelled to tip over the table in order to reestablish the grievance. For eg. Stonewall achieves gay marriage but can’t leave it there, so we then get the ‘trans movement’. Same thing with race. You were managing racial difference at school quite healthily it sounds, then they tip the cart !
The goal of the Left is to create chaos. They want chaos so they can incessantly shriek "You see, capitalism isn't working". Their sole goal is to usher in their Marxist "utopia". Everything they do - defund the police, open borders, protecting homeless camps, soft on crime, BLM riots, "Palestinian" protests and on and on - the Left are motivated by hate, they hate White people and they hate the rich. Chaos is the tactic to bring it all down.

The boys I teach at my boys only school do take the Mickey out off each other but it's not not as ruthless as Zuby and Matt suggest. Nothing to do with wokeness but it's not about causing injury. Just like in sports, they have fierce clashes but there's limits. This doesn't mean that they never go too far, of course they do, but in the overwhelming majority of cases there's a remarkable amount of sensitivity.
