To be fair, apparently Jurassic Park the book was based on a script from the 70s Crichton shopped around, but couldn't get anyone interested in it, so he turned it into a novel (and it kinda shows).

One admirable thing about this movie is how it gets progressively more and more hopeless as it goes on. The constant text pop-ups tell you how much the infection is spreading, with the town completely unaware, especially as they interact with one another. Then the government comes in and kills them all, decides it's not worth it to try and cure a disease that will wipe out humanity in less than a year (they'll try test-tube babies instead), and to kick the dog, kill the main characters and accidentally destroy the anti-virus! It's pretty unrelentingly bleak; sadly the cheap dinos are the thing bringing this movie down!

In the early 90s everyone was into dinosaurs, so they had this out front. I remember my parents walking into the room as we were watching the scene with the chained up hippies getting devoured, and my mom bitching at my dad “what the hell did you let them rent?!?!” Haha, considering I was about 5 or 6 and my brother was around 7 or 8... ahh the 90s

In the script, a baby Pterodactyl was
to be seen at the end after "Doc" Smith
& Ann "Thrush" were killed & fried
by hazmat soldiers. A puppet was built,
but like the unused baby Triceratops
that they built for *"JURASSIC PARK"*
    - though it did get to do a cameo in
*"THE LOST WORLD: Jurassic Park"* -
the Pterodactyl didn't get to be used in

_Velociraptor m._ and _Deinonychus a._ are *both* members of the family Dromaeosauridae.

Diane Ladd starred in the film "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" which was adapted into the sitcom "Alice". She joined the sitcoms cast in the 80's and played a waitress who wanted to make it as a country singer. She had a bizarrely insane song she'd sing called "Uncle Bob" about her uncle and his farm that had a line about chickens. 🎶 _Uncle Bob's got chickens that ain't never been plucked! Oo-ah!_ 🎶 I think Ladd may have been having all kinds of fun with this movie.

When they did that backwards end credits thing in "The Dreamers", it weirded me out there too.
I could have sworn "Carnosaur" went direct to video as well. I don't remember seeing any TV spots for it, but there it was in a videostore one day, like it belonged there or something.
And I could swear that shot of the dinosaur crowing is taken from... maybe "Caveman"? And I think that Tyrannosaurus prop was used again in Wynorski's "Dinosaur Island."

This movie scared the shit out of me as a child, and Looking back on it I've come to like this film a lot..
-The dark atmosphere and the way it sets up the scenes is nice
-The sound design in general is pretty good.
-The sounds they made for the dinosaurs in particular are still grade-A pants shitting material to me
-The effects are very well done and have barley aged (IMO) sure some of them look VEEEERY cheap, but i'll take cheap practicals over CG any day..

    • @ChrissieBear
      @ChrissieBear 6 ปีที่แล้ว

John Hammond does call it Mongoliensis, but then Dr. Grant asks, in confusion, why he's calling it that, to which Hammond's says that it's because the amber came from Mongolia, prompting Dr. Grant to say that his "Mongoliensis" raptors look like the Velociraptor Antirrhopus he had just excavated in Montana.
Then Dr. Grant asks Tim what he knows about velociraptor, to which Tim responds that it was a small pack hunter, like a deinonychus but smaller. After this Dr. Grant brings up that deinonychus is now (at the time of the events of the book) actually considered a type of velociraptor.

  • @LinkMarioSamus

So I have three things to say here. First of all, just FYI, Velociraptor and T. Rex were not carnosaurs. Second, in addition to Laura Dern's mom, Clint Howard is Bryce Dallas Howard's uncle, so there's another Jurassic Park relation for you. Third, imagine this movie on MST3K and the crew mocking Gene Siskel's thumbs up for the film. Just a list of notable movies Siskel gave thumbs down to: The Terminator, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Aliens, Evil Dead 2, Predator, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Lethal Weapon 2, Total Recall, The Silence of the Lambs, Thelma & Louise, Point Break, Unforgiven, True Romance, Carlito's Way, The Crow, True Lies, Goldeneye, Casino, The Rock, Scream, The Big Lebowki, The Mask on Zorro.
