- My Lavender Orpington chicks are having problems with pasty butt. Now that I've got them cleaned up a bit I will be keeping a close eye on them. I also fed my chicks some wax worms and meal worms. They're little savages!
Thanks for all of the comments on the previous videos. I've read them all and it's been really helpful. I actually filmed a part for this video where I read through and responded to some comments, but I ran out of time to finish editing it. I'll try again tomorrow. I just had to explain to my wife that I’m watching a reloading channel. The chirping brought this to her attention. She instructed me not to spend any money 🤣🤣🤣
I had to explain to mine that, yes though I’m watching an elite tactical warfighter wipe baby chicks butts, this is in fact a reloading/hunting/fishing and outdoors channel.

A lot of times pasty butt is from lack of water. Or too much heat. But, sometimes you never figure out what caused it. Grit will help with the pasty butt, too.
You can stand the water up on a block of 2x4 to keep it cleaner. At the height of their backs is what I’ve always heard. Also, when they have to stand up straight to drink it basically omits the drowning risk. So you can take the rocks out of the tray.
Looks like their doing awesome hammer those meal warms.

Grit sticks in their gizzards and is used to crush seeds in their food.
We had some chicks a while back . For the crusty butt problem we put a shallow dish of water in there with them . As they walked through the water the poo would drop off .

Sprinkle a little of the grit in each one of the feeder holes (a little).
The little chirps are surprisingly relaxing...

You might want to keep extra heat lamp bulbs on hand. When they get older it’s not so much of a problem but pullets don’t like to get cool, in my experience. It always seems to happen to me, a cool spell will come through at night during the summer just as my bulb blew.
Broader chick heat plate solved that issue plus no fire hazard its $54 on amazone but 5 yrs still great so paid for it self already
